*Warning the Manager Gary is very insensitive to handicapped patrons. When a customer didn't want to have their car parked by the valet (having had items missing before) the valet said that they would have to park in the beach parking lot- yes even when there were a bunch of handicapped spots EMPTY. (And had we come 5 minutes earlier the Valet wouldn't have even been there since we arrived at 11am, and he was just setting up) Yes- a Handicapped Tag holder. When the patron called inside- the person who answered the phone was very pleasant, and said she would connect to the Mgr. gary. Well, he proceeded to explain that for insurance purposes- incase you hit someone in the parking lot- the Valet must park the car. So let me get this straight- If they get into an accident in the parking lot with my car its ok? After he was very nasty- and he was told that 311 was going to be called since he wasn't allowing patrons to utilize the Handicapped spots, who had Handicapped Tags. He said he would let the Valet know it was ok. Needless to say- we did't park there, scared that something would be done to the car. The food was just ok. No coffee made at 11:25am? The waiter was very sweet and on point, although it took forever for our drinks. Had the group we were with not already there- we would have left. The Brunch was ok. $30.00PP- great selection. (That includes coffee and 1 drink) The serving station attendants were polite.
Valet and great service and experience overall. I had the grilled calamari- included some fried tomatoes and jalapeno which I thought was a great twist. The portion was also huge. Friends and I, sitting outside enjoying the nice breeze, shared a Luther of sangria which was just sweet enough and decently strong- I couldn't complain. I had the salmon dish for an entree and it was really awesome- flavorful, crispy outside, crabmeat filling- yum.
The ambience was good, the prices are $$$, service was **, and food was definitely worth the trip.
I didn't get food poisoning here.
That's good enough for me.
I had really low expectations for this S.I. joint; I'm glad they slightly surpassed it.
Lychee martini was uber sweet. I wouldn't get it again. Food was mediocre.
The only good thing is they have outdoor seating right on top of the beach. Yay.
Exceptional, exquisite, and outstanding! Professional warm friendly staff, modern clean and comfortable atmosphere at a great location of Staten Island near the Verrazano bridge. Our server had charm, took pride in himself and provided timeless courteous manners paying attention to the small details. The food was superb, freshly prepared using best ingredients and everything I tried today was smooth tasting, complex, and delicious. Portions were plenty and 'rich' I was full at the end of meal and satisfied.
I have to agree with the reviews from this past summer, I had visited a few times this summer and each time the food was really nothing to write home about, and especially not something worth paying $28 an entree for.
However, my husband and I went for dinner tonight (attempting to follow Lenten rules and all) and I was really pleasantly surprised.
We went for dinner at 9 on a Friday and the place was pretty much empty. We were able to sit near the window and had a view if the Verrazano and the beach. We were given a delicious amuse bouche of a twice baked potato (never got one of those before at South Fin).
The beet salad was served with a flame roasted piece of goat cheese that was like crime brûlée on top of cheese (which is like two totally awesome things)
The blackened swordfish with sweet potato hash was delicious.
I had the green tea martini, which was like Limey whiskey, but I guess that's what I get for stepping too far outside the box.
The service was friendly and attentive and our water was never empty.
Overall, I think they're making an attempt to regain business after Sandy and they're doing an excellent job of it.
Swordfish with the sweet potatoe hash was awesome. The Tommy Mojito was tasty. Good service and great location! Our server did a nice job with our large group.
This is such a beautiful location, I just wish the service could be improved!
We walked in and asked to be seated outside, and were told that there was a private party happening and they didnt have any seats available. Throughout the rest of our meal, we saw at least two parties seated outdoors which were clearly not part of any kind of party.
We ordered drinks while we skimmed the slightly overpriced options. It took a little time for the drinks to arrive, but not unreasonably long. They were GOOD. No cheaping out on the booze.
I ordered the miso salmon, so did my husband, and my son had the rigatoni. A minute or so later we noticed other tables getting hot biscuits soon after sitting…we did not get any at all and had to actually request it. Twice. My son was not offered cheese or pepper for his pasta, we had to request that also.
The food was pretty good, but really a little under-seasoned and a little overpriced. But definitely fresh.
Then a man who seemed to be the owner loudly teased a waiter uncomfortably close to our table, which isnt a huge problem, unless, like this restaurant you are attempting to give the illusion of a higher class establishment.
I might come back, or not.
3.5-4.0 stars
I had my bridal shower here. The food presentation and food was amazing. The service was good too. We had red and white sangria, mozzarella and tomato caprese appetizer, and I chose the salmon for my entree which really good. We had fondue for dessert.
I came back 2 months later and the food and service was mediocre. We ordered some similar food and some new food, and it was all mediocre.
