Tacos Cholula
“It's 'blah' cart aesthetic is likely urban camouflage to your jaded Yelper eyes.”
“They were dressed simply with a dollop of fresh onion (a little raw onion never hurts digestion) cilantro, spicy sauce and white soft cheese.”
“I've turned many of my friends on to you and your lengua (beef tongue) tacos.”

Ugh Aziz was right- these ARE the best Tacos in NYC. And they come from a cart.
Ventured here twice– once mid-day and once mid-night. Both times DELICIOUS. Ive tried the chicken, carnitas, and al pastor. Must say I like them all but the al pastor wins every time. Do yourself a favor and get them with EVERYTHING On top. It might be slightly spicy but worth it. Also, about 3.50$ but so worth it- theyre pretty huge. 2 tacos does the job, 3 if you're starving (i've seen this work for large guys and small gals that can put it away.)
Really nice guys that work there and play fun music. [ loved hearing the theme song to one of my favorite telenovelas.] Cash only! Enjoy.
So good! So quick! Made with so much love!
I know, I know…cart food? Yes, delicious cart tacos. You really can't go wrong with whatever you order. It'll be hot, made fresh to order and you won't be disappointed.
Yum!
I am like IN LOVE with their tacos. After the first time my friend brought tacos from here, I came back like three times after that day. It's soooo good and addicting! Ever since, I have been craving for tacos. Hahaha!
It is a food cart at the corner of the street, you cannot miss it at night because there is always a line for it. Everything is freshly made by two guys in the truck. All the tacos comes with double up tortilla, guacamole, onion and cilantro. My personal favorite is the Spicy Al Pastor and the Chicken. It is inexpensive; $3 per tacos and cash only! Must try, just do it and you will not regret it!
Their rice is always perfect; just the right texture, fluffiness, dry as in not greasy or juicy while still moist inside, seasoned right. Mexican Rice, the way I grew up eating it in California, is something that I find incredibly and increasingly lacking in NYC, sadly, so I find myself coming to this truck and their other truck on Wall Street when I want it done right — a simple thing, yet important. By the way, it is called Tacos Cholula now, differentiating from their restaurants nearby on 9th street and out in Elmhurst Queens… Their portions are pretty massive when you get things like burritos and burrito bowls, a lot of excellent food very reasonably priced, but I think their tacos are a bit meager considering they are now $3.50 each which is the same price as a restaurant and they don't give you chips or salsa here and they don't have any seating or air conditioning… My favorite dish is the Cecina, again and again, salted tender chewy beef, amazing…
What q hidden gem!I wish It was TacoTuesday every day here!Lol This little cart turns out some of the best tacos I have ever had in my life they are like a little taste of Mexico! My favorite are the chicken tacos, the chicken is so flavorful the cheese he uses along with the spices and tortillas sre so fresh and extremely loaded with flavor! I have yet to try anything but the tacos but I'm sure everything on the menu is just as good!If ever in alphabets city you must give this lil cart a try you won't be disappointed!
Good cheap eats. Been grabbing food from this street stand since they set up on the corner of 2nd St and A years ago. The quesadilla is my favorite menu item – it's yummy and crispy… Tacos are excellent as are the giant burritos. I'll rotate between the carnitas (fav), al pastor, steak(2nd fav), or chicken.. sometimes cuts of meat are meh, but you get what you pay for, it's cheap! On a few occasions the food I got did not necessarily "agree" with me.. didn't keep me from returning though. I always get everything loaded with the works… Salsa verde, guac, crema, pico, jalepenos.. mmm mmm good stuff and cheap-o. Be warned the hot sauces and jalepenos are wicked spicy… Open all day and night and it's not uncommon to find a long line. I've had a few meh things here.. (steak milanese torta went in the trash.. and the chili relleno was nasty) consistency can be an issue. Stick with quesadillas, tacos, burritos, these are the things they do best 😉
I saw this place featured on Aziz Ansari's Netflix comedy Master of None where him and his buddy Arnold were on a quest to find the best tacos in NYC. I didn't really think it existed until I looked up tacos in NYC and it appeared lol! Funny enough I just happened to be in the Village walking by the place and randomly walked right into it.
Just like on the show it's basically a food truck/cart parked on the corner of Avenue A & 2nd. The guys in there were really cool and helpful in picking the best tacos. I got the carne asada and al pastor spicy. Very nice sized tacos that were really good with all the toppings. I stood right there on the corner and scarfed them down. While I'm not sure if they are the best tacos in NYC, but I can say they are some pretty good ones.
where other restaurants mexiCANT…this lil' food truck mexiCAN!
Taco Tuesday? more like Taco Everyday!
Taco Morelos food cart slings big food and flavor out of a very small space. the tiny food truck is small in stature but large in charge when it comes to serving Mexican-inspired street food. if you're in the EV or Alphabet City—you have no excuse not to stop here and inhale some food like a glutton!
the cart itself is parked on 2nd Street and Avenue A. the cart itself is clean from the outside and is plastered with multiple iterations of the menu. the cart itself is brightly lit at night with a number of lights. there's a large garbage can for your trash needs. however late night night drunk eaters seem to miss this concept as they spill food all over the place. however the Tacos Morelos keep the area clean.
the food is prepared by two guys. one takes your order and $. the other operates the grill. then the guy who takes your order finishes up the order (assembles it) and then bags it. it's a pretty lean and mean operation–not that they have room for more staffers in the cart.
the two guys in the truck whip up tacos, burritos, cemitas, tortas, quesadillas, guac n chips, tostadas, sopes, tlacoyos, huaraches, and mo'. you have a ton of meat/filling choices for the tacos from steak to chicken to pork carnitas to pork enchilada to to pork pastor to beef tongue to goat barbacoa to chorizo to just veggies. you have those same protein choices for a lot of the other dishes as well. the tacos are tasty–and served in a doubled up small tortilla garnished with cilantro, guac, onions and spicy sauce. the spice factor is high if you go with everything. while the tacos are delicious, they are $3 a pop, so if you're superHANGRY…you're going to drop a lot of dollars to get a whole meal outta tacos. i'd recommend the goat barbacoa–so good!
for more substantial eats ($7-$8), go for the CEMITAS or TORTAS. The Carne Enchilada Tortas (spicy pork) is a spicy pork drowned in layers of beans, cheese, avocado, tomatoes, jalapenos, lettuce, and spicy crema sauce–smashed between two tortas. it's a delicious mess of flavors that is sure to cure evening or late night stomach grumblings. The Pork Pastor Cemita is another chaos of flavors sandwiched between a grilled roll that encloses grilled pork, beans, cheese, tomatoes, chipotle, and spicy crema sauce. again, your hunger will be slayed by this sandwich of meats, cheeses, veggies, and carbs!
you can also make some interesting quesadillas with the meat choices! the food here is legit good whether you need a snack of tacos, a meal via an overstuffed cemita, or late night alcohol soaking food like a torta. there is no place to sit outside around the truck, but this is more eating-on-the-go food or lean-and-chomp.
the staff themselves are supernice and keep the food and lines moving. they do a good job of handling the drunkOs and other characters while keeping regulars well-fed. if you're looking for eats at a great value…go no further than the Taco Morelos truck.
you can talk the talk or talk the taco–but i'm going to drop the mic so i can wrestle this massive cemita!
i out.
