Souvlaki Greek Kitchen
“Dare I say second best Greek in Bayside to Avli?”
“I can see myself dining in and taking out as often as I want Greek food, which is probably once a week.”
“The individual pita sandwiches may be a tiny bit smaller than some other places but they are priced much cheaper and are top notch in quality.”

I was excited to see that a Greek place was opening up on the block. While on my lunch with a co-worker we were walking to get our usual pizza or bagel and realized that Souvla was open. We went in and were pleasantly surprised, They did a great job of decorating–I love all of the vibrant colored furniture and that you can see all behind the counter. I got the chicken gyro with brown rice and fries (I know, two carbs–eek!)
The chicken was deliciously seasoned as were the rice and fries. The pita is different from other places but I like that they cut it into pieces for you. The tzatziki is also very good compared to other places in the area.
Another time I also got the beef gyro which I also loved. I was however disappointed that it did not come with tzatziki sauce for some reason.
One thing I do wish they had was more vegetable options–maybe some roasted broccoli or something of that kind as a choice for a side.
Wow, I had to really sit and think about whether this place was going to replace Avli as my go-to greek place while I took bites out of my combo platter earlier today. My wife and I ordered the combo platter (lamb/gyro, chicken souvlaki, salad, and greek fries) for about $15 which was a pretty good deal.
Their menu is currently in flux, they're changing some of the prices and the wraps so I'm excited to see what they're gonna have to offer when they're finished. Last time I came, we had the steak and chicken gyro's which were on point!
Don't forget to try their different kinds of sauces (aside from the tzatziki); their spicy feta sauce was an interesting addition to my wrap.
Only reason why I am really bothered and can't give the full five stars is:
How do you operate a sit-in restaurant and not have a bathroom where customers can wash their hands?
Today I decided to spend a day around my neighborhood B A Y S I D E #represent. I stopped here after my yelper amiga Lorraine D's review. Its a clean and spacious restaurant with tables along the wall and front of the house. Very emptied on a Saturday afternoon with one couple by the time that I arrived. I ordered a Lamb/Beef on Pita because I love that kind of combination as I am such a carnivore. I asked the owner if I can take some pictures and he even opened the cases where the meats were rotating in…aww how nice =)
The Pita sandwich was stuffed with so much lamb/beef and french fries topped with slices of tomatoes and smothered in tzatziki sauce that's what I called a fulfilling and yummy sandwich.
I usually tend to pull apart the pita and eat the rest with a fork but today I decided to eat it as a whole oh boy it was so messy. Next time I am going to order to go hehe.
Very yummy spot so definitely give a try!
OMG, I was patiently awaiting this place to open. Already on this block you have my favorite butcher, Roberts and my favorite pizza, Luigi's, now to add to the list of must have and often crave, may I present, SOUVLA! This was my second day in a row. Best avgolemono soup. So far we have tried all gyros, beef, lamb, pork and chicken, all very tasty. The spanakopita was delicious and the prices are great. I look forward to sampling the rest. What else can I say, check it out.
