Sorrento Bakery
“My favorite, which they only have on occasion, is a chocolate "cup" filled with chocolate mousse, sitting on top of red velvet cake, all with fresh raspberries on top (see pic).”
“Cold Cuts are always fresh and abundant.”
“And I had to try a mini cannoli – cannoli shell was crisp and fresh and the cannoli cream was not too sweet.”

This small bakery is super authentic Italian. I can only speak for the pastries, cookies, & cakes … but what else do you need? (Actually they have a deli counter & a small shop of Italian foods, so you might need that.)
We bought a fruit tart & some pastries to bring to a family party, & it was a HIT. Check the picture, because that fruit tart was almost too pretty to eat. Almost. The fresh fruits & delicious custard … even the crust was unbelievable!
The parking lot is small & confusing. We missed the entrance, due to a misleading ONE WAY sign that was inexplicably facing the wrong way. We were one of three cars that had to pull a U-turn on the adjacent street just to get back into the lot. I'm sure it happens on a regular basis.
** Pull into the entrance that looks most obvious. The one way sign is facing the wrong way, & only applies if you need the additional parking that wraps around the building. **
Their bread…oh their bread…is ridiculous!
Their pastries are good but not the best.
Their staff could use a little more personality.
It gets disorganized during busy times.
Parking isn't very good.
I would only go here for their bread. Capice?
If you like your cookies, bread and canolis to be awesome, than you have to stop and in and get some. This is THE measuring stick for Italian and French bread. Like Kleenex defines tissues this place defines bread. You can keep your Calandras and the like, they pale in comparison to Sorrento's.
Unfortunately, service has never been their forte. Sometimes I get lucky and the sales person is friendly, but for the most part, the staff is too busy to worry about kissing your ass. When you have a canoli as fresh and tasty as this place has to offer, you can ignore the lack of cheer behind the counter. If you are in the market for a big cookie, you have to get a "Chinese cookie", there is no place else in the US that tops theirs. Their big chocolate chip cookie, I know of no better one around.
I have tried their cakes hoping they would be as good as the other stuff I mentioned, but I have been repeatedly disappointed. I could say it was just bad luck, but I have had them enough times to know not to buy them again. The three or four items I mentioned are good enough for me to LOVE this place.
Oh yeah, they do serve lunch here too. You'll have to ask someone else about that.
Sorrento's is the type of bakery that has what you need to supply your own party or bring to another party. Cookies, cakes, cupcakes, mini desserts, and a deli filled refrigerated displays greet you as you walk in. The service is quick and they keep the line moving. The cupcakes are delicious with frosting that tastes homemade. The mini desserts are also delicious, and so are the cakes I have ordered so far (Hazelnut in one and mocha in another). I would recommend this bakery to those looking to satisfy their own sweet tooth or those needing to bring a dessert to an occasion.
We actually finished dinner early enough to make it here just before their closing time. There were still about 5 servers and we were the only customers. There are a lot of selections and I felt rushed – reading some of the other reviews I guess this is the kind of place where you should know what you want before going here.
They specialize in Italian pastries and I was quite impressed by the available selection. From eclairs, tiramisu, creme brûlée, lobster tail, and the chocolate mousse and red velvet inside this chocolate dome. I saw some cakes too so next time I need to order a cake I know where to go. There is a event banquet place next door so I wonder if they supply the dessert for their events. They certainly look like those dessert I see in weddings.
They do have room for seating area and I think that would be really nice to open one so we can come in and enjoy our dessert with cappuccino there. And they have 5 servers to definitely be able to support that. Maybe one day…
Normally when you have a nice small town and only 1 bakery the bakery itself will be lackadaisical in its approach and not deliver figuring they have a monopoly anyway. NOT Sorrento, which as been here since I lived here and has to be now over 40 years old. Expanded in size now with your Bread side, bakery side, sub and cold cut side and coffee bar side it has also exceeded my expectations for a very long time.
I'll keep it simple.
French breads and Rolls are outstanding only 2nd to Calandra's which to me are the Gold Standard of breads.
Panalle breads are good but don't get the over the top wow factor.
Cakes are always solid though on the expensive side.
Cookies, pastries, etc are varied, with a great selection and always excellent without ever a complaint.
Subs – you can have them on Sub rolls which make them good but have them on a french bread loaf for a few dollars more and you have really hit the Mother Lodge of Subs. My only gripe is they use "RED ONIONs" on subs 🙁 and rarely unless you ask do they put enough Oil or Vinegar its always on the dry side. Cold Cuts are always fresh and abundant.
Ordering ahead for subs always easy and suggested.
All and all a very solid bakery in a Town that requires them to deliver every time out of the box.
From the cakes to the breads to the donuts, everything in the bakery looks phenomenal and it's easy to see why they're always busy. It gets a bit disorganized as a result and I've seen orders get mixed up from time to time. Great selection and prices are not too bad. Unfortunately I usually get the salad as it's one of the few "healthy" meal choices and they are not great, but don't come here for the salads anyway. Although I don't drink coffee, everyone who gets it raves about it as well
