I tried this place out for the first time and fell in love! I'm a huge wing enthusiast and usually travel to Croxley's Ale House for good wings (but there's usually a long wait and loud when there's a big game on). Spanky's was different, more intimate and relaxing atmosphere.
When we ate at Spanky's, we ordered the Spanky Wings and Buffalo Garlic Wings.. Both equally fresh and delicious! Our wait wasn't long and the owner and employee were both so friendly!
I'm so happy I found this place! I'll definitely be back to try the Garlic Parmesan Wings.
This little joint took over for awhile now the old pizzeria that was here.. My friend wanted to grab dunkin next year and asked if i ever tried it out before… When i told her no she said we need to..
When you walk in. They have a nice view of where they cook the wings. Has a cool industrial vibe. Some high top and low tables.
They have quite the extensive wing selection and get this the wings are NOT FROZEN!!
My friend has some dietary restriction to gluten. So before we ordered i told her she should inquire first which she did and so we decided to order. Once the wings were ready they gave us a choice of blue cheese or ranch but since we ordered 2 different types of wings. They gave us one of each. I like that the blue container is for blue. You cant screw that up!
The wings we ordered were super meaty and buffalo sauce def had some kick to it! Cant wait to return to try more!
We were eager to try this new addition to the area.
We had the buffalo wings, the garlic buffalo wings, the fried ravioli, the sliced steak sandwich and an order of french fries. The wings, while not huge, were a decent size. They were cooked excellently, still plump and juicy, and well sauced. The fried ravioli were a hit with the rest of the family. The big hit was the sliced steak sandwich. The fries were surprisingly good. Usually fries don't make the trip home very well. These kept their crispiness and taste.
While not much ambiance to eat in at for dinner, this looks to be a fun place to take in for a playful dinner.
This place is a total dive but in the end it's a good thing. Does it have the most awesome atmosphere? No way in heck super tiny shitty parking lot but any restaurant that goes into this location knows that's in store for it. They only have a few tables and can probably take maybe 15 people max. They are definitely catering for a to-go crowd. And apparently they deliver that's pretty cool.
But this place is getting four stars because it's food is so good. I came in with my parents and we shared the wings. We got them in Spanky sauce. And holy bejeebers they were so good!! The wings and so was her a little small and overcooked but the sauce was amazing! We were very impressed overall.
We also shared a salad that had fried chicken in it and it was quite yummy. But it had too much dressing which is funny because we were asked if we wanted the dressing on it when the salad was tossed and when we said light, The guy said sure no problem. But there was still so much dressing that my parents I were laughing about how much would've been otherwise. My dad also got a Philly cheesesteak sandwich and he said it was one of the best he ever had outside of Philadelphia.
Will my parents and I go back here? Heck yeah we well! And I am excited to try their delivery service sometime.
So last Friday evening after a long, grueling day at work…cough cough, It was long but not all that grueling….the story goes that I was so tired that I could not cook, so it was a mere call home to say I will surprise you with food. G was all for that. I knew Spankys had opened and read the reviews so it was time for a try. I had seen Spankys in the construction phase as I had frequented the DD next to them before.
Now first things first. Being that DD is right next to Spankys they do share the parking lot which can get very busy. Another thing is the maneuvering into this small parking lot can be a lot like fitting an elephant thru a small space. Because the parking lot sits on a corner of very busy roads, which also have multiple Red Light Cameras, its safe to say be careful in making your turn into the parking lot. You do not want a $50 ticket with your food.
Now to the ordering. You walk in and the first thing to your left is the order area. Two registers and then sort of a line area to the pick up area. There is some seating in the restaurant, but this place is smaller so its cozy but you might need to take your food to go. The menu is to the middle of the restaurant above the cooking area. Since I had not visited here before it took me a few minutes to decide what to order. The line moved fast with three people in front of me, but that is were fast kind of ended.
My order was the following:
Fish and Chips, 10 Wings with Honey BBQ sauce, Philly cheesesteak sandwich.
I like to order an few different items when I come to a new place, that way you get a good feel of what the restaurant really does well. During my wait time I got to meet Chris who is the owner here. He was very friendly to all of the customers and did some apologizing for a few orders that got a little messed up to no fault of Chris. Seems a man in line took another customers order while I was there, leaving that customer forced to wait for a redo of their order.
You could tell that the cooks were still trying to get in the groove of cooking and coordination of the orders. From the time that I ordered until I left it was going on 20 minutes. During my visit I talked with Chris and told him that I really thought that the time from order to pick up was way too long. He did agree. I am not going to count much off for the delay because I really think the cooks were working well together but the coordination was off and that will work itself out.
