Streetbird
“it's not as "chi chi" as Red Rooster but, it's not supposed to be because this bird is a Street Bird (and perfectly so).”
“For those of us who live in Harlem, we know that the corner of W 116th Street & FDB has been empty for a long, long time.”
“I am a big fan of Marcus Samuelsson, so I was excited to hear he was opening a more casual place.”

Loved Streetbird!
Atmosphere was nice, staff is friendly, and food is very good.
Kevin our server was a total sweetheart, makes personalized drinks for some people! LOL
Overall for good bird, brunch, and mimosa Streetbird is the place!
I had the enjoyment of coming here during a yelp event, and as I walked in, the first thing I noticed was the vibrant decor, making it a fun spot to hang out and enjoy some good food.
I sampled a number of items from their menu, but the shining star was their chicken wings! Never have I tasted a crispier wing. You literally hear it crackle as you bite into it. I will definitely be coming back here!
Overrated.
That sums up my collective experience at Streetbird.
I've been three times now and feel comfortable with this description.
First and foremost, be prepared to wait. For your food. Potentially for your service.
The food is actually pretty good. The portion sizes are questionable, especially for the prices.
And that's where the mismatch comes into play. While not Red Rooster prices, the amount you pay should either justify better attention to details, larger sizes of food, or both.
There is a mismatch in value. In my opinion.
This most recent time I went with my better half. She had the crispy bird sandwich. For what it cost on the menu, one would think it comes with a side/fries. It does not. So the sandwich plus a separate order of fries approaches $20. Fine. But why are the hot fries stuck together when you bring them? Even McDonald's remembers to shake their fries and they're just $1. The sandwich was pretty good though. Juicy, flavorful, well spiced.
I had the Chicken and Waffles. Over 20 minutes after placing the order, one piece of chicken and one waffle come out with a small container of their famous 'honey/maple bourbon syrup'. Rule #1 when serving waffles with any kind of syrup – syrup needs to be warm/hot, at best room temperature.
Streetbird served ice cold syrup. Fail.
The chicken was the same as in the sandwich so it was pretty good. The waffle was ok. Maybe it was good. Its hard to say. The butter or glaze used in the batter or waffle iron had a salty character to it. My waffle had a 'salted caramel' aspect to it (maybe it was the 'bourbon effect'?). Also" there was no butter served -this probably isn't that type of establishment but it was an observation.
Everything up to this point was actually written at my seat in the restaurant while waiting for the check. We had that much time.
For a chicken sandwich, fries, and chicken/waffle combo to take this much time and cost almost $40, the quality of the food and service should be worth it. In this case, it's not quite. There are other places with just as good if not better quality food and just as good service for less money – meaning GOOD VALUE. The reason other places can get away with charging more $$$ is because you are paying for better quality service and/or food. In this case the value proposition was not met in my opinion.
Which leaves the name of the founding chef as its brand. Nice enough chap. Will get lots of first timers. Not so sure about repeats. We have better options for overall value from which to choose in Harlem.
Came here on a Sunday for brunch . Not what I expected . My red velvet waffles were hard/ crunchy almost to the point of being burnt and had a very bitter taste , I did not enjoy . The chicken that went with it tasted very good though . As a side dish we got fries and Mac and cheese . The fries were such a small amount , it was kind of ridiculous . The Mac and cheese Tasted good , can't say anything bad about that . My friend got the COBB salad , he enjoyed it .
The menu prices were fair , can't complain about that either . Our waiter was nice but the other waiters weren't friendly and walked around with displeased faces .
The waffles just was really a deal breaker for me , they just weren't good. I don't know if that was a bad day or what but I was highly disappointed. I give it 2 1/2 stars because everything else tasted pretty okay .
I ordered thru UberEats, and was not expecting much based on my last experience with the service.
This was my first time eating at StreetBird, but I'm a huge Marcus fan, so I'll try whatever he's involved in. I dipped my feet in cautiously (bummer I was ordering out vs. eating in). I got the Notorious COBB salad with crispy chicken and the cornbread and chicken butter. Food arrived within 30 minutes, tightly and neatly packed.
The chicken retained the crispness, so I can imagine it is amazing fresh out the kitchen. The salad itself was really good, standard Cobb with smashed avocado and big bacon pieces. The lemon vinaigrette was one of the best dressings I've had!
Biggest disappointment was the cornbread… Seemed like mostly everything was wrong. There were two loaf slices that were terribly dry and bleak. There was real corn in the bread, but I expecting at least a cast iron cornbread, something with texture, something with soul. Flavor was just average, chicken butter to the rescue.
I'll try this place again, but I'll definitely eat in the restaurant and try a few more dishes.
The food was delivered in a timely matter. I had several menu items which I listed below. The food was served to us buffet style given the amount in our group.
Whole Chicken – I had a breast and drumstick. The chicken by itself was average. Once the BBQ sauce was added, it changed everything. The BBQ sauce was nice and smoky. I added this BBQ sauce to everything I tried except the cornbread.
Collard Greens – These were solid, no complaints. They were seasoned well and were evenly cooked.
Mash It Up Garlic Potatoes – These were real good. They had a slight garlic taste and the potatoes were cooked to perfection. They were even better with the BBQ sauce!!
Mac and Cheese – This was above average. I thought there could have been more cheese flavoring added, but everything else was just right including how the pasta was cooked.
Cornbread with Chicken Butter – I could not really tell the difference between this butter and regular butter, but it was tasty as well the cornbread.
Will I go back? Looking at other items on their menu, definitely.
I went here last week with my camera crew for lunch. It wasn't far away from set (Morningside Park) and kept with the 80's vibe of our 80's period piece movie.
The restaurant was clean but vibrant with a rad look that I certainly digged. The wait staff was friendly but not quite as attentive as desired especially since we had a table of 8 people.
We had to order quickly due to our lunch restriction time so I picked the chicken COBB salad. I've had Cobb salads before and I tend to make them at home because they are quick and easy. However, I wasn't prepared for what I was given when the food arrived.
The menu is detailed telling you everything that comes with your purchase except that the Cobb salad comes with Avocado. Normally this isn't an issue for a regular person but then there is me and my allergy to avocados that would send me to the hospital.
So given that I couldn't reorder due to being on the lunch clock I had to pick through every piece of lettuce, corn, tomato bit and chicken bite to ensure I wasn't going to die.
Suffice it to say this left me with half a salad, a hungry stomach and a bad 80's throwback/remake taste in my mouth.
Ordered streetbird today for dinner via Uber Eats. The only thing good that came out of this was the delivery. The food was not good. We ordered a whole bird with sweet potato mash, Mac and cheese, kale salad, red velvet waffle, and corn bread waffle.
Let's start with the waffle. Neither waffle tasted like what it was supposed to be.
The sweet potato mash wasn't anything special.
The Mac and cheese was abysmal, powdery, and tasted like it was cooked with old stale water. Just nasty.
The kale salad was super bland. It's lie they just gave some oil to drizzle on top of it and that was it for dressing.
The chicken….supposedly the highlight of the meal right? Wrong! It was also bland, underwhelming, and not worth eating. We ended up feeding it to our dog because we didn't want to waste calories on something so blah.
This is supposed to be a Marcus Samuelson place and you think oh. That guy is famous and ok tv a lot. So you would think he actually has some sort of quality control for tasty food. Apparently not. His name may sell food but it definitely doesn't mean it's going to be good! Major fail!
Zero stars if Yelp would let me. 1 star is being generous! Go eat at Pio Pio instead. At least they're chicken has great flavor!
