  1. Not the greatest Starbucks I've been to. I understand that it's directly across from Columbia University, hence why it's ALWAYS crowded and the line's out the door, but they should work on that. No matter when you come here, the line will always be long, even when Columbia is not in session during the fall and spring. There's few people working the register and making the drinks, and the drinks, because of this reason, almost always come out bad. My coffee here once was scalding, piping HOT. And my passion tea lemonade was mostly ice, this is unacceptable. There is hardly any room to sit here, because it's SO small and the wifi is very spotty, probably from everyone logged onto it.

  2. I've been here basically every other day now for about 3 months. Your neighborhood Starbucks, nothing out of this world, but I've generally had decent customer service each time. These staff have to deal with a slew of demanding students day in and day out, so I'll forgive them if they're not roses and sunshine every 5 seconds.

I will die forever loving the toffeedoodle cookie … its what dreams are made of.

  3. I went there with a friend yesterday in the late afternoon.  The space is very small, and it was obvious that people with laptops were lingering endlessly.  However, the workers were pleasant and efficient.

  4. Average Starbucks in NYC. Loud. Smells like coffee. Long lines. I mean there's a Starbucks every 2 blocks here but there are still lines!
It's convenient for Columbia students to get to but it seems like there's always a line which is understandable when you have thousands of sleep deprived college students living in the surrounded few blocks!

Overall, would go again because it's convenient, quick and standard in terms of what to expect. Also the workers in this Starbucks are nice

Also try the Nutella secret menu drink! It's an iced coffee with milk, 1 pump chocolate, 1 pump hazelnut and caramel drizzle. So good!

  5. Typically I don't write reviews for chains like Starbucks, but the Starbucks by Columbia University deserves an honorable mention. Many of the other reviewers state that the service is bad and the store is dirty, that is far from the truth. For the last year I've been coming to this Starbucks for my daily caffeine fix, I have never had a bad experience. I know the wait is sometimes long but that's what you get when people need their coffee in the morning.

Try using the mobile app to order. I like ordering while i'm on the 1 train at 110th street. Usually by the time you get to 116 your drink is ready on the counter for you.

  6. Just your average Starbucks. This one is a bit cramped for space. It's definitely almost always busy during the day as it's the closest to the university. At night it usually calms down.

  7. As someone that works in health care and is a frequent Starbucks buyer (due to utter convenience, more than anything), I believe that two types of people deserve awards and constant praise for being able to put up with people's crap and still keeping a smile on their face: nurses and baristas.

However, the baristas at this location lose eligibility for their non-chalance and rudeness. Yes, we all dislike our jobs at times, but do not discuss it in front of me and other customers with your co-workers AS YOU WORK. Cardinal rule, I feel. In one instance, it came across as though my barista at the time was saying this within earshot of us to garner sympathy.

Nope. Fail. I just think you're whining.

In addition, tables and chairs are made available to Starbucks customers. If I buy a cup of tea, I may sit down and enjoy it inside of the establishment, no questions asked. There is no prerequisite that states I must have a laptop, mobile device, or textbook to do so. Tell that to the swarms of Columbia students that post up in there. How DARE I sit in one of the individual counter seats overlooking Broadway with only my drink and no iPad to scroll through! With the looks I got from some, you would have thought that I punched a baby or something! My goodness…

The vibe at this Bucky's is NOT a good one. Unless you are a CU person desperate for caffeine, take your chances, or walk down to Oren's where the vibe and product are infinitely better.

  8. Stays open late being near 3 college campus this is a plus! Great beverages and pastries what else do you need!
