Since I am new to the North Caldwell area, I love my sushi and was craving a good sushi spot. Luckily for me this place is right around the corner from my condo so I can easily get to it! I ordered my usual Alaska Roll and drove over. The restaurant is very clean and staff were friendly. I know a good roll from a bad one and this was delicious! I get excited every time I order sushi because it is so darn addicting! I am so glad this place is close to me! They have a private parking lot so you can walk over to the place. I can't wait to try other menu items here! I really should expand my palate! I will keep you all updated for any new rolls I purchase!
Came here for dinner and i was pleasantly surprised. All you can eat sushi- What?
I mean you have as many apps, sushi rolls, desserts, whatever your heart desires!!! And its actually tasty and fresh… I was very happy here.
BYOB which is another plus.
This is definitely my type of place!!
I've noticed that there are a number of these all-you-can-eat sushi places around these days and I still don't know if a) I'm getting my money's worth and b) if I'm really as big a fan as I think I am.
Wifey and I had a couple hours the other night after we dropped our kids off at their respective Friday night activities and we decided to just drive and find a place to eat. As we swung around Willowbrook Mall into Little Falls we saw Sushi Village and Wifey suggested we give it a shot. Friday night, packed parking lot – it's gotta be good…right?
After a short wait we were seated up by the sushi bar and put in our order…in case you don't know how this works, they give you a paper menu to choose your items, you check off your choices and the waitress brings the paper to the kitchen and sushi bar. They were pretty quick here getting us our food. You don't have to order everything in round one-you can ask for another menu if you're still hungry.
Items of note:
Side salad was just some iceberg lettuce (boring) with ginger dressing (tasty).
Kani salad had nothing but Kani and it was like getting seafood salad in the supermarket.
Tempura was nicely done – very light and not overdone.
Korean rib bites were really tasty – loved them
Edamame were done perfectly and weren't too salty.
Single pieces of sushi were small, but nice single bite servings. Nothing wasted here, but nothing you can't get anywhere else.
Rolls were all pretty good (sorry, I don't remember the names of the ones we got), but we got one with jalapeño that, while tasty, was a little too spicy for Wifey.
I also ordered a hand roll that was just ok…just a bit too much avocado.
Finally, we topped off the meal with red bean and green tea ice cream. Both were very flavorful and a nice finish to a big meal.
The decor and seating are a little dated here-in fact my booth seat needed to be replaced as the springs in it are shot. The place is clean-very clean, but just looks a little old on the inside. Waitresses were very attentive, got us our food quickly, refilled our drinks a number of times and even though the bill came quickly we didn't feel pushed out. Friday night meal came to $21.99 a person, less than we would have spent at our local sushi place, but I think I still prefer it to these all-you-can-eat places. Parking lot here is small and exiting can be a bit of a nightmare, but that just could have been our timing.
We walked away from our little date quite full and we're happy we found the place. Overall I'd say it was a good meal, but I think we'd probably find something on-par or better, especially for the price, closer to home. There's no reason I wouldn't try this place again of I was in the area.
I was so so so excited to come here. I love AYCE sushi. Idk if this is a chain restaurant because I've also been to a Sushi Village in Westwood which was an amazing experience. Everything is very fresh and quick and the price is pretty good. The service was prompt and professional. The inside is pretty funky and nice with lights that change color. The booths even have draping over them to make it super special.
They offer a lot on the menu. We ordered lots of apps before we got our sushi, which I regret cause I was super full by the time we got our sushi. We got the calamari, yakitori, and seaweed salad. The seaweed salad was soooo good, I got it in regular and spicy. I recommended the regular cause the spicy is just spicy mayo mixed with seaweed salad.
We got at least 8 rolls of sushi and I think they missed that we ordered the Pink Lady Roll but it's ok cause we could barely finish what we had. My favorite roll was the Butterfly roll because it's wrapped in yellow soy paper and topped with a yummy mango sauce. I also liked the rainbow roll and caterpillar roll. The deep fried roll was not a fav.
The red snapper sashimi was something new that I tried and I liked.
For dessert, the red bean & green tea ice cream was ok(I've had better) but the Oreo Tempura tho…. that is a must to order at least once, even if you are a health freak. It is so freaking good!
This is the second type of all-you-can-eat sushi places that I've gone to (the first being Sushi Palace in Somerville) that you pick what sushi you want and it is served to you. I definitely thought that the selection at Sushi Village was a bit lacking. They have you usual rolls and simple "sashimi" like salmon and squid but nothing more than that. Their special rolls all have something spicy, which was an issue because I went with someone who couldn't take spicy.
That being said, their sushi was made pretty well. The tuna wasn't super fresh but you can tell they go through salmon enough that it's pretty fresh.
Overall, if you want to get your sushi fix in the area, this is a pretty good deal. It was only about $19 per person on for weekday dinner per person. Their green tea ice cream is also to die for. Tempura Oreos are also on point. Sushi's alright but good if you wanna get your sushi on.
You really can't beat the price for AYCE. The portions are definitely manageable and the AYCE applies to sushi, sashimi, kitchen appetizers, and desserts. Though this place doesn't have any amazing rolls, they are really good and always consistently fresh and tasty.
Menu looks better than it is in reality, cheap rolls, made of cheap fish, with lots of avocados and spicy mayo, which makes it tasty. In reality one does not make a roll that way, but at that price you get what you pay for, at this AYCE sushi place. Last I went there, they served rolls with avocado that was not even ripe, but hard. The staff is very friendly, all Chinese women, very helpful and attentive. BYOB. From M-T dinner are under $25. So you can stuff yourself with lots of rice and cheap fish. But this is not sashimi or sushi heaven, for that you need to go to Manhattan and bring lots of bucks. Or try a place like Nikko Hibachi Steakhouse & Lounge a mile away on rte 46 west. Parking is easy and you can park around as well.
I've visited Sushi Village a few times now and always debated about the number of stars to give them. Well, after my last visit I would truly give them at 2.5, but I guess I would settle with a 3.
Lets start off with that I made reservations for 8 people plus 2 kids for 7pm and that apparently that was difficult in itself. They called me once to make sure they had the correct information and then the day of when some of the party showed up they were still confused as to how many people were going to be there.
They placed us in a private room since we were a large party which was great because at least we had some privacy but it almost felt like they placed us there and forgot us. For the most part everyone who was having dinner there was there for the first time so we wanted to have at least 2 paper menus so we can submit one for ordering. The waitress would not let us have more than one. I guess she thought we would give her more than one order at the time which was not the case. It was like literally pulling teeth in order to get a second piece of paper so we can all order rolls.
Once we were finally able to get a second copy placing our order was even harder. They took our app order and forgot to come back for our sushi roll order. This continued to happen the rest of the night. It was so ridiculous that we couldn't get service or our food at a decent time. I've continued to give this place a try and after our last visit I feel like I just may be done with coming here. They have decent sushi but the service is just never good at least in my 3 experiences here.
