I usually go to the other (Hoboken) location. As such, I only come here when I'm super excited about a new Stone release and they haven't shipped to the other location yet (all of Sparrows deliveries come to this location and then this location divides the goods). If I drank more wine I'd like this location better but because I mainly drink beer I like the other location better (from a lay out point of view)
Sparrow has been on Washington Street in Hoboken for a long time. It's a large store with a mostly-wine selection. When you first enter, you will find unique labels of wines at sale prices. Then there are mostly European wines in the front right, Cali wines in the middle, and less expensive Cali / Spain / Argentina / Chile / Aussie wines in the back. Some prices are on the high side, but if you know your prices, you can always find something well-priced here, and occasionally even better-priced than your typical supermarket liquor department. It's easily your best bet if you're going to a BYOB in the Washington Street area. Naturally, they have a beer/liquor selection too. It's also a place for accessories and even last minute cheeses.
This place is my go-to spot to buy booze in Hoboken.
Décor: It's a liquor store and, honestly, all of them in town are relatively similar. This one, however, falls on the side of the scale I'd call "upscale/nice." The décor is nicely kept and it's very well-lit. Their selection is also HUGE!
Staff: The staff is absolutely TOP NOTCH! I was looking for a specific beer, Del's Shandy, and they pulled a few out of the back for me (non-refrigerated ones, just like I wanted). On top of that, I went home and grabbed the (unopened) refrigerated pack I had and they returned it. It was absolutely wonderful and just what I needed – yes, it's odd that I wanted non-refrigerated but it's a long story…
Drinks: Like I said, HUGE selection of EVERYTHING!
Value: The prices are right where you'd expect.
I'm a huge fan and will always come here first when buying any kind of beer or booze.
Great booze selection and friendly customer service. If you're looking for an endless wine selection or that unique bottle of happiness to give as a gift. Fly on over to Sparrow!
Meh, this place was OK. Decent selection, not the best organized (for wine anyway). Some things were really overpriced. I'm not from Jersey so maybe this is a regional thing, but I am from CT, and the Californian wines seemed WAY overpriced to me.
I really don't understand the complaints here, but oh well.
Sparrow has the best beer selection in Hoboken. This is a great place to grab a few bottles before you go to a BYOB place on Washington. They had Sierra Celebration before anyone else in the area.
Not only that, but the employee that helps with the beer is an incredibly knowledgeable guy. He knows his beer and always provides new recommendations when I stop in.
Really just an all around excellent local liquor store. Super friendly and knowledge staff, with a solid selection at totally reasonable prices. Best shop in Hoboken.
I love this wine store, they are nice and close to the path on Washington Ave. My go on my walk to my
Boyfriend's apt. Parking sucks usually on Washington and there is no private parking lot so be sure to take a walk over not a drive.
They have a good selection of wine. They are a little overpriced but you have to factor rent into the equation. It is prime realty in Hoboken, and it's still cheaper than NYC price.
The employees are always nice and friendly.
Some of them aren't that knowledgable about different kinds of wine. I've asked a few questions in the past and didn't really get any direction but they still tried and did it with a smile!
