  1. The food is good and the price is right. In the morning sometimes there is only 1 person cooking which causes a long delay for your food to be cooked. But $10 for a meal? Sign me up. The food is good and reminds me of food from Taiwanese food trucks that I have tried. The crispy chicken and pork belly are both very good.

  2. This is definitely one of those better Taiwanese places even in Chinatown, considering the fact that there aren't that many authentic ones, especially since the Bian Dang Truck has disappeared near my office in midtown earlier in the year.

You literally choose from fried chicken leg, peppercorn chicken (the food I missed the most in Taiwan), minced pork, and some sort of weekly specialty. As for today, I got the railroad pork chop box; and could easily pair it with milk tea or other soft drinks. It was actually very comparable with the railroad bento box I once got in Taiwan, with pork chop well marinated and cabbage being soft and chewy. Aside from the regular items, you also got a half tea egg, minced pork, as well as the preserved tofu, stuffy! The milk tea, on the other hand, was just at the right level of sweetness. Loved everything!

  3. Amazing Taiwanese bento boxes.  It was so authentic and delicious that it really brought me back to the taste of Taiwan. I got the crispy chicken that was served over a bed or rice poured with famous Taiwanese pork sauce.  I totally loved the added sides of 1/2 of a hard boiled egg and tofu squares.  Bento boxes are mildly overpriced at $9.99 per box but can get a meal deal if you add also a drink- any fruit or bubble tea can be added. I cannot wait to come back to try their pork chop meal 😉

  4. Just ordered delivery from here and really not impressed. What is with all the hype?

I ordered the fried chicken leg bento box. I really think for 10 dollars the portion should be a lot bigger.

The fried chicken was dried and decent but nothing was special about it. The minced pork over the rice was bland and the half tea egg, bean curd and stir fried cabbage was just really whatever

Really not authentic…i was born and raised in Taiwan… Overrated and over hyped. Portion was too small for the price.

Won't be ordering from here again

  5. Came here for lunch after reading about them on NYTimes. Overall id say it was good, but didn't blow my brains off good. Me and a Friend had their scallion chicken and their regular fried chicken one. The fried chicken one was good as it had 5 spices and was super deep friend like pop corn shrimp. Under the fried chicken they provided a meat sauce and half a tea egg. The scallion chicken was braised chicken with scallion and ginger. It came with a warm cabbage slaw, tea egg and rice. I thought the wooden boxes would add something to the taste but its really for the looks. The lid also doesn't stay on so be careful if you're doing take out. This is comfort food for me and overall it was good, but I'm not sure if it can lure me away from pork chop house down the street. FYI this place also doesn't have a bathroom and has limited seating.

  6. More often than not my Taiwanese food cravings will awaken from its hibernation and must be satiated. A quick hunt on Yelp led me to Taiwan Bear House. The restaurant's animated teddy bear signals a clean oasis from the normal drudges of Chinatown, NYC. The minced pork bento box appeased the beast but I expected a little bit more (perhaps size does matter.. for food anyway :D).

  7. I came here on a weekday dinner with a friend. The rice box reminds me of boxes I had on train rides in Taiwan. The pork chop and chicken legs are awesome. The marinated eggs are done perfectly, and I like the cooked veggies that come with it. I wish they had a bit more seatings considering its fairly large place. But I guess they want to go for the clean and spacious vibe.

  8. I've never had Taiwanese food before so decided to give it a go. I ordered the pork belly bento box and got a peach green tea with lychee jelly.

The box it comes in (for take out) is pretty cute, not your typical plastic take out container. Portion wise, it was very little for $10. Tastewise, everything tasted good I guess. I don't really see how this is different from Chinese food that my mom makes at home. In fact, when I was eating it, I felt like I was eating my mom's cooking. Which would not cost me $10. Is this really was Taiwanese food tastes like? (My mom is not Taiwanese)

The drink was ok. Not bad, not great. Would probably have been better off getting something from one of the numerous bubble tea places in the area though. Much more options that way.

Overall, I did like my food, but did not feel like it was worth what they charge for it and did not really feel like it was different from the cheaper alternatives in the neighborhood. Would not come back.
