I've been coming here entirely too much lately. I blame the following for that:
*THE best pancakes in the whole world (bold statement, I know, but go ahead and order a pancake there and see how you feel). Oh, and the syrup is top rate as well!
*Portions are of normal size. So my usual order of a tuna melt on rye has enough tuna for just one person, instead of something you'd serve a family of 6 on one piece of bread (I take food waste seriously, so listen up Tops Diner!).
*Home fries are consistently crispy. Coffee is hot, tastes great, and is filled often. So many diners fail at these two musts. The Stack gets it right, EVERY time.
*Last, but certainly the most important: old school style service.
The Stack, everything a diner should be*!
*I would advertise with that line. If you're reading this Stack, just compensate me with free pancakes for a year (or life, whatever) and we'll call it even! Thanks.
PANCAKES. AND. STEAK. What more do you want, let's just be honest with ourselves right now.
Okay I will admit I have yet to have the steak here, but the pancakes are so legit I can't imagine the steak is any lesser. Real old style Jersey family joint, so happy this kind of place is still around.
But let me tell you about these pancakes… like, if I could project an emotion into your brain Vulcan-mind-meld style I think that would be the best way to describe how fluffy, amazing, satisfying and ideal these pancakes are. I had the banana pancakes with the special syrup and a side of sausage and I wept for those in this world who have yet to experience such joy. I also got to try the COCONUT PINEAPPLE PANCAKES with a side of ham which I mean, like, if I need to go on then I don't even know what to tell you other than to repeat COCONUT. PINEAPPLE. PANCAKES. PLUS HAM.
Can't wait to go back here and eat everything else.
This place was highly recommended to me so I was excited to try it one morning with my mom. There wasn't anything good about our experience.
We get seated at the table and our waitress comes over to take our drink orders and asks us to bear with her. Eh no problem, not in a big rush, although it was a Saturday morning and not that many people were there.
The waitress comes back in a bit to take our order. After she leaves, my mom says to me, "I must need a hearing aid because I cannot understand a thing the waitress is saying." I respond, "Mom, that's because the lady has only 1 snaggly tooth in her mouth. She asked us to bear with her again…" We still don't understand why as there's not much going on.
We had ordered blueberry pancakes and cinnamon raisin french toast. I was officially freaked out by the label-less maple syrup, but you have to pay $1.75 extra for their homemade syrup. They should just provide their own maple syrup if it's that good and incorporate it into the price. Anyway, I could have made the french toast myself. It was just thin slices of bread, not the big fluffy french toast one expects. No powdered sugar. No whipped butter. My mom's pancakes were ehhh, I've had better. The waitress didn't come back once to check on us or refill my mom's coffee. Then, I had a stomach ache for the rest of the day.
(Character note: If I wasn't so freaked out and unhappy with the experience I would not have been so harsh about the toothless woman)
Was in the mood for some breakfast for dinner so I came across Stack Pancake and Steak House. Walked in and was immediately greeted by owner and staff. Had a hard time deciding what order as they offer a wide variety of things. Ultimately went with the Belgian waffle with fresh strawberries and a fresh feta and spinach omelette with a stack of pancakes to-go. Prices are comparative to other breakfast spots. Within a few minutes of placing my order, I was out the door. BIG plus!
The waffle was light but not as crispy as I like it. Still, it was very tasty. The omelette was nicely sized and the pancakes were better than the waffle. They were light and fluffy. They also packed some whipped butter in my bag – definitely better than other places that serve regular yellow butter.
The place is quaint and spacious though, from the outside, it's hard to tell.
Great pancakes and fast and friendly service…I would recommend Stack Pancake to anyone hoping to locally grub on breakfast. Looking forward to dining in and trying other dishes out.
Another awesome breakfast/brunch spot in the Kearny/North Arlington area. They serve up some fluffy and satisfying pancakes and the portions are huge – quite notable. Similar to Tops Diner farther along the road, but I feel the Stack is mainly good for breakfast items and Tops is good for … Well, everything.
Don't expect top-notch service nor a luxury brunch spot. Stack is a down-to-earth and local favorite that serves up homey & hearty meals. It's good, but not the best you've ever had.
Homey, laid back vibe with plenty of space and friendly staff. I wanted something filling and decadent, so I went the waffle sandwich, which is just a regular belgian waffle with a scrambled egg and sausage on top. The sausage is super thick but tastes just as delicious as sausage links from your mom's table. The waffle was light and airy, and it tasted like a dream soaked in maple syrup. Just what I wanted.
We shared an order of disco fries, which are just ok, not much gravy, and the cheese isn't very flavorful. Thankfully, they are serving some very good coffee, and they'll refill your cup for free.
One of the best diners in the area, a close second only to Tops.
I stopped in Stacks after taking visiting Rutgers one day because my grandparents had recommended that I tried it out after the remodeling. I remembered the restaurant as sub par the last time that I visited and I found it to be slightly better this time around.
I ordered an omelet and it was decent, the potatoes were meh. I did like the spinach in the omelet, that was very good and the coffee was decent.
If I was in the area again, I'd consider stopping in but I don't think it was anything too special.
After hearing my friends rave about this place, I have been dying to try it, so I came here late one night with my dad. I have heard that it gets packed during breakfast and brunch times, so I was glad we didn't run into that kind of crowd. There was no one in the place when we came here, it was practically empty! There were plenty of parking spaces at that time, but I could see how parking would be a challenge when they're really busy. Our waitress was pretty bad. Some of her responses were majorly lame. I asked if the corned beef hash was good and she said "I don't like corned beef hash!" My dad asked about the difference between two steaks and she just said "I don't even know!" If you are working at a restaurant, you should be able to answer questions about the menu, or at least go and ask someone else who might know. I ordered an iced coffee and it was just OK, nothing great. I then ordered the corned beef hash and eggs, which came with pancakes. The pancakes were the best part of the meal and the eggs were decent, I really didn't care for the corned beef hash at all. My dad ordered the ribeye steak and eggs, which came with pancakes as well. He said the steak wasn't very good and that the pancakes were the most decent thing he had. I had very high expectations for this place and was pretty disappointed! For a place that specializes in breakfast items and steak, neither were even that good! I am probably not going to return anytime soon. There are way better places for breakfast and steak in the area.
