Superiority Burger

“As someone else said, Brooks Headley isn't trying to make a meat substitute here – he's created just a great sandwich.”

“Yuba is tofu skin and to be honest I can't even comprehend how they made this taste so much like a philly cheesesteak.”

  1. Rated the best burger in THE WORLD, I had to try this ASAP. Sadly it's taken me a few months but I finally got here.

It's a TEEEEENY literal hole in the wall in the East village with maybe 3 little booth-like seats for 2 people. Their menu has about 4 things on it.

I ordered the veggie burger. You can order it vegan or vegetarian and I think the only difference is their bread option and cheese. The burger is SO small. Literally the size of the charging block for an Apple laptop. I was NOT aware and only ordered one but also got a side of fries from Moonstruck eatery (very good) so I was fine. If you're hungry- definitely get two. It's on a potato like bun with some lettuce, pickles, muenster and a spicy sauce that is delicious and was compared to In n Out sauce if you've ever been- I have not. I think the burger may be quinoa, and it had some mushrooms and such.

THE VEGGIE BURGER IS NOT GLUTEN FREE!!!!! Sad day for my roommate but was great regardless (sorry girl)

Definitely try this place. It will probably become my next on-the-run meal spot.

  2. First off, I am an omnivore with vegan/vegetarian friends so I whole-heartedly love trying out different food places that are flexible for people with dietary restrictions! Having said that, I didn't really LOVE my experience here. It's a quaint little shop with four single seating areas along the right wall where you have a pull out tray to eat on alongside three other people. Then there is another seating booth by the window with room for two (small) people. The line goes out the door during busy hours and it's kind of uncomfortable.

The burgers are white castle sized, maybe a little bigger, but they're definitely not filling on their own unless you are a 5 year old child. I tried the regular superiority burger and my friend got the sloppy joe so I was able to have a taste of both. The regular one was very mustard-tasting and seemed to be made of quinoa and other blended vegetables. You can get it without cheese and have it vegan which is a great option to have. I liked the flavors but with the potato bun it was on it fell apart really easily.

The sloppy joe is tofu/tomato based on a sesame bun. It was sloppy like its name says so be careful about getting it on your clothes haha. I didn't like it at all, it seemed like something a college kid would make when trying to scrap together dinner (pasta sauce + tofu + some hot sauce). I would probably go with the original burger!

I waited about 10 minutes for my food while my friend waited like 25 minutes, it was a bit excessive and I felt bad. I don't think I would come back but I'm glad I tried it once, I definitely don't believe the hype about this place but it was worth a try.

  3. Pretty decent for a veggie burger but it's kind of pricy for the size.

Also it's inexplicable they don't have fries. The lack of pairing makes the burger feel incomplete and sad.

  4. What's that saying? Good things come in small packages? I think this describes Superiority burger well.

Tiny shop, tiny seats, petit burgers packed with powerful flavor. Vegan/vegetarian burgers with griddled muenster, shredded iceberg, tomato, and dill and lots of mustard. I also got a burnt broccoli salad since they don't offer fries, which ended up being a nice side. The red chile gives it somewhat of a kick and honey roasted cashews balance it out.

Overall, good experience. I can probably eat 3 of these little guys in one sitting tho.

  5. The burgers are good, but the portion makes them more like sliders than burgers. The patty's very tender and tastes like it's packed with nutritious ingredients (I sure hope it indeed is). It also holds together a lot better and tastes juicier than most veggie burgers I've had. With that said, you can clearly see some of the grains (quinoa?) otherwise unseen in other burgers so you know you're getting a wholesome food. The broccoli salad has a tart kick to it thanks to the vinegar, and the nuts make it crunchy. Since I've for the most part given up refined carbs, next time I may order two of the burgers since they're so small and throw out the buns, with a broccoli salad. That would be a reasonable meal size and gives an idea of how small the "burgers" actually are.

The place is tiny and barely has any standing room so I can see how any line would go out the door. Four of us managed to sit down on a bench with sliding tables by the wall. You can also directly look into the small kitchen space right behind the counter and how they prepare the food. Most people wait outside after ordering and they bring your food out.

I would probably come back if in the neighborhood and the line isn't too crazy. There are a couple of daily specials but otherwise the small menu on the wall only offers a handful of options (I'll probably get the burger and salad again anyway). It may be helpful if you're bringing to a place to sit down eat right after since seating's so limited.

  6. Disclaimer: I'm a huge fan of veggie burgers. So, don't read this review as someone who is looking for a veggie burger that will trick you into thinking you're eating meat. That's not my move with veggie burgers. And these burgers? Delicious. Packed with flavor and good texture that holds together relatively well for a veggie burger. The sauce is creamy and pairs well with the patty. The bread is soft, perfect for a veggie burger as to not squish it too much as you bite down (other veggie burger eaters will hear where I'm coming from on this one). I also tried the broccoli salad which has a strong smoky and almost meaty flavor. It was a little strong for me, however the blackened element of the broccoli was delicious. It was the creamy and, in my opinion, overly smoky sauce that was a little too much for me. We also tried a chard salad and a slaw, both that I liked very much. The chard had crunchy and slightly sweet peanuts and the slaw had candied coconut shavings that were delicious. So, all said, my big problem, and why I only give them stars, is the size of the burgers. They're not a burger sized burger. They're not sliders either, but, they're pretty darn close. It's a generous slider but a pretty sad burger. I felt like I need two, and I'm not a huge eater. So, know that coming in and load up on sides, or maybe even split a second burger with a friend. I loved the burger and all the sides, everything was delicious and had complex flavors, but it's not the big burger experience you're looking for (even for the vegetarians out there). Will I be back? Yes, I think another chance is deserved. I mean, everything tasted amazing. There's also a tofu/rice wrap that I have my eye on… And that vegan ice cream.

  7. Great flavors and very satisfying. Craving a sandwich, I stopped by on a Friday night with a vegetarian friend.
Super small location with just a few seats inside. Ambiance is a bit industrial, good is definitely much more sophisticated than the look of the place!
Ordered the superiority burger anda side of potato salad. The potato salad was very light and tasted clean ( less mayo, lots of dill and some cucumber) — refreshing for a humid summer night! Sandwich was surprisingly delicious – it is very small ( funny allusion to a White Castle burger) but it packs a punch! Not only are there layers of flavors ( amazing sauces) but the party itself had a great texture Ahmed flavor– well done and so wonderful!

Will definitely stop by again for an overall amazing burger/sandwich. Staff was super nice and accommodating but not out of the way friendly.

  8. Took my mom here because it's completely vegetarian. The burgers are great, but they are pretty small for $6. If you're hungry you'll definitely need to order a side. Get the broccoli salad!
