Tacombi – Bleecker Street

“Tried a selection of the taco's – turkey and chicken coming out ahead, vegetarian being great too…not so keen on the fish but that's my selection fail.”

“They have an interesting selection of drinks from the fresh juices to their sangria.”

“For dinner I had three tacos – the crispy fish, the cochinta de merida (pork), and another I forget the name of but was made with steak.”

  1. Solid tacos, better-than-solid margaritas, West Village prices.

My friend and I got in around 4pm on a Sunday, and it was absolutely packed. With an open-air layout great for a breezy summer afternoon and people-watching, I can totally see why this place is so popular even at odd hours. We settled for bar seats, and throughout our time there I couldn't help but be in awe of the neverending prep work being done across the counter. Plates after plates of tacos, batch after batch of guac… Definitely my type of assembly line.

Anyway, I ended up getting one barbacoa and one daily special grilled fish taco. I'd read plenty about the barbacoa, and yelpers got this one right. Very tender and flavorful; I'd recommend this one before any other variety. The special fish was just okay – mine was overcooked and otherwise nondescript.

The margaritas here are a great balance of sweetness and tequila strength, but at $12 a pop, be careful before you run up the kind of tab we did. If you're looking for drink deals or something, Tacombi isn't your place. In fact, if you're looking for a cheap bite, this ain't it either. I'm hesitant to say I'd return anytime soon, even though I enjoyed my afternoon here, just because overall I feel like I can get comparable food and drinks elsewhere in NY and abuse my wallet a little less. The atmosphere made Tacombi good for that day, but that's it for me.

  2. The tacos here are delish! They have one veggie option: sweet potato and cotijia cheese. It was amazing! My friend loved her barbacoa taco. The guac was a little bland and VERY expensive. The margs were a little on the sweet side and were also quite expensive. The vibe inside is very laid back, mexican, beachy. It was a fun spot but it was a bit pricey for what you're getting. Also, the bathrooms were in the basement and there are only one per gender, so you inevitably have to wait. The basement is HOT and smells like old fish, so not exactly the greatest place to be waiting for the bathroom.

  3. I came here recently, and I have to say that this place is really amazing. I didn't pay, so I'm not sure about the prices here, but I heard it can get a little pricey.

When I came, I was able to try the ceviche, which was absolutely amazing. It was not at all fishy, and had been marinating for so long, it was just bright and lovely.

In terms of the tacos, I tried quite a few. In order of preference on how I liked them: barbacoa, vegetarian, fish, chicken tacos.

The barbacoa was just a punch in the face of flavor. The meat was tender and juicy. It was quite delicious.

I'm a hardcore carnivore, but this taco was actually amazing. It was a black bean and sweet potato taco. When I first tasted it, I thought it tasted like pizza (love), but then that sweet potato taste starts to shine through and it just gets better.

The fish taco, was also excellent. I thought it was a tad over fried, as the fish had quite a large crunchy shell, but it was definitely delicious.

The chicken taco was a little sad. Although it tasted good, it was a little on the dry side.

I also had the chance to try their watermelon drink and that could definitely be the perfect summer drink. If they could somehow make that alcoholic, I would die.

The decor is pretty nice. Very old school and simple and perfect for talking with friends.

    Would definitely come here again.

  4. Look, I know a good taco. I make good tacos. I don't waste time with bad or substandard tacos. And omg Tacombi has the best tacos I've ever tried.

I came in for a Yelp Elite event. The event itself was extremely well done. What really stood out though was the decor. I visit Mexico at least once a year and I felt like I entered vacation mode and was walking through Playa del Carmen, Cancun, or my favorite Puerta Vallarta where they have the outdoor food night market. They go above and beyond and its sure to create the right ambiance.

Now, the food. Okay. Every taco I had was incredible. The Barbacoa was out of this world and cooked perfectly with the ideal amount of seasoning. I loved the fried fish as well which was unique and also really well presented! The sweet potato wasn't my favorite but my friend loved it, and the chicken was also great. So you see you really can't go wrong here. Did I also mention some of the best guac I've had?

I haven't been big on the 5 stars lately but Tacombi deserves it. I also learned they are opening a new location in my office building. Uh oh!

  5. The atmosphere in here is really homey. There are only stool seatings. The tables are kind of close together but far enough that you have space. They had the doors open today so you can watch the world go by while you eat. The waiter service is great here. You put what you want down on the menu. They have Pens on the side of the table. We ordered the chips and guacamole which is a good portion for two. The esquites are so good here. I ordered the fish taco and the pork taco which are both delicious. It's a good place to catch a light meal with delicious appetizers.

  6. Let's preface this by saying i've had a LOT of tacos here in NYC… so here's what you need to know:

The decor is super cute you feel like you are in mexico, they keep the doors open when its warm so you are kind of outside and can easily people watch.  All of the tables have stools and are close together – I kept getting hit by people and servers walking by.

You order using a little pencil on a small paper menu and choose how many of each taco you want. I thought this was a pretty cool detail.

We started with a beer, margarita on the rocks, and order of chips and guacamole.  The chips and guac were good served with a HUGE mound of guacamole.

For tacos we tried the chicken, beef, and pork.  I really liked the beef it had a nice spicy kick to it – but the chicken and pork were both kind of plain.

This place is good for a sit down, cute atmophere, get a few tacos and drinks but in my opinion there are much more flavorful and tasty tacos elsewhere in the village.

  7. WOMP.

I ordered Tacombi via Seamless because I had an amazing experience as Los Tacos and was craving more tacos the next day. Probably should stick to Los Tacos….

I tried the fish, pork, beef and chicken taco. To my surprise, my favorite was the pork. Was it as good as Los Tacos? No. But the meat wasn't dry compared to my chicken and beef and portion wise, it was the biggest of the four.

I'm also not sure if they fry shellfish in the same batter they fry their fish in because I had some sort of allergic reaction. (Should have probably mentioned to them I have a shellfish allergy but didn't think there would be any cross contamination. Totally my fault.) At least I'm alive.

Would I visit this place based on my delivery experience? Probably not.

  8. What a great spot for a quick bite or for a group gathering. Wonderful large space with the kitchen in the back and drink bar in the front. Open kitchen so you see everything going on. Highlights for a meal here to me are the veggie taco (beans and sweet potato) and the fish taco, fried up well with a good amount of bite. Wonderful flavors that match with the table hot sauces. I loved the arbol sauce. Nice amount of kick.

The nachos and guacomole were good too. Nice crunch and fresh avocados. Wash it down with some of the variety of great juices. Loved the fresh watermelon or even their sweet horchata rice milk with cinnamon.

Wonderful meal and great service. I'll be back.
