“Tiny, unassuming little joint adorned with little vintage toys and other knickknacks, serving fantastic dishes like the Spicy Tuna & Avocado Bowl which is MMM so delicious.”
“We also ordered several stalwarts of the Japanese restaurant menu – "Beef'n Potato" Niku Jaga, curry rice, and hijiki.”
“I love this place for what it is: plain, straightforward, and simple Japanese home cooking, just like how mama would make it.”

Got the curry with the additional croquet and that came out to $10.45 pre-tax. The curry was nothing spectacular with limited content and the croquette tasted store bought. While the place does have a homely vibe, I feel like the food doesn't live up to the "homely" sensation it markets itself as. Perhaps may be a nice place for a 3rd or 4th date, but other than that not much is going for this place.
This is a small mom and pop Japanese place. They serve different type of tofu dishes, hence the name soy. However, they do have a meat entree and a spicy tuna bowl.
I ordered the spicy tuna avocado bowl. Was a bit surprised at the small portion, but then the price was around $10 so it's not too bad for what it is.
Tuna and avocado was pretty good but definitely not the best tuna I've had. I liked that the rice was steaming hot when served.
When in doubt, the spicy tuna and avocado bowl will not let you down. The sesame pudding is also incredible. (Thanks to the chef for steering me to that instead of green tea ice cream.)
The restaurant is quaint, quiet, and quirky. Quintessential Japanese home cooking. See what I did there? Although I was the only diner at 6:30pm, it wasn't eerie or weird. It was a comfortable experience. Maybe not a destination restaurant, but a good choice if you're in the area and looking for a healthy yet tasty meal.
The portions were perfect for me but I have a small appetite, so I would order an appetizer if you're hungry. Don't forget the pudding (or cheesecake) at the end! Their in-house desserts are sure to be awesome.
I do agree with another reviewer that the place could use some sprucing. The bathroom was a little off-putting. That aside, I like Soy!
I have a go-to favorite (and since I found it, I haven't explored the rest of the menu, which is why I can't wholeheartedly give this place 5 stars, since I haven't explored the menu) is the spicy tuna bowl. Delicious and always reliable. Great place for a catch-up dinner with a good friend. Very tiny though, and the sparse seating is also tiny, literally.
This place is an instant classic. I will probably give it 5 stars ***** once I go back a few times.
This is original organic vegetarian food made in a mom and pop, really cozy shop.
The tofu steak is amazing and the portion is perfect to fit but not bloat you. I recommend the house specials with soup or rice if you're extra hungry (say, main dinner dish).
There's lots of interesting things on the menu so I'll definitely be back. They also have cookies and a drawing/coloring book :3
