  1. Nice little bar to go after work gets extremely crowded and loud in the evenings . Music and atmosphere is good menu wasn't to appealing to me but the drinks were great and on point .

  2. If you like jerk chicken, strong drinks, and loud music this place is for you. I've been to Sugarcane several times and have enjoyed myself every time. I find it incredibly interesting how people will line up outside for happy hour before the place even opens. But when it opens at 5 or 5:30 people rush the bar to take advantage of the happy hour specials.

As already mentioned the drinks are strong. I recommend the rum punch it will literally transport you to a Caribbean island. I've also seen a lot of people here ordering the daiquiris and mojitos.

The food is decent. I feel like it definitely depends on who is in the kitchen because once I had some pretty good jerk chicken wings but on another day the jerk sauce was so spicy it almost lit my mouth on fire. My boyfriend really likes the ox tails from here.

Once again the place gets crowded especially on the weekends it's like a sardine can. But worth it if you're looking for an island experience.

  3. Sugarcane holds a special place in my heart. My family and I have come here for the past 8 years or so. It was always the 'it' place in my eyes having been the trailblazer for upscale Caribbean restaurants in Brooklyn and the only Trinidadian one (that I knew of). Lines to get in for dinner or a seat at the bar were and still are almost always spilling out the door, while neighboring businesses overflow with empty seats.

My times here have transitioned from family Sunday dinners with the likes of oxtail, Creole snapper, and roti to my guilty stop for all night happy hour Tue-Thur with favorites like mango martinis, sorrel margaritas, and Johnny Walker with coconut water.

Felix is the ultimate mixologist. Just watch the concentration in his eyes and precision as he creates his art. Marlon and Jodie are warm and welcoming and the spirit of the team here keeps it overflowing with loyal patrons everyday. Warning: If you're claustrophobic or looking for a quiet place to grab dinner this is not the place. The best time to come and secure a seat at the bar and a moment of quiet before the rush starts is at opening time (5:30 PM I believe). It's usually to capacity with only standing room at the bar by 7:30.

The dining experience is quite different as the service tends to be slow and the space tight, so I would not recommend it for groups. I'd suggest coming early before the crowd and ordering food by the bar. The food is tasty, but I've been limited to the rasta pasta, macaroni pie, rice and peas, and callaloo for my vegetarian go tos.

But back to the bar: Come to Sugarcane ready to chat (loudly) with friends and strangers, hear some sweet soca, have a time, and feel the vibes.

  4. Came to this spot after hearing about it a few times, as soon as you walk in you see the red accents all around, there are a good amount of tables and it was pretty comfy in there, there is also a bar inside, I had the braised oxtail which came with 2 sides and was very good, the service was slow despite being here on a Wednesday at 6pm when it wasn't busy, despite that the food was great so I'll probably be back

  5. Sugarcane has a great selection of food prepared with delicious seasonings! I eat the curried salmon with mashed potatoes and Macaroni and cheese. I am smacking my lips just thinking about it now…Sugarcane is in a great area (downtown Brooklyn) and is in a cute quaint space. They play really good music and I enjoy the happy hour as they have cocktails such as mango margaritas!

  6. So last night I had plans to go to the Bad Boy reunion concert at the Barclay center. My friends and I decided to get dinner and drinks before the show. Sugarcane is conveniently located a few blocks away from Barclay and the LIRR Atlantic terminal Brooklyn station.

We had reservations for 6pm but was running a little late. The restaurant was packed (mostly because many of the people there also has plans to attend the concert). With that said I was a little worried because we were running a little late and was afraid they would bump our reservations. Luckily the woman was really nice about it and told us that they give a 15 min window. Once we arrived (exactly 15 mins late lol) she sat us down right away! The vibe in there is so chill. The have music playing which is loud but not too loud where you need to shout across the table. They played mostly Caribbean/African music- loved it! The restaurant is pretty small and the decor is really trendy. Our waiter was great but the drinks and food was even better! For my drink I ordered the sorrel margarita… Sweet drink but really good. As for my main course I ordered the jerk salmon, rice and peas and macaroni pie- I also had some of my sisters cabbage and everything was delicious. We all agreed that we would be back next time we're in the area.

  7. I'm saddened by the poor reviews on service, especially because from my taste buds their food RockSocks!

I've been to Sugarcane before becoming a yelper and for the life of me I cannot recall my experince. However, I was on vacation and every place I was taken to seemed "nice" Lol.

I got the opportunity to try Sugarcane's food at their event SummerSparkle on Saturday 23rd July 2 0 1 6. The event (to ME) was meh. Thank heavens for the food included in my $55 ticket else all would have been lost.

The food was very good! Between my friends and I (from poor memory) we tried:
    Baked (bake)
    Fried bake
    Pholourie
    Guava glazed meat balls
    Herring
    Ackee and saltfish
    Salad
    Different types of rice
    Stew chicken
    Jerk chicken  (so good!)
    BBQ potatoes
    Roti……
There were many more dishes to sample but we had dancing to get to.

Overall I would give their food a solid four, but I need to actually visit the restaurant again to rate my experience properly. So for now three.

Can't wait! Will I enjoy or despise this noise level others wrote of? TimeWillTell
    Not, The End.

  8. NOW I've been here several times so why the 2 stars? Well its for service. I am a stickler for great service. It carries any establishment a long way. The guy with the dreads from Trinidad is a mess, nasty attitude and he actually sucks his teeth when you ask him a question. He forgot to bring the drink to my table and 30 minutes went by.

The second time my best friend and I went someone left $100.00 at the Bar for our food and we were told not to worry about our orders. The same guy happened to be our sever and our meal and drinks came up to $60.00 and he asked us to close the tab and start a new one. He wanted us to believe our food charges ate up all the money.. All he had to say was he wanted a $40.00 tip and BRUH you could've had that..

Last week we went back and got stuck in his section and he disappeared looking at women who DONT pay him any mind. But anyway when you get there you can't really pick your seats so when you do finally get a seat your stuck looking at this fool.

The food gets 5 stars… The cook…yeah he is a real Trini or he stole someones cook book. The portions are large, the curry is slamming, the potato salad is always good. The drinks are on point, not strong but ok. I had oxtails recently to try something new and to my surprise it was very good. Minimal fat and the gravy was well seasoned. I sampled the rasta pasta and it tasted good..but no one beats Foot Prints when it comes to rasta pasta..

The crowd, well its a good crowd. Nice looking men and women…

The noise level is off the chain.. Don't try to talk..
