After being stood-up by a blind date whom, I have been corresponding via e-mail for three weeks, when plans were set originally to either go to the MET or take a walk in Central Park he tried to compensate his lack of communication by taking me here for brunch. With a bad mood from being cold and wet from a very enchantingly nasty rainy Sunday of spending two long hours on the antiquated and very problematic New York City's subway system coming from Queens to Manhattan's Upper East Side combined for being stood-up; I've lost my appetite. Noodle soup for a blind date? We arrived at a table to seek bail from the nasty cold rainy weather which this blind date wore a rude scowl on his face which makes me wish to obtain the check faster than consuming my meal. Has dating become so low-class combined with lack of communication? Upon exiting the restaurant after our crappy meal was finished the disgruntled blind date rudely made a snide comment to the wait staff by pointing behind my back with: "she's pissed at me."
Wontons are not automatically added in noodle soups unless specified which my blind date made a rudely demand to the waiter in requesting wontons. The restaurant appears rather shabby and needs TLC with cosmetic décor and structural changes. Since it's shabby, it does not appear clean. Remember: first impressions make lastly impressions.
You've probably eaten better Chinese in your day, but its quite the snag price especially in the upper east side.
The lunch menu options are 6 and 6.50 for an entree and soup. You have to hand it to them there. I haven't seen their dinner menu but I can't imagine much it's more.
Overall, the menu is very simple and non exotic Chinese dishes. The decor is humble at best, asphyxia of the eyes at worst.
If you're ballin on a budget not too shabby. If you're into quality, rich, delicious Chinese you'll be quite let down. But if you want a slightly sub-par cheapo Chinese meal well winner winner lemon chicken dinner.
This place was pretty busy during lunch time! I got the beef chow fun which they really packed into my to go box (I had noodles for lunch and dinner, haha). I liked the meat but the noodles were just standard. They give you a big portion and are nice workers, though!
Ahh, marinated beef strips with Chinese jalapeno peppers… What's the Chinese word for "delicious"?
Quick delivery and while I've had beef with Chinese peppers at other Chinese digs, this is my new favorite. Large helpings, lean beef marinated in a smokey, savory and sweet sauce.
The BF had Celestial Chicken, browned chunks of white meat chicken, mixed veggies over rice with a savory brown sauce, not so spicy but delicious.
The prices were a wee bit steep for Chinese delivery; Two entrees and two canned sodas were $29. Paying that much for Chinese in New York is nearly unheard of; but the portions helped make up for it a bit since we had enough for dinner and a little left over for lunch the next day.
Friendly delivery man, restaurant accepts credit cards… Give this place a try!
Large lunch portions & this is more of a place where you can eat in vs. just go in for take out. Has the feel of an old & reliable spot. I LOVE that their sweet & sour chicken had everything I wanted in it & NO onions! This is the only place where I got sweet & sour chicken and didn't have to remove onions from the plate. That made me very happy.
It's also not overpriced or crowded on a Saturday afternoon, which were pluses for us when we were in the area to pick up framing work. Plus, they had an A grade.
The old Tang Tang was a dump!
Sub par take out Chinese – but it was cheap and lightening fast service.
Cheap, quick, big plates of greasy ick.
OK, maybe that was harsh but everything I ever tried here was too oily.
When you first walk into a restaurant, what do you want to smell? The aroma of the restaurant's food of course! However, that is not the case with Tang's Garden. I have eaten here a couple of times for a quick lunch and almost every time I enter the restaurant, the smell is nauseating. It seems like a mix of some cleaning solution and a dirty mop. Would you still want to eat with that smell wafting through the air? The place is also very dingy looking, the plates, utensils, and napkins aren't the cleanest either.
Service is VERY casual. They can be pretty rude sometimes. The female servers are very nice, but the male servers have that "what do you want?!" attitude when taking your order and they do not have the friendliest look on their face either. It felt like they just wanted to get everything over with and get us out of there before we even started ordering.
The food is better than the service, but nothing spectacular. I have only eaten general tso's chicken and sesame chicken here and the chicken tends to be slightly overcooked. There are also flies flying around as you eat, which is pretty annoying. I want to focus on enjoying my food when I'm eating at a restaurant, not have to swat around after every bite!
Overall, not your best bet if you want to eat around this neighborhood. Ambiance is no good, service is no good, decor is no good, and the food is meh. Take your money elsewhere. There are plenty of better restaurants around. I don't even understand how this place is still here considering the type of service they provide and the type of clientele in this neighborhood.
so so Chinese food with a cheap lunch special.
