  1. I know past reviewers have complained about the line situation here but honestly, I have never seen such an efficient restaurant. The people working there listened to the customers and moved them through so rapidly. I got in line just outside the door and I think I was in the line for 7 minutes before I got to the front to give my order. It took them about 3-4 minutes to make my salad and an additional 3-4 minutes to get to the cashier and pay. I was there maybe 15 minutes tops. Perhaps they have improved this process since other reviewers have posted, or perhaps people in New York really live up to their reputation and truly can not wait for more than a a couple minutes before being helped.

The salad choices are fresh, unique, and far more gourmet than you might get at other salad places in the city. The ingredients used are fresh and healthy, the flavors are rich and tasty, and their takes on traditional salads are great. I loved the Rad Thai I ordered. I ordered mine with tofu instead (they had no issue with the substitution) and the flavor was amazing. The dressing was perfect with just the right amount of kick.

This place is a little pricier, but for what you are getting, in my opinion it is worth it. I would absolutely come back here. I also saw that people called their orders in and were just stopping by to pick them up. Smart!

  2. The first thing that caught my attention about this place (unmarked front) was that it was not flashy at all, despite the flashy contents of the menu. The place is the kind of organic-kale place that would have a beautiful, minimalist website with large photographs of their selections.

Their main thing is salad, but they also offer wild rice bowls and juices. You can make your own for the salads and bowls. The vibe is distinctly Tribeca in this location–it matches the price tag of the area. Technically, they're a chain, but the location's decorations made it feel boutique. I think that for the price, it could be even better, but I can see why it's worth the splurge. I had a salad with wild grains and arugula, (you can get 2 bases for free), and then 4 toppings for free(not enough toppings), plus avocado and baked falafel. The avocado was $1.25, and the falafel was $2. Cheeses count as premiums–shaved parm, feta, or cheddar–and are $1.25/each. I didn't get any cheese on my salad, but I don't think it could be so special and tasty as to warrant that much extra for something that's usually included in regular toppings.

You can, however, choose up to 2 free dressings that come on the side. I like that because I usually ask for my dressing on the side anyway, since I don't like when my salad is drowning in the stuff.

The quality of the food definitely shines through, but again, without a coupon, the price is around $11-15 for a salad that you could get with twice the toppings for $8 aruond the corner at Hudson Market. In that sense, it's not a good deal…

I'm not sure if I would come back for the full price salad, although I will say that the combination I got was pretty epic, so I just might have to splurge again son.

  3. They've got the vibe just the right side of overly stylised.

    Unfinished concrete floors – check.

    Artek style minimalism – check.

    Cool staff – check.

Most importantly, amazing tasting salads – check.

Had the curry cauliflower and quinoa, substance, flavourful and fresh as a daisy…also had a try of the Apple pear and cheddar which was equally as good.

So close to 5 stars, but I'm hogging the giving of 5 stars to an orgasm in the mouth, not quite that but pretty darn good.

  4. My go-to lunch place, I am obsessed with the Harvest Bowl. The combination of locally sourced wild rice, kale, squash, almonds, and a bunch of other veggies with balsamic vinaigrette makes a perfectly delicious yet well-balanced meal. I've even gotten it for dinner sometimes.

I'm not a huge salad fan, and Sweetgreen is one of the few salad places I consistently go back to. Took off one star for the inconsistent salads. Some days, it's been too wet from lackluster washing of the veggies but it's usually spot on!

If you come during lunch during peak hours ~12-2pm, expect really long lines and around a 20 minute wait. Yes, for salad!

  5. Not bad for a quick lunch, you pick your base (lettuce, arugula, spinach, etc.), your toppings (onion, peppers, cucumbers, etc.), your protein (I went with shrimp) and finally your dressing, Your salad comes with a slice of tasty brown bread as well.

There isn't a ton of seating here inside but we were able to grab a table outside. This place can be expensive, especially if you add a drink, but then again you are in Manhattan.

  6. The 'custom salad' option is a good way to go.  You can choose a grain or green base.  Four basic add-ons are included in the price.  Depending on the time of day, the ingredients are fresh or not, and soup is often not available late in the evening.  If they worked out these problems, I would rate them higher.

  7. This location is smaller than some of the others. The freshness and deliciousness is the same. My favs are kale Cesar and harvest grain.  There is bar seating for four. Same friendly service. My only thought is that the behind the scene kitchen action is too visible to the customer which makes the space look less sparkly clean like the soho location. Still the best salad chain ever!

  8. The hype is real and I reluctantly will admit that it's kind of worth it. Yeah, $12 for a fricken bowl of leaves is definitely ridiculous but my heart (and soul) justify it so easily. To be fair, the bowl is really large. If you regularly eat small meals you could split it into 2 meals for sure. I'm sitting here bloated as I type. I had the seasonal cauliflower salad which I HIGHLY recommend. It comes with organic quinoa + farro, organic arugula, roasted curry cauliflower, cilantro, raisins, roasted chicken, sriracha, and cucumber tahini yogurt. I got it without sriracha and some extra broccoli instead. Even without the added spicy kick it was amazing. Didn't think I could finish it but just kept shoveling it in my mouth. Must go back as soon as possible.
