I suppose my true rating is 2.5 stars but cannot bump Sushi Cruise up to 3, so 2 it is. The food overall is just ok at best. The avocado salad was served with avocado that was not ripe enough to eat, you needed a fork and knife to cut a piece off and then chewing it was a whole other process….yuck. The ginger dressing is super chunky, the consistency of it freaked me out, not a fan. My Philadelphia roll with fresh salmon was alright but I've definitely had wayyyy better Philly rolls. The pieces were small and just had a blain taste. The only part of the meal that I would say was "good" was the friend shrimp goyza. These we're pretty tasty and I enjoyed eating them.
I saw in another review someone mentioned the staff was "curt" and I agree. Our waitress was the total oppoisite of friendly and welcoming, she was short, somewhat rude and also not attentive. Poor food and service, I don't think I'll be rushing back here anytime soon. One compliment I would like to point out though is the pretty view of the city. Sushi Cruise has a great piece of real estate, its right on the water and you really can't beat the view.
The biggest thing this sushi spot has going for it is the atmosphere and great staff. You can eat right on the water. However I didn't love the food. The sushi rolls were OK but the appetizer beef roll (the name escapes me) tasted like a rolled up steak-um.
Overall wasn't too impressed.
Sorry Sushi Cruise but a lot of what I ordered here I have had in other sushi locations that exceeds taste, presentation, and overall experience.
I could tell my friend was disappointed from the start. As an app we ordered the steamed shrimp dumplings which came out cold. The sushi we ordered tasted like sushi you would get in a take home box from A&P. The ingredients were falling out the minute you picked up the sushi. The freshness was missing.
We both felt rushed and with the meal we had we didn't mind leaving.
How have I not reviewed this place yet? I used to come here every Friday afternoon for two months straight two summers ago, LOL. But since then, I've discovered Yelp and expanded my horizons to other restaurants and cuisines. Go me!
Sushi Cruise has a great lunch special that allows you to pay per plate and try different rolls. When I went 2-3 months ago, it was $1.85 per plate but when I first started frequenting this place two years ago, the price per plate was only $1.25. With the increase in price, I don't really consider their lunch special much of a deal anymore but on a positive note, you can still try multiple rolls during lunch for the same price that you'd pay for 1-2 full special rolls during dinner.
The number of pieces on each plate during lunch varies. You get 4 pieces per plate for regular rolls (California, spicy tuna, etc.), 3 pieces per plate for Mexican and Volcano rolls, and 2 pieces per plate for specialty rolls listed on the paper (not all the specialty rolls on the menu are listed on the lunch menu).
– FOOD RECOMMENDATIONS: I always get their miso soup, but it's nothing special. I highly recommend the Fuji (FAVORITE!), Florida, Tiger, and Manhattan rolls. Their other specialty rolls are tasty too, but those 4 are my ride-or-dies! Their green tea fried ice cream is great too and the scoop of ice cream is huge.
– VIEW: It's beautiful and overlooks the Hudson and the skyline. Plus there's outdoor seating that allows you to enjoy the view even more when it's warm out!
– SERVICE: Slow. It isn't too bothersome if you're taking your time catching up with a friend, but it may be an issue for people coming in for a quick lunch.
– PARKING: Sushi Cruise is located in a strip mall, so there's plenty of parking.
– BYOB!!!
I've taken at least 10 different friends here and they all love it as much as I do. Give it a try!
This location has a quaint outside patio overlooking NYC which is lovely on a nice day.
Sushi Cruise is an inexpensive place to grab some sushi and has plenty of variations of rolls and such. The sushi isn't superb but it's really good for its price.
Location is BYOB which is awesome for those nights you don't want to spend so much money and still have a nice dinner.
Being the only sushi restaurant in the area, rest assured that Sushi Cruise is a solid spot and will not disappoint.
Honestly it is pricy, even for a Japanese spot. Having take out from this place isn't really worth it because the price factors in the service and the view.
That being said the food is pretty good. I had the bulgogi, chicken, spider roll, California and cucumber roll. The last two are extract like anywhere else. The spider roll isn't as big as the standard one but tastes the same.
The bulgogi is pretty good, not too saucy, not dry either. The sides are limited, the bed of onion is nice but they also give literally one slice of carrot, one head of broccoli, and one head of a cauliflower.
The chicken is also pretty nice, juicy but well cooked, same sides.
Soup is slightly sour but very drinkable and doesn't taste like it came from a cheap box.
Salad is ok, really not special at all but a good way to clean your palate after the meal.
If your gunna pay a hundred bucks for a meal, stay in there and enjoy the service and view. If you want a take out spot, look somewhere else. Plenty of places around with better prices and comparable food.
I have heard great things about Sushi Cruise, but it's just been an overall okay experience for me. I've tried this restaurant twice – customer service has been excellent but their sushi has been… a disappointment.. why do your rolls fall apart so easily! And I can't say their ingredients taste very fresh.
Beautiful view if you sit outdoors and it's BYOB. Weeeee! Their green tea ice cream with the baked shell, yaaaas. I'm sorry I forgot the name. Mixed reviews, three stars!
This place is located in a shopping plaza in edgewater, pretty difficult finding parking close to it but their is plenty of room by trader joe! …first impressions as I walked in was, nice effin view of the Hudson River! Like literally view is amazing, so I asked to be seated with the amazing view at a table in the back…man the deals on a view peices of sushi was amazing, it was like $1.85 2/4 peices depending on the type…go check out the photo list of what I ordered hahaha, it might of been a little toooo much because I couldn't finish it. The food was fresh and amazingly made, I mean my plate came and what a work of art it was…tasted as good as it looked, JUST A HEADS UP…even though my waiter packed me my left overs, usually they don't let you go home with a doggybag of left over food at lunch time, but it was my first time so I got lucky! Lol..total was about $46, you know idc the price as long as I get what I paid for which is awesome food, with great service, and I left with a full tummy….a must try if you are a sushi head #fatboyproblems #eatgoodfeelgood