When my food was finally ready, I looked in the bag and said wait, where are the chips? Chris said, they are in there. I said, say what??? 5 pieces of potato is fish and chips? Well apparently so, hummm. Chris said those are thick cut potatoes so that's what comes with the fish and chips. I was not all that happy about what I saw, so Chris did give me some extra fries to go with the meal. I would say that with Fish and Chips something has to be the star of the meal and we always hope it will be the Fish, but if not, you better have ample chips to make up the difference.
G was excited to see me come in the door, either because of the food or me or both! I quickly unwrapped the food and did not even bother plating. G said that the Philly cheesesteak was full of flavor, with lots of tender beef and nicely cooked peppers and onions. He really enjoyed his sandwich. This is not a hero sized sandwich, more a medium sized hoagie roll sandwich. G also tasted my fish and thought that it was very light and nicely battered. G also was a bit surprised by the lack of chips in the meal. I will say that the fish portions, 4 smaller pieces were quite good, but if your looking for what most might think would be in a fish and chips order, you are going to be disappointed. The Fish and Chips at Spankys although good might be one to pass on. It simply is not a substantial amount of fish or chips. With the three things I picked up the star of the show was the WINGS! Spankys wings were big and tasty. Spankys does not bread their wings so you get crispy skins with a tender meat and then the sauce of your choice. Ordinarily I would order a hotter sauce, but G likes honey barbecue sauce so I choose that flavor. The sauce was good and it did not over shadow the wings at all. Both of us were impressed by the tasty flavor of the wings. This would be our go to place should we just want some tasty great wings.
Now for the tasty "looking" review of something we did not eat. The hamburger. I saw the cooks preparing this vision of loveliness and thought maybe I had ordered the wrong items. The patty appeared to be handmade and even not cooked, the meat from afar looked fresh and hand pattied. Nothing like a good burger and although I did not taste it, my mind said….oh that looks good.
So my review is 4 stars based on the Wings and the Philly cheesesteak sandwich. One star removed for the really slow time from ordering to actually getting your food and the disappointing Fish and Chips.
This place is incredible! Fresh & savory. We had an appetizer spread of the garlic fries, jalapeño poppers, fried pickles and Cajun chips (that aren't on the menu highly recommended!). The garlic fries are a garlic lovers dream. The jalapeño poppers are deep fried and crunchy filled with over flowing cheese beware! Fried pickles are tasty and the Cajun chips are addicting.
We had fried Oreos for dessert and they were fresh and as close to fair Oreos as I've ever had.
Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu!
Five stars well earned.
Having seen this location change hands several times, I was hesitant to try Spanky's. My buddy and I finally caved in tonight and we weren't disappointed. Spanky's Food Factory gives off an ambiance very appropriate to its name with an industrial look to the tables and walls. The menu isn't huge, but the choices are unique and hold a good array of variety for the size. I chose to share several items with my friend, starting with the wings (which seemed to be what people were raving about on other reviews). I can be rather picky with wings so I was a little worried (I shouldn't have been). We split an order of 5 honey BBQ and 5 of Spanky's own signature sauce wings along with an order of cheese tots, fried pickles, and garlic fries. Starting with the fries I was quite impressed with the amount of chopped garlic placed on these nicely-sized potato wedges. They were arguably my second favorite part of the meal. The fried pickles were also delightful even though the breading on them was different than I've seen on a pickle before. Unfortunately the cheese tots were nothing special and the honey BBQ sauce on the wings didn't have a significant sweet or tangy flavor to them. As for Spanky's sauce, now that was the kicker of the meal. A slightly sweet yet spicy concoction that had me dipping everything in the leftover sauce. The wings were meaty and 5 was a great amount (and were accompanied with carrots, celery, and choice of ranch or blue cheese). Did I mention the portions were large and prices were quite affordable? Well, now I have, and now it's your turn to visit this surprisingly tasty factory of food.
My review is solely based on 100 wings ordered for the super bowl;
The ordering was easy, just a quick call and the owner/manager was very helpful to go along with the easy to manage website. I had my cousin pick up the wings at their last available time 5:00 pm and they said it was just a crazy mess. People were everywhere and total confusion. They didn't receive the order til about 5:30.
The wings themselves are pretty good but nothing to write home about. Not too much fat but probably would taste better if we had them hot out of the fryer. The buffalo sauce was normal and their special Spanky's sauce was identical to a sweet and spicy Asian sauce. Maybe I will try this place but not anytime soon.
