“I had the Champon Ramen which has a mild spicy seafood soup base with lots of seafood in it.”

“(by my new office) Had the Pork Gyoza and Tantanmen, no complaints here!”

  1. I am glad that people likes this place. I see more of people getting crave for Ramen these days and it must be nice to have Ramen spot around LIC. I have been to Astoria one few times yet didn't really like their quality of Ramen. I mean.. its not bad yet doesn't feel like it is authentic Japanese Ramen. So since my co-worker asked if there is any Ramen place around our office, we went to this spot together as I've never tried Vernon Ave one.

We got Shumai, pork and shrimp one. Despite it came out in like 3min, it was pretty delicious. On the other hand, Ramen wasn't great at all.

I might being too picky on this. However, as person who always claims myself as Ramen fan- how can't I be?

First of all – I don't think they spent many time on making their broth like traditional Ramen place does. I could feel that their broth is rich but feels too many flavors fights against each other. Such a bad compound. It's bit fishy too.

Second – their toppings are seriously not legit. It may looks same but when you look at them closely, they are something else. Charsiu are not cooked in traditional way, it was just boiled then grilled. You don't feel the smell of traditional char siu has on this one. Softness? No it is very dry meat too. What about this egg topping? This is just half boild egg – it is not Ajitsuke Tamago. Traditional egg topping for Ramen is Ajitsuke Tamago, which supposed to be marinated after half boiled. So it gets more taste on surface & outside. This one is just white egg without any taste. Menma(bamboo shoot) taste like it just came out from the jar sells from Sunrise market. It didn't get dried before pouring into soup. This is total disaster!

Only thing I like about their Ramen was their noodle quality, it was pretty tender and cooked perfectly. Yet- it was too much compared to broth they put in the bowl.

I don't know if owner knows about this but I don't think I can call this bowl as Ramen. This is something else noodle. And yes, I won't be recommending this place to whoever craving for Ramen.

  2. I really enjoyed the pork buns here because they weren't too chewy, however, the ramen was just eh. The customer service was great, but it's not what will have me come back here again.

  3. I've been to the location in Astoria a few times now and I really love the place. This location wasn't at the same level though for some reason. Maybe I have to come back another time.

I tried something different and went for the Champon (seafood) ramen ($12.95) this time since I had tried the Shoyu and Kara Miso at the other location, which were both really good, but the Champon was definitely not the best. The seafood was tough and rubbery and there was so much raw onion it was overpowering. I usually never have these common ramen complaints I see everywhere like: "It was too fatty, overly salty, so greasy, etc" but the onion was definitely too much for me. My biggest thing is usually the broth is just too weak or I felt like there wasn't much flavor. But the broth itself was actually pretty good, just all the toppings didn't match up. Tough seafood and too much onion. I just didn't feel right afterwards either, I think the seafood was a bit hard to digest.

The pork buns we got were also very bland. Wilted lettuce and just a plain piece of chashu without much flavor. The bun itself didn't have much bounce or freshness to it either.

Overall I wasn't really stoked on this one and will keep the Astoria location as my go-to. Also, I'd stick with the traditional or standard ramen here whether it's the Shio, Shoyu, or Miso options, those are what I think they do best. Hopefully it was just an off night or the specific ramen I ordered because I really do like Tamashii.

  4. Don't get the curry ramen. Curry ramen is delicious when it's made with good curry, but ramen shops aren't known for their good curry, and will likely feed you Vermont/Java Curry. I tried it here and I was sorely disappointed, but so many of the other bowls of ramen looked good that I had to come back and try something a little more straight-ahead.

Tamashii excels at the standard ramen fare. Get the shoyu ramen, or the miso ramen. The broth is excellent, and you can request your desired noodle firmness (but you might get asked a few clarification questions). They also have a selection of vegetarian ramen, which I can't personally vouch for, but the vegetarian in our group enjoyed the veggie miso ramen.

I know Mu Ramen is around the corner, but it's robbery to charge that much for a bowl of soup. Tamashii Blue is reasonable, delicious, and I've never had to wait. I'll be back.

  5. Good, casual ramen spot that's well air-conditioned so you can enjoy even on a hot summer day if you're up for it.

It's a small cozy restaurant, but the hostess was very accommodating when my friends and I came in a group of 10. Granted it was 9pm on a Tuesday night, so don't try this on a Friday night. Since it's very close to the train station and the pier, I'm assuming it's poppin in the evening.

Ramen comes out fairly quickly which is always a plus for me and refills of extra noodles are available for $3. My friend got 3 refills using the same broth, which goes to show how much one bowl of ramen can take you!

The ramen itself is yummy. I love the ball of red spices which gives the original clean broth a burst of crazy flavors. I think it's the better option, but the original broth is good too. Clean, flavorful and meaty. The broth makes it.

They also have an extensive menu if you're craving other asian food like donburi. Appetizers are decent, no real highlights but fried chicken and pork buns are always good. Definitely not the best I've had, but nonetheless good.

  6. Wow. This place is doing something right. As an avid ramen eater, this place is in the top 10 for me. I got the number 14 which is a form of the shoyu ramen and it was de-li-cio-us. My first impressions of any ramen dish I eat is the level of saltiness at initial bite. I have had many ramen dishes where it might taste amazing the first spoonful, but then become unbearable to eat later on as the saltiness builds. This place does it right by taking that into account and the result is delicious. I have been to two Tamashii locations and none of them have dissappointed. (Oh by the way, the takoyaki is awesome too)

  7. Great ramen and extremely pleasant waiters and waitresses

I have been here a few times and have always loved the spicy Tata ramen and their pork buns.

The prices are very accurate for the area and the service is always prompt.

Just wish they had more cold ramen options.

  8. My cousin took me here for ramen. I ordered the miso ramen. It was delish. Broth was amazing, noodles were cooked to perfection. Toppings were good too. All in all great spot for ramen. Price is decent. Will definitely come back.
