I order takeout from Sushi Sushi about once a month and have only tried two rolls: Spicy Delight and Seafood Lover.
– Seafood Lover Roll –
Oily and sweet, like fries and ketchup. While I like fries and ketchup once in awhile, this roll made me feel like I was eating a fried dessert.
– Spicy Delight –
This is the one roll I order each month. I like fish and avocado. But this roll smelled like ***windex with a bit of bleach*** the last time I ordered it (on Tues 8/2). I felt mildly nauseous for a few hours after I (stupidly) ate this roll.
– Ingredient: Rice –
It's usually overcooked and under-seasoned.
– Ingredient: Fish –
Sometimes the chefs don't cut the fish at a proper angle and the taste doesn't come through and/or the fish looks beaten and tenderized.
– Ingredient: Sauces –
Lots of sauce, to me, usually means compensating for lack of flavor or something bad.
– Takeout vs Dine In –
No one ever eats here. There are tables set up, but 1-2 tables is usually used by the employee who waits for delivery orders. And though the interior appears clean, sometimes it smells like a just-bleached bathroom.
Fresh, standard American sushi rolls. The creative-type rolls that hide an amateur sushi chef, but taste great all the same.
Props to this place for including multiple vegetarian items, and even 2 special/signature veggie rolls – I love a place that keeps its vegetarian friends in mind, although I am not one of them.
It can take awhile because they usually only have 1 or 2 guys rolling the sushi. And I have never had a friendly cashier, but hey, it is what it is. I'm there for the cheap rolls, not the service!
Lastly, they offer "sashimi grade" fish by the lb. The roomie and I are considering checking this out as the prices are pretty good.
I've been to sushi sushi more times that I can count. The food is fresh and tasty, but as the months have gone by, the prices have increased steadily. This I completely understand, increased costs etc etc.
What I don't understand is the lack of a tiered pricing system for rolls and especially the rice bowls. A cucumber roll probably shouldn't cost the same as a tuna roll. Even worse, the rice bowls now sit at $17. A few pieces of tofu and tofu skin with a pretty slim amount of vegetables shouldn't cost the same as a bowl topped with Salmon or Tuna. For $17, the veggie bowl should be more than two tiny slices of avocado, 2 tips of asparagus and tofu. Either tier the prices based on what you add to your bowl, or make it worth the money.
Aside from this issue, of the countless times I've picked up food, i have had countless experiences of missing items, specifically whatever sauce comes with said rice bowl. If I didn't check the bag, I'd probably have to walk back 2 out or 3 times to get what was missing.
All this is very unfortunate because the staff is always cordial and friendly, but I'm not sure if it's all worth it anymore.
I order sushi for delivery more often than I'd like to admit. I've ordered from a couple places in Harlem and they have been nothing but positive experiences. When my order arrived from Sushi Sushi it was prompt which was great. The delivery guy didn't seem to care that he was holding everything sideways but you know, whatever.
When I opened the container I was immediately greeted with a fishy smell–never pleasant when you're eating raw fish. And I noticed the container was slightly warm. When I had the first piece of my yellow tail and scallion roll I could immediately tell that the fish was warmer than room temp. I could tell that the yellowtail wasn't the freshest, but the salmon was and so was the tuna and striped bass sushi that I got. All of it was warmer than room temp.
I called the restaurant and was on the phone for almost 10 minutes to finally have the girl say that she checked my order herself, they've never had this complaint from anyone else so it could not be possible.
Well lady, it was. She then took my number down and said the manager would call back. Which he did but at that point I'd had a long day and the last thing I wanted was to talk to someone who was going to insist that there was nothing wrong with the order. I eventually just said whatever I had to to get off the phone and ended up spending 30 bucks on sushi I didn't eat.
Needless to say I will never order from this place again solely based on the fact that they have horrible customer service. Although if their plan is to never have to refund a customer by exasperating them so you just want them to shut up, they are succeeding.
This is the most awesome sushi place! Get the yellow taxi roll and you will be oh so happy. Shrimp, mango , jalapeño heaven!
I wish I would have liked the sushi here, but they were so disappointing. The sushi from Geisha Sushi's was better.
We ordered a few rolls here, and got the free strawberry nutella roll for checking in. The rolls were too mushy for me, and the quality of the fish were very questionable. Portions were really small, and it didn't taste that great. The strawberry nutella roll was nothing memorable as well. I don't think I will order from here again. I will stick to ordering from Geisha's even if it is a bit more expensive than Sushi Sushi.
This is definitely not a $ restaurant. I paid nearly $20 for two signature rolls. I had dinosaur rolls and salmon rolls. Both were surprisingly delicious, which compensated my bad feeling about paying much more than I expected. They used to have check-in free Nutella rolls. I may come back if they bring that back :p
Great value for your money! It's by no means a fancy sit down place. But after a day on campus or at work, this place hits the spot. Eat some yummy sushi, enjoy the free wifi
High quality fish, well made rolls, good prices. I've had the vegetarian rolls here and they are fantastic! Highly recommend the veggie lovers.
Haven't tried the dessert rolls yet – but if you check in you get a free one! I'll be coming back for sure.
