  1. The tacos at this cart are pretty good, they've got a lot of competition though throughout this entire strip and neighborhood in general – but they do have a really fantastic spot right underneath the overpass of the large train hub that is 74th and Roosevelt.

I've only had tacos here like twice and both times were simply okay, nothing to write home about but they serve their purpose and I would gladly order them again.

What really saves this cart for me is that they offer a variety of different foods like tortas, quesadillas, more traditional sandwiches, I think fajitas/floutas, etc.

The quesadillas here here are what's up – lots of juicy meat, lots of cheese, fresh cilantro if you ask nicely for it, ample limes available and spicy sauces if you're into that sort of thing (I can't do spicy, yeah yeah – I know, lame).

The guy(s) that run the cart are also pretty friendly and easygoing despite how there can oftentimes be a line since they're the first cart in your face upon exiting the train station – but they're fast, tasty and cheap…sometimes that's all you need.

  2. Among the taco cart mainstays in Jackson Heights, Taqueria Huejotzingo (TH) finds itself parked in front of the 74th Street-Broadway station and right next to Sabor Mexicano (yelp.com/biz/sabor-mexic…), 24 hours a day, rain or shine.  The tacos do the job, but they don't beat out the rest of the local competition.

Named after a town just outside Puebla, Taqueria Huejotzingo presumably brings a lot of the home flavor back to the mouths of it's former inhabitants.  Most Mexicans whom I've spoken to who came here by way of Mexico have almost always cited Puebla as their hometown (literally).  Many will flock to this cart during all hours of the day and it's never unusual to see a small crowd forming here during rush hour or late at night.

One particular edge TH has on the rest of the competition is they offer more food than just tacos, quesadllas or tortas, but rather daily soup specials (Menudo!), hand made tortillas, and tamales.  Sadly it's too hard for me to hype up the tamales, most of the ones I've tried were dry and were most likely sitting out awhile.  Tacos here are good, but are only mildly good when compared what can be had in a two block radius.

TH is fortunate to be able to utilize the overhead subway platform and Roosevelt Station for cover in case of bad weather.  It's pretty obvious why there are only a couple of carts after a certain time period for both weather and convenience reasons.  Very few patrons will make the trek to an isolated food cart, when they can dine for the same price right outside the subway.  But when the night ends and the day begins, it's carts like usually Sabor Mexicano and Taqueria Huejotzingo that are left standing.
