  1. A place to eat when you are hungry….really really hungry….and there is nowhere else to go……

*Note* The review is based off of lunch only.

    Food: 1.5 Stars
"Fast-Food Steak" is the best way to describe the food at this restaurant.
The steak is cooked to order at a grill in front of you and served on a tray that looks like it has been used since 1985. The steak tends to be a hunk of meat which a good chunk of fat attached to it.

    The garlic bread is good.

The sides I've had are baked potatoes and rice, both of which are either overly rich with butter and/or salt.

They cook the food right in front of you, so there is that…

    Ambiance: .5 Stars
The decor is straight out of the 70's and 80's, died a painful death and has been left to rot for 30 years.
There isn't a solid wall splitting Tad's Steaks and Tim Horton's. It is just a temporary partition in which you can see everyone next door.
The restaurant (despite getting A"s consistently over the past year or so by the health inspection) doesn't look sanitary. I guess the decor just makes it look horrible.

    Overall: 1.75 Stars
Other than the Lunch special at $8 and change, I'd recommend staying away from this place.

  2. Despite all the bad hype I have to say, I haven't yoked yet. My baked potato was fine as was the garlic bread and salad with oil and vinegar. I ordered the number 3. I asked for a medium well cooked steak and got a medium rare instead. The steak was a bit grizzly, I didn't finish it. I opted not to get onions or the gravy they automatically smother everything in.  So far, no indigestion,  I'm fine. for the price it's not a bad deal. I suppose if you are really hungry and in the neighborhood you would be no worse off than eating off a vending truck.

So the interior lacks luster and the red plastic trays remind me of the school lunch line, but if they upgraded the interior and served up top cuts of meat….it wouldn't be Tad's

  3. Sorry Tad, but the quality of your food has seriously diminished through the years.  We ordered the "Big One" and what were received was a dainty piece of freeze-thawed-freeze-thawed again slab of mush that wasn't even cooked properly nor evenly.  The only reason for coming here was because I had read they were closing down, so for nostalgia's sake (parents used to take me here when I was growing up) I paid one last visit.  Even the garlic bread was lacking as  it was dry.  The baked potato also tasted….  old and simply reheated.  The only thing decent was the salad sadly.

  4. Yeah, I was Jones-ing for a steak. Being somewhat Atkinsean these days, I wanted to try Tad's.
Right off- the steak's good. Not outstanding- just good, solid steak. The toast is half a roll flattened Cuban style. Both could benefit from a little garlic salt…. Overall, I'd say it was tasty, but maybe a tad tough. (Sorry, had to work that in).
Overall, forgettable, but yet…. reliable.   I can't but help thinking that this place is here only for the touristas, though.

  5. "plastic steaks"
Tads is an urban myth of being the worst steakhouse known to man! based on all the negative reviews and the numerous amount of jokes received, i thought i try this place out and good thing i did while i was with a good numbers of yelpers!!! literally i didnt know what to expect walking in. from the the first few seconds i notice a cheerful staff that greeted and welcomed me in and even later joked with me while being on the line (which i thought was cool). i ordered one of the steaks and it was really terrible, literally this steak tasted like someone burn rubber one hundred times over!!! but yet i wanted to tough it out and continue what was on my plate. along with my wonderful plate i had mash potatoes, along with veggies that was clearly heated up in the microwave. it was similar to eating a tv dinner frozen.

    "weird people"
a few yelpers and i were trying to process what were eating but while we were doing that we had other people literally starring us down as we ate, maybe they liked what we ordered or liked what we had one but one thing is for sure, we were being stared at every five seconds!

    "overall"
try this place one time and never come back again, it isnt worth the money, time, and convenience! your are better of venturing to the next steakhouse in the area for a high quality steak.

  6. I remember back in the day, I would be hanging with my girl at Time's Square and we be walking by one of the many TAD's Steaks at the time at 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning.  We be seeing the steaks and t-bones grilling from the window. And watching the flames shoot up when the grease hit the fire and getting the aroma whiffs anytime the door open. We couldn't help but go in for some before going home to the Bronx via Subway and cuddle.

Ya I know, 2nd rate cuts of meat, plain baked potato, and a real good garlic bread. But this is the last TAD's in NY.

Time let's good memories stay and forgets the bad. Soon TAD's will be gone just like me and I hope people will remember me the same as I remember TAD's.

  7. Giving this place a bad review because of the decor or ambiance is like giving Mc.Donalds or Chipotle a bad review.

They are priced as the fast food of steak!!

I work right down the block and the street carts are priced at $8 for lunch. I had a strip steak lunch special for $9 and some change. The meat had flavor and cooked medium well, just the way I like it. Now obviously, don't take your first date here but for quick fresh red meat fix, this is the go to spot.

If people expect Peter Luger's for under ten bucks, please get out of this city please.

  8. This will always and forever be my favorite place to get a cheap meal for the right price, the pork chops and steaks are delicious and cooked to your likings and on top of that you always get salad, bread and a side of your choice. It's just sad that they closed down the tads on 34th & 42nd. Tads please expand not close down keep up the great work.
