My friend told me about this place, and how they have all-you-can-eat only on Sunday. We wanted sushi, and gave this a try. We noticed that the biggest difference was that all special rolls were an extra 2 dollars per roll. Usually special rolls are included but i assume they don't cut quality.
Another big thing is that they don't have sashimi. So with the rolls and sushi, you're consuming a lot of rice! But quality of sushi and the cooked food were above average and staff was extremely nice. Portions are a little on the generous side, so be cautious of ordering too much. Hibachi is part of the menu too.
It's not your typical AYCE sushi deal on Sundays, but it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be.
Okay food for hibachi. Overly oily and salty yet not much else going on with flavor.
Service, however, was excellent. I was with a group of 7 for a birthday and my boyfriend and I shared one hibachi entree and 2 sushi rolls. Somehow, my boyfriend still got the hibachi treatment with the soup, salad, noodles and a decent portion of scallops. Server was also very friendly and attentive, though the place was very empty on a Wednesday evening.
Pretty good food. Not overly salty. Went to get hibachi with my family for my sisters high school graduation. A few in the group are vegetarian, and were very accommodating with us. We got a ton of sushi, and different entries. Everything was quite good. Staff was really great.
Today was the first time I ate here. My friend raved to me about how good this place is so we decided to go after a day of studying. The staff was very friendly when we walked in. I ordered the Boston and Philadelphia roll. My friend ordered the Shrimp tempura roll and spicy tuna roll. All the rolls tasted fresh and delicious ! The servers kept refilling my water which is always a plus since I drink a lot of water. I haven't tried the hibachi part of the restaurant yet.
This place is fantastic. The staff is super friendly. Every time i come in its like being greeted by family. The food is fantastic. I've never had a bad experience here. I love love their sushi menu. It's large so even a sushi novice can find something they'll enjoy. I recommend the monster roll. Yum! And their bento boxes are great because you get a bit of everything.
The Quick: Owned by the same owners of sushi ya in garden city, the Classic go to sushi spot in the cute "Main Street" area of town, nothing outstanding but always good food. This location has a good all you can eat special on Sunday's. Solid 3.5 stars.
The Details: The food is always good, the owners are extremely friendly, and the all you can eat special on Sunday's is pretty good. The venue is nothing extravagant or special, and the food is pricey, but we always enjoy it. The sushi is always good and the lunch special is very reasonable. Nothing extraordinary, but I always return every once in a while.
The Damage: A little pricey especially for the fancy rolls, which is to expected for sushi. I prefer the other location.
Ever since my favorite Sushi place Minami of Massapequa started to "suck" (see my previous reviews), I've been on a mission searching for a replacement. I accidentally discovered Sushi Ya (or Hibachi Sushi Ya) when I wanted to take my son to a teppanyaki (hibachi) styled place for fun (yeah I know, it's about as authentic Japanese as an Irishman named Giuseppe). I refused to go to Benihana, and Sushi Ya came highly recommended by fellow Yelpers. The staff is extremely friendly and the food is fresh. In addition the chef is innovative and is not afraid of creating atypical dishes. We had this crunch thin tortilla topped with tuna and cucumber purée that was heavenly. And to top it off, they make a delicious and mean lychee Martini. So why not 5 stars? Well it was my first time there and I felt compelled enough to write a review, so please don't push it…perhaps after a few consistent meals I will update this review. Enjoy.
What this place is:
– excellent sushi and friendly service
– creative fusion dishes
– awesome cocktail
– decent Teppanyaki and performance
What this place isn't:
– fancy
– expensive
– tourist trap
– decor of the month (sorry)
I went to Hibachi Sushi Ya for my brother's 21st birthday dinner. 5 out of our 6-person group ordered hibachi, but I was craving food from the regular menu and went with that instead (they were super accommodating). The hibachi crowd started out with soup and salad before "the show." While our hibachi master, Charlie, was cooking, I wolfed down my chicken dumplings, chicken skewers w/ peanut sauce, and sweet potato tempura roll. I enjoyed each of my dishes, but was expecting the dumplings to be steamed not fried and the chicken skewers were a little more oily than I prefer. Watching the food being made was very entertaining. Charlie squirted sake into everyone's mouth, took our picture for the wall, and even brought my brother a special fried ice cream dessert. For good food, friendly servers, and a fun experience, give Hibachi Sushi Ya a try!
