Pretty awful taco truck. I went here on my lunch break because some co-workers recommended it, but this is just not good. Really nice choice of items on the menu, great portions, and great prices, but the food is bland and not flavorful, which is something you want from this type of food. Not a lot of drink options. And the truck isn't even there every day, so sometimes you take the walk and it's not worth it. The food is just kinda soggy and bland overall. Definitely better tacos in the area.
We're not in kansas, er california anymore but Tacos El Idolo wasn't bad. The carnitas was the fattiest pieces of pork i'd ever had. Literally 1/3 of it was just chunks of fat with no actual meat attached. The chivo was kinda dry. But at least it was fast and they didn't have the soggy tortilla affliction so much mexican food on the east coast does.
So I am familiar with this truck being on the corner of Kossuth & Broadway in Bushwick, right outside the Premier Foods, right next to Kosiusko J stop.
From what I'm reading, their tacos are $3 each now, but they still have the same wide variety of meat options. I pass by this truck all. the. time. Sometimes on my way back from the gym. Mostly without cash on me. It always looks amazing and there's always a small crowd out front. I finally gave it a try last week. Two carnitas tacos and a pepsi. Ran me $8 with a $1 tip. Wish the tacos were still $2.5 (or better yet, $2!) but it's a solid bet on my way back to my place after a long day.
Not sure which Tacos el idolo I went to, it was the one by a subway to the Village (maybe the other.)
A carton of somewhat bland horchata is better than no horchata, especially for the price. Tamarindo is terrible and not recommended (too sugary/not nearly tart enough.)
In terms of the food, have tried the goat/chivo and the chicken/pollo, goat is much better. Torta is properly crispy and it is nice and spicy with those jalapenos. Guy isn't super nice but I don't expect it at a Mexican Taco truck. Order in Spanish for more "love." 3.5, rounded down, not something to rush to but not bad at all.
I was ridiculously drunk when I had some tacos from them so I hesitate to give 4 stars even though my drunk brain thinks they deserve it. I got a couple of carnitas tacos and a couple chorizo tacos. They were both very good, very hot, and packed full or meat and toppings. I wouldn't hesitate from getting a couple more the next time I'm drunk and in the area.
Great tacos and Horchata! They give you a lot of food and also the Horchata was no joke. The owner gave me a big jar. It is like a carton's worth of it. I am hungry for their spicy pork nachos now…
