  1. I'm giving this 4 stars. Like the people below me, I too wavered between giving 3 or 4 stars.

But ya know what! This is Washington Heights and this is the only sushi around thats worth getting. I can't speak for delivery but the in-house dining made me a fan. I was hesitant at first to try this place out but am so glad I did. I ordered a New York roll and it was humongous (It was one of those BIG rolls) but it was wrapped really well. My friends ordered rolls that were smothered in sauces, which isn't my thing but both of them loved their orders.

Much more of a neighborhood joint than anything else, but I'll take it – this girl needs a place for her sushi fix.

  2. I've only had take out here. I usually stick to the sushi rolls. All the tuna rolls I've had here are very good, but the salmon is not as good.

The sashimi is good quality, but overpriced. If you are in Washington Heights, this is probably your best option, all the other sushi places are very inconsistent so you are playing Russian roulette hoping you catch them on a good day.

Overall, this would do in a pinch if you are craving sushi… but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

  3. A bit overpriced for mediocre sushi. Let me first say, I've never had sushi delivered! My boyfriend and I wanted a quiet Friday night at our place so we stayed in. We reluctantly ordered from Sushi Yu since it's the only sushi place that delivers in the area. We immediately noticed rolls were more expensive than other official sushi restaurants we've visited. Isn't this place kinda fast food sushi? That doesn't add up. Also, they didn't have Eel Avocado rolls on the menu which is my favorite roll. Bummer!

I ordered the Christmas Roll ($12.95) which was actually delicious. However, the Spicy Tuna and Spicy Salmon were hard to differentiate and just ok while the Salmon Mango roll was decent. Sushi Yu is nothing to rave about but will probably satisfy your craving. Our total was $42, at this price we probably should've just gone to Geisha Sushi instead. They are cheaper and much better quality.

  4. Ehhh….this place kind of blows.

    – NO type of atmosphere.
    – Servers showed no emotion, they acted like robots.
    – NO music? WTH? I heard myself breathing.

The sushi was very, very blah. Spicy Tuna tasted like it was wet gum stuck under my shoe. The 2 roll lunch special for $10 is NO WAY worth it.

Honestly, I feel like my lunch was worth $2. I just gave them a crisp $10 for the hell of it.

Oh well, next time I'll know to keep on walking.

  5. $32, including tax and tip, for Sushi and Sashimi Combination (for one)?! A disappointment, for sure. The fish was okay, nothing special, but it was literally the same thing over and over, again and again. Tuna roll, tuna nigiri, tuna sashimi. Salmon nigiri, salmon sashimi. Yellowtail nigiri, yellowtail sashimi. Mackerel nigiri, mackerel sashimi. And there was one piece of shrimp. Oh joy! Oh rapture!

When I order a Sushi and Sashimi Combination, I expect that there won't be a lot of redundancy. Is it a lot to ask, hoping that there is a little bit of everything, rather than just a lot of the same? This is what I always order when trying out a Sushi restaurant for the first time, that way I can know what I like best and what I like least, so I know what to order and what to not order next time I come back. Well, unfortunately, I just can't see myself coming back any time soon. No eel? No fluke? No octopus? No giant clam? No scallop? No sea urchin? Not even a single piece of tamago, as a simple gesture of generosity?

This is Washington Heights, not TriBeCa. Seriously, $32 for a few pieces of fish? Ooh, some pieces were cut horizontally. Wow, some pieces were cut vertically. Such innovation! Such inspiration! Captivating! Mesmerizing! If this is the best sushi in Washington Heights, then I'll just have to fight my cravings until I can go elsewhere.

  6. Solid place — Nabeyaki udon that doesn't taste like it came straight out of a plastic pouch, plus sashimi that's fresh and not overly iced. I only order delivery from them, so I'm not sure how good the actual place is, but it all checks out.

  7. Came here for the first time with a friend and had a great experience. The sushi was good and delicious. Glad I was able to find a good sushi spot in the heights for whenever I am around with friends and can stop by. I had the Alaska roll and spicy tuna roll and it was delicious. Was here for lunch so I got miso soup and salad with my two rolls. Definitely worth it. Would definitely recommend and will be back.

  8. Originally I was going to give this place 3 stars, but after debating it with my roommate I am going to give this neighborhood joint 4 stars. Why you may ask? Well probably for the most important reason that this is the only decent sushi in the Washington heights area that I can walk to in order to get my sushi fix. Another reason that this place gets a star is because they give you edamame for free when you dine in the restaurant and for dessert they give you a bowl of pineapple. I do love free things.

My friends and I went on a Saturday evening and the place was actually pretty crowded, so this was a good sign. The menu had really good options, especially on the specialty maki, which is why it gets another star. I ended up ordering the bamboo roll and the salmon avocado mango roll. Both were excellent choices. My bamboo roll is a riceless roll, which was an interesting option since I've never had sushi without rice. It was really good. All of the textures mixed nicely together and the fish was pretty good quality. My other roll was very simple, but was packed well in the roll and tasted great. My friends definitely got some good looking rolls too. One had the amazing roll, which I will definitely have to try sometime soon and the other got the New York roll, which was really large in size, but looked great because the tuna looked quality and it was packed good so things weren't falling out.

I would probably give this a more 3.5 star, but that isn't possible. However given that this neighborhood isn't the best when it comes to quality food options, I am happy to give the 4 star. It will definitely be my go to neighborhood sushi place when I'm having a craving.
