I recently stopped by for a nice little Sunday brunch and it was absolutely delightful.
The venue appears to be cozy and it is evident that the place can get very cramped once the crowd starts rolling in. Upon 12pm arrival, it was pretty busy and the only seats available was next to a family that had an obnoxious crying baby jumping out of the high chair.
I thought that would have put a damper on my mood but after ordering a cup of coconut chai, I felt totally unbothered. The coconut chai was delicious, potent, and super palatable. The waitress brought a bread bowl to the table and I had a slice of raisin bread with my chai and the light buttery taste of the bread complimented well with my coconut chai.
After chai, I ordered a sombrero panini: grilled chicken, jalapeños, cheese, and pico de gallo. It was very tasty but a little too spicy for my preference but thankfully it came with a side of sour cream which calmed the intensity of the jalapeños a bit.
Overall, I definitely enjoyed the food and the family style aura this place gives off. I look forward to stopping by again soon so I can try some more chai/teas.
Well I ate here a few days ago… the place is cute… I almost forgot what I ate until I saw the image on my phone. The food just wasn't memorable. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with reg fries. We also had some tea. The decor was pretty cute. Enjoyed the art on the walls. The tea was great. The food was BLAH. The hollandaise sauce was SOOOO thin. It either broke or they have no idea how to make one. On my eggs benedict they gave me a think slice of ham. You ever goto the deli and the guy gives you a taste of the ham you are about to order to make sure he has the thickness right. Well that's what I got… like seriously…
I'll post up my sad eggs benedict photo.. I added salt and and pepper to it… I would NOT come here for the food. Maybe some tea and the interesting art work =)
I love tea and I love cute places that offer Chai tea like this one. The only reason I took off one star was because I ordered an Asian chicken salad and they gave me balsamic vinaigrette. The menu said Asian dressing but they said they don't have it. It's not a big deal except for the fact that I wouldn't have ordered it if I knew. The scones were delicious, the service was good otherwise and the atmosphere is very nice. My other friends each had salads, scones and a pot of tea and they enjoyed their meals. I've heard the breakfast is great so I will definitely go back to try that.
Wife wanted to check out this place for breakfast, so we gave it a try. I felt like I was the only guy when I went (there was a couple of other guys, but they were too embarrassed to show their faces just like me).
I had the Banana Walnut Pancakes, and they were pretty good. I know this place is known for their teas, but I made the mistake of ordering a cup of coffee and I didn't like it much for some reason.
I think most ladies would like this place. This is an awesome place if you like tea, or to meet up with your girlfriends or for bridal showers, etc. As a guy, I thought it was okay.
I don't know what happened… but something definitely happened. I am so sad. The quality of this establishment has plummeted. I used to love coming here on occasion for breakfast on the weekend but hadn't been back in some time. Our last experience was tragic…
We came Sunday around noon. They must have a new chef. The menu is the same/similar from what I can recall but the quality and preparation of the food is now so disappointing.
We got an order of french toast to share because I remembered it being well made and delicious. They should not advertise this as challah french toast anymore; the bread was measly, thin, and did not taste like challah.
I had what I usually order here: French onion soup; 2 eggs over easy with home fries and toast. I previously proclaimed this French onion soup to be one of the best. Certainly not anymore. Broth was overly thick and dark. 2/3 of the bowl filled with bread. The mozzarella on top wasn't even melted the way they used to and the cheese was tough to eat. My two friends ordered omelettes and we all agreed that the eggs overall were okay.
The thing that really bothered us was the presence of bacon in the home fries. Not sure if it's now made with bacon or if bacon bits were accidentally brushed into our food… but all of our home fries had bacon cooked in which was indicated NO WHERE on the menu. My friend is Jewish and keeps Kosher and obviously didn't realize until after a few bites in.
Best of all, when she asked about it, all she got from one of the waitresses was "honestly, I don't know." No apology (smh, *face palm*)
Now I like bacon myself but c'mon that's completely unacceptable. I don't think I'm being dramatic in saying it's a terrible thing to serve bacon to someone who doesn't eat it, even accidentally (Jews, Muslims, some Indians, vegetarians, vegans, someone that just doesn't like bacon…) Dietary restrictions are serious and people feel very uncomfortable when they're violated. Bacon especially has a strong flavor that permeates any dish that it's part of.
I mean, how are you going to serve "challah" french toast and then not disclose the fact that there's bacon in the home fries, especially when it's not typical for home fries to be cooked that way…
Our waitress was sweet but service was minimal to non existent. The hostess was the most unpolished and slightly idiotic. For 3 of us, it came to $64 and took over 2 hours. Breakfast should not be this much work…
Other factors that make this place unique remained the same: quirky, dated decor with mix matched chairs/tables and tea sets. It's cute but not enough for me to return or recommend to anyone. Chat Noir in RVC is a better choice if you're looking for a similar tea concept.
Portions were a bit small for food that was good but not great.
Decor, silverware, and style was definitely eccentric and homey.
Ordered half a pastrami sandwich with a side of a potato and leek soup. Both were nice in themselves but nothing to really write home about. Pastrami was a bit dry. The soup was nice in consistency but a bit bland.
My partner ordered an eggs Benedict which appeared slightly more appetizing. Love the gooey hollandaise and fresh fried home fries.
The cafe advertises music nights. Hoping to check those out in the future.
Would I come back? Hmmm more likely not. It's definitely a quaint staple in this neighborhood, the spot standing out near the train station.
This place is so cute and has a homey vibe to it. I love how the tea is served in cute designed tea pots with a tea set. They have a variety of different tea. We tried the Indian tea which had a cinnamon spice taste to it. It was delicious. It came with milk on the side if you want to add it. I ordered the italia omelette which had peppers, tomato, and mozzarella cheese. It came with a home fries. The home fries were seasoned just right, not overly salty which I love. The omelet tasted delicious and everything tasted fresh. I love the whole wheat bread. It was thick, toasted and it goes well with the butter. It's a great place for a date! Next time I'm back, I would love to try the Irish breakfast.
FINALLY got here and so happy I finally did.
It feels like home when you walk in, everything and everyone is so warm and welcoming.
It you get lost looking at all the different tea tops and accessories throughout.
The food was great! French toast was delicious and the Irish breakfast was perfect.
We will definatyely be back for sure.
