Not the Starbucks you want to put out there as a glowing example of the brand…
What's up with the part of Manhattan by the Garden? Its kind of seedy and the sidewalks are laced with garbage in the morning like the way people probably imagine the whole city was (it's not) had they never been before.
So this Starbucks fit in to the neighborhood. Staff was friendly and fast enough; I got a seat (as others have noted, next to some interesting people). There were no napkins and the "condiment" (not the right word but you know what I mean) station was sort of a mess.
I didn't venture upstairs and wasn't brave enough to try the bathrooms.
I cannot in good faith give an establishment that provides me with an adequate supply of morning caffeine a rating of less than a-ok. But more napkins next time, plz.
I came to this Starbucks also on 2 occasions and both days were because the people I was working with had rented rooms over at Champion Studios which is in another review.
However, I made 2 separate trips to this Starbucks at 2 different times.
The first trip was early in the morning and my producer sent me to fetch that big ol' coffee tanker of Joe (coffee). I believe they call it traveler's size or something on the Starbuck's receipt.
Anywho, it was good for 10 cups of coffee and it will run you about $17 for it.

That wasn't the shocking part. The shocking part was later in the day and my producer sent me out to get ANOTHER tanker of Joe.

She has a balling budget or else supplemented it with food because for lunch all we had was saltine crackers.
I kid…maybe.
There was a line on both occasions but the wait was much more agonizing during the afternoon line.
Ugh…I guess everyone drinks coffee in the afternoon at THIS Starbucks?
Service :
MORNING
In the morning, one of the cashier barista's were confused at the request for a box of Joe but after asking ANOTHER barista they were able to confirm that they do sell it and they'd have to check on whether they had the boxes to put the Joe in.
5 minutes later…the other barista "Yes, we have the boxes."
10 minutes later…he comes up with the box (1 box) still partly assembled.
Another 10 minutes later…he finishes assembling the box and pours coffee into it.
5 minutes later…10 empty cups, half & half creamer poured into another empty Starbucks cup and some coffee stirrers, the bag was set. Everything else, sugar, napkins, yada yada is self served at the table to the far left as you entered through the front door.
I do have to mention that the other barista as I called him because I did not get his name was cordial even though the whole getting coffee was a bit slower than I had anticipated.
AFTERNOON
I was sent back here to retrieve another 10 cups of jolts for the cast/crew. Again, the same confusion when I asked about the box of Joe but this time the other barista was on lunch or something.
Same spiel, let me check on boxes, finds boxes, yada yada.
20 minutes later…the new barista comes up with box.
FFS man did you have to press the paper, dye it brown, cut it, put the plastic sprout on, AND iron press the Starbucks logo on it during this time.
I could have sworn people was semi snickering as they left, the same people that ordered lunch, paid for the food, finished eating and then went merrily on their way.
10 minutes later, the mission was complete and onto the self serve condiments.
Moral of this long story?
STARBUCKS IS SLOW at this location but ESPECIALLY during the AFTERNOON.
Whhhaattt a Starbucks with no line…..who knew?!?!? Well let me tell you I love a "No Line" establishment and this one had no line.
Everything else is franchise regulation:)
Ok before someone jumps down my throat for giving this place the same rating I gave AYZA, know that I'm covering this for what it is – a Starbucks. I'm not going to go into detail about their coffee, or their prices, or their baked goods. We all know they do pricey coffee that's not quite worth it.
What I like about this Starbucks in particular, justifying this review's existence (because what kind of person reviews a Starbucks?? Well, me, apparenlty) is that it's a very clean, friendly place – lots of baristas tend to rush you through the line or give you the brush-off, but not here. I mean, it does get packed at times and the staff isn't exactly chatty, but they've always taken the time to be welcoming, and I really appreciate that.
What I also appreciate is that even when I get there just before closing, I can usually get a snack if I want – a lot of places have already cleared out their shelves by that point, I'm glad they haven't here. Lastly, they're very spacious – I read some complaint that the place was small, I figure that reviewer didn't notice the secnd floor.
Ugh I just wrote a Yelp review for a Starbucks. I've lost control of my life.
Yelp! says there's free wi-fi here. I saw no such thing. Also nowhere to plug in.
My vanilla latte was just ok. The milk wasn't hot. I didn't wait too long. I do like the seating where you can sit at the window and people watch the tourists going by.
I used the ordering feature from the app and got my drink almost instantly! In less than 5 minutes my drink was ready and I just popped into the store, picked up my drink and left.
Yummy soy chai latte. Nothing to complain about. Starbucks is pretty good at standardizing the quality of their drinks. In fact this was a little less sweet than some other chai lattes, which I prefer.
The store is pretty small and narrow. It is pretty much the only Starbucks in the area though.
But why was there always only one person taking orders and one barista each time I visited? It was noon time. The wait was forever. I expected better…
This New York location is hard to differentiate from all the other multitude of starbucks locations that permeate the streetscape…. till you get in the doors.
Great staff!
