Steak Truck
“It's accompanied by a waffle fry or two as well as salad and one of their tasty Falafel balls.”
“Having very delicious typical menu items (chicken/lamb/rice/gyros), they will also sometimes carry T-Bone steak, shrimp salad, or other stuff you wouldn't usually find at a food cart.”

A bit tired of eating Halal (chicken/lamb over rice), I decided to check out the Steak Truck, manned by 2 men, located on the Northeast corner of 47th St. and Park Ave. Lines were nonexistent with only one customer in front of me at 12:30 pm. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak & Waffle Fries ($6). You can optionally add onions/peppers and/or hot sauce at no additional cost. Also available are chicken cheesesteaks with waffle fries, burger with waffle fries, or double cheesesteak for $6, as well as a few other items. If you want to opt out on the waffle fries, a cheesesteak will only bring you down $4. My sandwich took about 5-6 minutes to prepare, as everything was fresh and made to order, from the beef to the waffle fries. My hero, fries, and a small container of ketchup were thrown into a standard styrofoam tray with one side stapled to prevent the food from falling out. Plastic bagged with a napkin and fork, and I was on my way.
When I opened the container, the food was served steaming hot, as I noticed that there were some melt marks on the upper part of the styrofoam container. The footlong hero (thin-shaped like a Quiznos hero), very fresh and soft, was wrapped in wax paper and cut in half. The ingredients were meshed into a perfect marriage of all its yummy goodness. The small tender pieces of beef were flavorful, though portions were not very generous as there was more bread from the hero than meat. The onions and peppers were grilled to perfection, and cheese was soft and gooey. I requested some hot sauce which added a hint of heat to the hero. Delicious!! I'd have to say I've enjoyed this Philly Cheesesteak more than Pat's, Gino's, and Jim's cheesesteaks in Philadelphia. The hero was also far from soggy, nor was there any noticeable abundance of grease like you might experience at 99 Phillies. The ~20 waffle fries were also perfectly fried, crisp on the outside, and moist with all the potatoeyness goodnesss of the inside. The small container of ketchup that was included was definitely not enough for all those fries, but the fries did fine just on its own.
Overall, the pricepoint is $1 more than the average $5 food cart, but I believe Steak Truck does justice with its higher-cost ingredients. For $6, I was very happy and will definitely come back again. My only gripe: add some more meat to the sandwich!!! (which I probably should have just ordered the double cheesesteak to satisfy my wants)
Despite the fact you have a plethora of Halal carts, Jiannetto's Pizza Truck, and La Cense Burger Truck (not so much recently) surrounding it, the Steak Truck offers the best diversity for a food truck, ranging from the chicken/lamb combo over rice and cheesesteaks to burgers and fries.
The cart is never too crowded during lunch hours, and $6 is guaranteed to give you full stomach in an area overwhelmed by high-priced, midtown lunch spots. The chicken/lamb combo over rice is fresh and appetizing, and the rice is not stuck together in lumps that you get from some Halal carts out there. Adding a piece of pita bread and few chickpeas in there was a nice touch too. The burger is served with a reasonable-sized beef patty that is juicy and tender. The fries were crunchy, and not soggy like McD's.
The wait time was no more than 3 – 5 minutes, and the truck sits right across the street from my office building on the NE corner of 47th & Park For the convenience and a price of $6, what more can you can ask for?
