  1. Great spot for breakfast.  Plenty of tables and a few seats at the counter.  Your typical diner fare but in a friendly and comfortable environment.  Food was prepared very quickly and was delicious.  Unlike most diners this one accepts credit cards.

  2. Five stars for a corner diner? Yes indeed. I had a voucher for breakfast from the Union Hotel and I have never been so pleased with a free meal! Perfectly done eggs, ample but not huge portion- nice vibe and friendly service. I'd be a regular if I lived here:)

  3. You can find cool things when you're drunk.

Dancing shoes. Beer goggles. Karate skills. The ability to free-style. You name it.

And on better inebriated escapades, you can sometimes find awesome diners like Station Cafe.

Nestled at the bottom of the Slope, it's a perfect stumble from some of the area's 5th Ave. watering holes.  All doors and windows are propped open – you barely even notice Station Cafe has them to begin with. This open-air patio layout could not be more ideal for a hot summer's late-night gorge-fest. For a moment, it's enough to think you just might be somewhere tropical. Then you quickly realize there is a gas station across this street, you are alongside yet another unattractive stretch of 4th Ave., you are more hammered than you may have first realized, and this heat wave is now making you hallucinate that you have time-warped to Spring Break 2006, Acapulco, Mexico. You know, before the drug cartels took over.

Anyway, their Patty Melt was bursting with greasy goodness, even if the grilled onion kept creeping out the bun. Still, I say the only safe bets at diners add up to two at best: 1) breakfast (any which way you desire; this meal should always be this type of joint's forte); and 2) patty melts. And yet, having adopting this philosophy, I was truly surprised at how delicious Station Cafe's burger-meets-grilled-cheese sandwich turned out to be.

I've had quite the bone to pick with so-called "diners" in the area, mostly due to their operating hours. I grew up on joints that closed basically once a year (Christmas), if that. And at least Station Cafe meets me halfway on the weekends, when they switch to 24-hour service. Plus, a 4th Ave. location does have its perks – when you stagger outside at 5am, there's bound to be a car service swooping in to scoop you up and take you home to drunken dreamland. Come the next morning, I assure you, you can wake up alongside worse things in your bed than a Station Cafe delivery menu.

  4. As the TV commercial goes, come to the Station Cafe with your appetite, but don't come with your American Express, as they take every other card than AMEX.

My hotel bought breakfast here during my stay; there were 7 items to choose from and all we had to pay was tip. The breakfast was great. Service was cheerful.

It's open 24 hours Friday and Saturday and it's right in front of the subway entrance. What more can you ask of a neighborhood diner?

  5. I was so surprised when my hotel told me that our morning breakfast was at a diner. So that is what led me to Station Cafe. It was easy to find, right on the corner. I came in at about 10:30am so I guess the morning rush crowd was already over, there were only about 5 people in this diner. I was seated immediately. The waitress asked me if i like a cup of coffee and I said yes please! I had my choice of a few different items for breakfast and I went with two eggs, and it came with sides of breakfast potatoes and meat. I chose sausage. She then also brought me a cup of orange juice. When my breakfast came, it was much better than I expected. The sausage was juicy and big (no pun intended!), the eggs cooked perfectly, and the potatoes well seasoned, all with a little side of grease. Exactly what I want with my diner food. I had to rush out to catch a flight so I had to grab a togo box for the rest of my food. The star off is for the service. They were able to take care of what I needed but nothing over and above, best way to describe it would be "efficient".

Even without the hotel provided breakfast, I would come back here when I am in the area.

  6. Disco fries with gravy after a night of head banging metal, booze, and strippers at Lucky 13 down the street is always a must!

Super nice staff here that will even pull out a power cord to charge your phone after you killed the battery taking pictures of the strippers dancing to heavy metal tunes on the bar.

Open late. Basic diner menu with some Mexican options included. From burgers to breakfast to burritos.

I loves me a cheap, simple, and no-frills kind of diner joint like this when I'm buzzed, hangry, and my ears are ringing from rocking out to metal strippers all night. m/

  7. A solid diner with standard fare, late hours, and a convenient location.  I had a vanilla shake, which was thick and came in a Brooklyn Brewery glass with whipped cream and a cherry on top.  My friend who swears by this diner really enjoys the tuna melt, which is pretty big for the price, and the curly fries, which looked decent. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but if you happen to be in the area looking for food, it's not a bad choice.
