  1. By far this place is still my favorite for sushi and japanese dishes. Although I hadn't been here in quite awhile,  sigh. Too far from me now but good for special  occasions.  I've been going to this quaint soho looking restaurant  since they have opened. The staff has changed thru the years as far as servers which in my opinion hurts the business. They are not nice and usually not that great at their job.
Okay on to the food…we ordered lots of food and as a yelper "my inner fat girl" did emerge into a happy dance shuffle. We started off with gyozas (my son's fave) then on to volcano, pepper Tuna tataki, and dual mountain. The flavors and oh yes!!! FRESH FRESH  FISH!!!
We continued with 3 rolls; spicy king crab, lobster king roll, KENJI FUSION (of course)
As for dinner Tuna steak with stir fried vegetables and sauce on the side. Delicious and mouth watering. My son wanted miso soup so he got a big bowl of piping hot soup.
To end this delightful  meal we ordered fried banana with chocolate ice cream omg melt in your mouth deliciousness. So if your ever in the area definitely  a place to Check out. They're food never disappoints and is always fresh. Didn't need soy sauce or Wasabi..they have an awesome lunch menu.

  2. Whether you love SushiO or not will depend on how many other places you've tried in the area. I couldn't wait to try it based off other people calling it a "hidden gem". But after going there myself, I'm sad to say that I just didn't agree.

If you're priority is a nice ambiance, Aja which is only a few minutes away will blow you away with their decor. If you're interested in getting the best tasting  sushi, Midori Sushi (Highland Park & Piscataway) is my favorite. With that said, Sushi-O is a good combination of the two. Although I wasn't obsessed with their ambiance or service, I still really enjoyed both! Plus it's BYOB.

The service impressed me the most. All the servers were peppy and seemed genuinely excited to do their job, which isn't too common these days. My party bought two bottles of wine and without even asking a random server came over with a huge smile on his face and added some wine to my glass. He didn't even realize that he mixed the two different types of wines in my glass…hahaha. Either way, I didn't even care because I loved the service so much!

Beware of the menu– my entire table took like 15-20 minutes just trying to decide what order. There's loads of specialty roll options! Take a look at the menu in advance if you're planning to stop in.  Here's what I tried:

Avocado Salad- I couldn't believe how much I loved this simple salad! It comes with a sliced avocado on top and ginger dressing. I shared it with my table, but regret not ordering one for myself.

Seaweed Salad- when a salad of half seaweed, half iceberg lettuce showed up at my table my immediate reaction: what the heck is this?? The seaweed part was tasty, but was killed anytime I got a forkful of iceberg lettuce mixed in.

Spicy King Crab Roll- I really enjoyed this roll! I ate up all 8 pieces and still wished that I had some more.

Avocado- I was so overwhelmed with all the speciality options that I played it safe and ordered an avocado roll. No complaints!

Ultimately, I plan to give SushiO another chance. Since so many other Elites love it, I would like to see if my opinion changes if I return. And I definitely wouldn't stop anyone from giving SushiO a try!

  3. This is a super old review that I never got around to finishing. Note that my visit was almost 2 years ago.

"Food is 3.5 stars but service ups it to 4. Wife's birthday – comped ice cream w candle and singing and gong staff serenade."

  4. Visited this place for one of my friends' birthday dinner.

We loved the restaurant's interior and the ambiance. The lighting made the restaurant seem very fancy, and the private table booth made us feel more intimate and cozy.

We ordered something special: a sushi boat. I have to say  that the sushi boat's plating was one of the most appetizing sushi-plating I've ever seen- our sushis were beautifully & appetizingly arranged!!! On top of its beauty, the foods were excellent as well! The sashimi was really fresh, the rolls tasted amazing, and the food content was excellent. (I've been to several sushi places where the rolls are composed mostly with rice- like the rolls didn't really have the contents).

With regards to the menu, they had a great number of special rolls available in a very reasonable price!

  5. This restaurant is kind of hidden but the inside is adorable! I came here for lunch and was surprised by the different choices on the menu and the prices! Everything was less than $10 and they even had an option where you can order Thai iced tea for an additional $1.50 with your lunch. I ordered a sushi bento box and a came with miso soup and salad. The crab salad it came with was good and the edamame was nice and warm! I definitely want to come back and try their other lunch specials. Everything was pretty fresh and for the price, it was definitely worth it!

  6. We are a regular here for many years and it always hits the spot. Their sushi is generous and at a fair price. Their fried rice is good but a bit salty. Sashimi deluxe is big and has a good assortment of fish. The servers are nice and ambiance is casual. Overall, I recommend this place for a first date or a family meal.

  7. Great food, ambiance and service!
The waiter was extremely courteous and friendly. He was extremely knowledgable about the menu and maintained a conversation regarding his favorite items on the menu. Definitely will recommend this place to others and definitely is on top of my list of places to eat at.

  8. You know, I've been to a lot of sushi places in the state of New Jersey and this is one always nice to go too. The decor is sleek, modern, dark, but has an almost a club vibe.

There's always someone to welcome you. After my date and I left, there were people waiting.

Definitely check this place out for lunch and dinner. It can get pretty expensive if you order a lot. But remember this, every roll I've had, has been astonishing. DELICIOUS.

I recommend the bento boxes! So much food for a great price!
