  1. I love a good beer and sausage place–we have a handful of them where I live, and they're always reliable options for a solid meal where you can sit down and have a drink and relax for a while without spending a ton of money. I went to Spritzenhaus for a birthday party while I was visiting New York, and it was a great spot for a large group to hang out loosely for several hours on a Wednesday night.

The place was huge, spacious and open comfortable with a lot of communal seat-yourself tables. We spread out over a few of these, hanging out and playing Truth or Dare Jenga with moderate success (most of the Jenga pieces are written on, but they don't always translate well to Truths and Dares; one of my friends did FaceTime several people whose phone numbers were on the blocks, and a shocking number of them picked up). The vibe was relaxed and convivial, and we all ate and drank at our own pace. There was no table service–you order at the bar and pick up at the other end. Pretty easy, pretty quick, and the bartenders were friendly.

I had a couple of the beers on tap–the Tripel Karmaliet Belgian ale and the Two Hearted ale, both great–and a sausage and fries for dinner. The sausage was excellent. I got the krainerwurst, which was a smoked garlic pork and beef sausage with chipotle aioli, and topped it with the jalapeño jicama coleslaw. Could've used a little more jalapeño in that slaw (who cares about jicama?) but it was all very tasty, the sausage snappy and flavorful, the slaw fresh and cooling. The bun was good, too, up to the task of holding it all together. I also loved the Belgian fries, nice and crispy on the outside, thin but with creamy centers. There were a few orders on the table with a few different dipping sauces. Not sure what they all were, but I got us the maple banh mi sauce, which was on point, sweet and spicy, made with sesame oil, sriracha, maple syrup, and cilantro.

Spritzenhaus was fun and easy with good food and beer–I could see myself going often if I lived in this part of Brooklyn. I'd recommend it to locals and visitors alike. It's one of those places you can hit without planning and get a delicious, affordable meal with booze to boot.

  2. Great beer garden in greenpoint!  Came here on a Saturday around 3pm and wasn't too packed yet but within one or two hours super filled with people!  Great selection of beers and long tables for big groups.  Lots of people celebrating their birthdays here.  Also a lot of people outside with their super cute dogs !!!  I only ate the fries which were delicious and came with two types of sauces yummm.  Solid place for some beers and friends !!

  3. My cousins know beer — they've lived in the city for 20 or so years and drink practically every weekend. You point at a beer, they can tell you how much it probably costs and how many oz's the bar will serve you. Thus, I trust them. They love this bar. I love this bar.  The beer choices are solid, and the prices are decent. There are always seats. The service is fast and they address you right when you walk up. The food is also good — mostly german inspired food like sausages, various forms of bratwurst, fries and pretzels. It's a mix of local brooklynites and manhattanites — couple of families here or there with sleeping babies since it's not extremely loud. It's always open air (floor to ceiling windows that they open up to the outside seating area) unless it's pouring outside. It's one of those laid back, let's gather together as a group, play games like Jenga and drink for 3 hours till dinner type of place. We will be going here till forever as long as we live in new york :).

  4. Beer. And lots of it. Didn't spend too much time here because of Game 6 but plenty of space for fellowship and good times. I had a 90 Minute DogFish Head. The variety is easily one of the best I have EVER seen. I will be  be back for a more extensive review.

  5. Came here on a Tinder date and I must say, I was impressed. I would have never chose this place. Besides beer, they have a food menu and I ordered the vegetarian sausage with slaw. There were many topping options but I felt pressured on time. I can't show how picky I am of an eater on the first date! We initially ordered beer; I went with my safe choice of stout. It wasn't until an hour later that I ordered food. You gotta feed a girl on a date! Geezer was I hungry. He wasn't hungry so I felt like a fat ass eating but ehh it would have been a waste of a yelp review on beer. He ordered the fries and barely touched it while I vacuumed my hot dog. It was okay..I was hoping for so blasting flavors but I'm sure the other toppings would have done that.

    Environment: loud, packed and upbeat.

  6. This place has a great variety of beers, and a considerable amount of beers that you can order in an amount of .5L (if you like hefeweizens try Maisel's!!)

It's a very relaxed environment, but friendly and usually very busy. Perfect for a night with nice weather.

Also in case you're worried you've forgotten anything, Lance is very quick to respond whether they've found your anything at the bar. Thank you for your quick response time, Lance!

  7. The first time I came here was years ago, in the dead of winter and this place made such an impression, that even though I didn't know what this place was called when I came here (I wasn't the one leading the something of a bar crawl that evening), I somehow called upon my Google powers to track this place down. Pretty sure remembering that Greenpoint is known as being a Polish neighborhood was key.

I love how casual this place is. I love how you can just fling yourself into a corner and hang out. I love how spacious it is. I love the beer selection. I love that the food selection is self-serve, which makes it easy as hell to be fed while drinking, and that it's not the usual bar fare that makes you feel worse about yourself. Then again, this is Brooklyn, so I would be pretty disappointed with anything but.

When I first came here, with the fires going, it felt like a rustic, German ski-lodge beer hall and when I came back here this past Sunday evening, it felt like an extension of your indoor patio. Very cozy space, regardless of the season. Perfect for any point in your evening, but I don't know that I would make this the one and only stop in an evening. It wasn't this weekend, and it wasn't years ago for me. Just make sure make it A stop.

  8. Good beer, clean bathrooms, friendly service. Played jenga and cards. Had the smoked pork/beef sausage with jalapeno-jicama slaw and belgium fries. Both really hit the spot and the fries were nice and crispy. The sausage casing had a great snap when you bit into it.
