  1. I've been on the hunt for the best sushi delivery on the UES, and I think Suzu has topped the list!

Their lunch specials are great – for $12.50 I got any 3 maki rolls + soup (a lot of places also offer salad as part of their special, but who cares about that anyway).  Delivery was prompt, and the rolls were fresh, sizeable and delicious. The spicy salmon and spicy tuna were especially good.

Definitely recommend if you're an UESider craving sushi but refuse to leave the house!

  2. There are so many sushi restaurants in the city so it can be hard to find one that has what you're looking for.

When I'm in the mood for sushi, I don't want the crappy rolls found in restaurants that cater towards tourists and I find myself unwilling to pay exponential amounts for some decent rolls at a more high-end establishment. I generally prefer plain sashimi over rolls, and unfortunately it can be difficult to find decent, not overpriced sashimi in the city!

In this case, I was able to get my sashimi fix without breaking the bank or sacrificing quality. I ordered the chirashi lunch special and I was very pleased. The fish was fresh and delicious and the serving was pretty generous as well.

Good sashimi. Fair price. No complaints here.

  3. Decent sushi in Manhattan. The lunch special are good deals.  Service as prompt.  I would definitely return here again.

  4. Had lunch here last Friday and was immediately seated right next to the front which was nice. It was still quite empty at 1:30pm which was surprising but soon afterward we sat, it started filling in fast. We ordered the lunch special 3 rolls for I think $12+ to start, a few bento box lunches, sashimi deluxe, the gift roll and the tempura. They got the sushi and other savory dishes right. Raw dishes were fresh. Service was also good. The only thing we were disappointed about was the dessert. The mochi ice cream looked like it came right out of the fridge, very badly presented, just cut into fours with a cherry on top. It looked the mochis looked like they were old and tasted like it, too. Reminded me of the ones you could buy at the Asian supermarket in Chinatown. The yokang which was like a jelly dessert made of red bean and green tea was also poorly presented on lettuce leaves. It was really an anticlimactic way to end a good meal. Hope they improve in that department.

  5. Went here on a Saturday afternoon after returning from a Home Depot run.  This is a smaller sushi establishment with a great lunch menu.  The location isn't the most convenient but if you're headed over to Bed Bath & Beyond or TJ Maxx, I would make a pit stop here, especially during lunch time.

I ordered their two roll combo for less than $10 and left feeling full.  It isn't often finding a sushi place that offers lunch during the weekend and Suzu Sushi didn't disappoint.  I don't know if I would go as a group more than 6- it's a bit small so once people started coming in, it started getting a bit noisier since the tables are very closely placed to each other.  (not uncommon by any means).

    Overall, I would definitely return.

  6. 5 stars in terms of bang for your buck. I love the way they properly do gyoza – not deep fried, but pan-fried with a lid on top to also do a partial steam. The edamame portion is generous, and the sushi is pretty decent. Now all I gotta do is stop foolin myself that all this gyoza I'm eating is healthy just because Japanese people live til 100.

  7. Ordered delivery from this place at 9:39pm – they called me around 10:00pm to say that they were too busy so they had to push back my delivery to 10:30pm. Kind of crazy how a restaurant could still be busy at that hour…I got the Sushi deluxe ($18.95 – a tuna roll, and 10 pieces of sushi), so not much prep involved at all.

Very standard take-out sushi place, nothing special. I'm pretty sure it's run by Chinese people as I heard them speaking Mandarin on the phone when they called (which is pretty common with Japanese take-out places in NYC). They definitely use the precut sashimi slices; rice was a bit on the hard side, hence the 3 star review.

  8. This place is very well-priced. The combos are a great deal for dinner.

    1. Katsu don: your classic fried pork cutlets over rice. Delicious and satisfying.

    2. Spicy tuna roll: pretty good, nothing amazing but decently priced at around $5. Nice and simple. The fish was decently fresh and had good flavor.

    3. Salmon teriyaki box: this came with a small side salad, miso soup, shrimp tempura, salmon, and a regular tuna roll.

Overall ambience is simple. Not really a romantic place, but it's cozy and comfortable.
