  1. Loosely classified as "enjoyably bipolar," this Starbucks is exactly that.  The eclectic mix of staff ensures a varyingly exciting experience each time I visit.

Some days you'll find the cashier that looks so angry that I'm surprised the touch screen doesn't get cracked from the incessant finger punching.

Then you may run into another team member who is so infuriated that someone didn't show up for work that they spend most of their time walking back and forth behind the counter looking for different (usually amusing) ways to be dramatic about it.

Other days you will find the cheeriest, loudest bunch of starbuckians this side of the Hudson who all seem to have fared quite well in a "how many shots of espresso can we all have in 10 minutes" contest.

Most days they are so busy that I have repeatedly found myself undercharged, and I very often hear the "would you like the 4th shot free?" when I get a triple latte.  Incorrectly made/extra drinks are fairly common when it is packed, so keep your ears open for a "does anyone want this?  Its free!"

Watch for a long line of mid-morning and mid-afternoon strollers, and bring some earphones for getting work done – because despite the noise, there are a lot of tables to work at, not to mention the biggest (thanksgiving style) wooden table I've ever seen inside any Starbucks to date.

  2. I have to echo other, more recent reviews in saying that the baristas are sub-par. Slow, mumbling, and screwing up orders. They were just about incapable of communicating with customers – all of whom spoke perfect English. Filling each single-drink order was rather painful. And it wasn't even that busy when we were there! Management really needs to step it up.

  3. Convenient location, good ambiance, small shop so limited seating. Seems like they are short staffed but they are efficient and fast. Line gets long but they are cool and not stressed.

Got a gingerbread latte and chestnut praline without the praline topping, both without whipped cream. Chestnut latte was good, just enough flavor. Gingerbread latte was lacking in gingerbread flavor, tasted like a regular latte.

Clean and the employees are friendly. Good service.

  4. Why does it always seem like feast or famine during my Starbucks visits? I will avoid dwelling on the negative, because today I had a chance to feast. Acknowledgement and request for my order while I was 2 deep in line, and a deft handling of my combo payment with my rewards credit and other less expensive item.  Ample seating and an uncrowned wifi in the morning has me liking this place.

  5. It's a good spot to do a bit of work over a coffee.  Nice communal table, and a few really comfy lounge chairs in the back.  Not the fastest during peak times, but off times they're fine.  Also good outdoor seating for the warmer days, nearly doubling seating capacity.

Quite overpriced on the food side, but what's new…it's Starbucks.

  6. This place just can't get it together.. Keeps getting my orders wrong and always a long line with bad attitude. Their saving grace is the ample seating that loops to the back. The fireplace is a nice touch.

Keep in mind it is stroller central given the residential area this is located in.

  7. Yuuuup, reviewing a Starbucks.
    It meets all Starbucks criteria….
Looks like a Starbucks, got my venti iced coffee relatively quickly, ok bathrooms.
It did have ample seating which is always a plus and outside seating which is a bonus.
It is also not far from the ferry, a block off Washington, near some shopping.
And apparently the staff knows the regulars by name, which is nice.

  8. I actually enjoy the funky layout of this Starbucks. There was ample seating coupled with large reclaimed wood table. There is something about reclaimed wood that gives the place a certain pizazz. Funny enough everyone gathered like a hip family during thanksgiving, But with laptops.

My Batista was a definite highlight here. I wish I knew her name! She kept a smile on her face and pleasantly gave me my drink, though it was near closing time. She was really on her "A" game.

There is a nice park nearby and beautiful views of Manhattan. I am starting to think this is the best of the 3 Starbucks in Hoboken.
