  1. I've walked by this place sooo many times. The moment I walked in, all I could think was how many delicious meals I have missed out on… My friend and I decided on this place for lunch, best decision of the day! The moment we walked in, there was a bit of confusion as to which way the line went, but once we figured it out, it moved quickly while friendly. We ended up ordering the same thing, pernil, moro rice and maduros, yum!

There wasn't any part of my meal that was off. The pernil was good, not dry at all like how certain places make it. Juices from pernil over the moro rice, great! I'm very picky with maduros and this place was good, not too sweet, browned just right. All the flavors and textures worked perfectly together! Although this place doesn't look like anything special, but they definitely serve some great food. I'd highly recommend this place and will most definitely e back!

  2. Delicious cuban food. The sitting area was freezing cold, no heat, so I'd recommend a take out.

  3. This was the 4th Sophie's that I have been to so far. There had no line for taking out during a Friday lunch time. The lady who served me food was little mean. She rushed me, when no one was behind the line. The baked chicken and sweet plantains were good as usual.

  4. i used to work around here and since i do not anymore, i always get my sophie's cravings once in awhile. sophie's is great because they are quick and good. you can get in and out of their in a few minutes and enjoy your delicious meal. the portions are huge so i always had left overs for another good lunch or for dinner. yum. when you walk in it could be little chaotic, especially at lunch time but don't get lost! there is a line for take out, and in the back there is table service.

okay as for food. every day they have specials that range from beef, chicken, fish. all their dishes are delicious. i honestly never had a dish that i didn't think was amazing. also their rice (get the yellow) is so good and their sides are also amazing. their beans and plantains all good. best part about sophie's is their crack green sauce. put that crack on everything.  sophie's also has sandwiches, which i honestly never really got but i heard they are good.

  5. I went here expecting to find the old Puerto Rican spot that used to be here when I lived in NYC.

Of course it wasn't. I decided to try here because why not? I like cuban too!

The food was pretty good but my chicken was a little dry. The flavors were not poppin, like a muted version of Cuban.

I'd try it again but I wasn't impressed.

  6. I had walked by this place for many years not  knowing what they sell. Since I was sick of all the food nearby I decide to try something new. I walked in around 2 to find the place mostly empty. Most of their food were almost half gone.
My first impression was the aroma . it smelled wonderful like it's a home kitchen filled with home cooking . I got a tamale with a beef and chicken empanadas . The meal was absolutely juicy and full of stuffing. I was recommended to try the soup which was also pretty good. Staff was quick and helpful. Highly recommend for lunch especially with price range.

  7. It's your cafeteria style cuban style restaurant. Basic seats and tables in the back but it's definitely a place to pick out your order cafeteria style and have it be taken out. Fresh and tasty ingredients and every meal i've had here were good. Everyday has a special dish. I particularly like Wednesdays with their oxtail stew. Nice sauce with olives and plenty of tender oxtail meat. I would also go for their lechon. Pork over yellow rice with black beans and onion. Great tasty tender dish. Make sure you go for extra green sauce at the register. It's like crack and has a spicey kick that goes well with your pork. Also wonderful side orders of sweet plantains or fried plantains. Great mango shakes as well. All were made wonderfully.

  8. Cheap, warm, filling, comfort food. Served fast and quick cafeteria style. Been here for lunch a few times. It's either simple no-frills seating in the back or take out. I like their rice and beans, beef stew, oxtail stew, and empanadas. Also, try the green sauce, it's really addicting and makes everything taste better. Every seems to have a rustic, made at home feel to it. They also have daily specials.
