I enjoyed Taqueria! Solid 3.5 y'all!
The horchata is $3 bucks, creamy and sweet. Its a must here as the dishes are a bit on the spicy side. I wasn't aware of the daily deals, so I'll put y'all on.
Torta Monday $5 bucks!
Taco Tuesday $5 bucks!
Quesadilla Wednesday $5 bucks!
Burrito Thursday $5 bucks!
This includes Pastor, Chicken and Carnitas only.
Last week while shopping I decided to try this spot! The staff is amazing and helpful. The food is spicy and seasoned well. The portions in the Burrito bowl was to my liking, but maybe I've been spoiled by that other Mexican franchise that starts with a C.
Anywho the food was good and I enjoyed my Pastor burrito bowl. I ordered mild spicy and it doesn't disappoint. The spicy level is hitting and I was soooo happy I had the horchata to calm everything down. Check my pic and try them out to get your own take on it. I really need to come back and get my Taco Tuesday on! I think they have some cooler options versus there competitors and that alone is worth checking out.
Mega satisfying meal.
I think we had 2 apps between 3 and we were almost full after the apps.
For apps, the clear winner is the deep fried pork belly bits. Oh lawd.. we can't stop eating those crunchy, savory, porky , bacon good ness. I highly recommend this. See if they can sprinkle some sea salt on them things..
For my dinner, I had 'a little of something'.. un poquito del todo..
It was a mixed plate, and it arrived with ropa vieja, grilled pork, rice n beans, maduros, yucca… The ropa vieja was delicious, so was the pork , rice and beans and yucca. So I overate. It was just so good.
Looking over to my dining parties , .. similar situation. Lots of frustration.
"I want to eat more but I could not" It was a man vs food situation and we lost. We'll be back.. and we'll come hungrier than ever and we are gonna claim back our rightful place at the table of knights of the clean plates…
Taqueria Los Gueros is actually a small chain of restaurants. This is the newest location to open up. Unlike the one in Passaic they do not serve alcohol. But this place has a serve your own salsa bar and free nachos! Since this is a serve your own salsa bar people decide to get real liberal with some of the selections (cough cough guacamole salsa cough cough). So be for warned that your favorite salsa or topping may not be there. Also take the hot sauces seriously. I'm sweating and salivating just thinking about those hot sauces. I tried the hottest sauce there once and thinking about it still makes me sweat balls!
Now onto the food! Just recently tried their $5 tacos Tuesdays. I like chicken tacos with extra cilantro, lime juice, and salsa to top it off. Not a bad deal for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. quesadilla are also good. That is what I used to order when I first started going there. Honestly the quesadilla aren't bad but I got bored after a while and wanted to try something new. Kind of like a old married couple wanting to try something new to spice things up in the bedroom. Still love it but have to change it up to keep it interesting!
So recently another thing that I have been rocking as of late is the Chilango burrito. I usually get chicken as my meat of choice but there is a lot more to choose from. This burrito is a nice combo of melted jack cheese, guacamole, and picco de gallo. I usually get nachos. I should note I have never sat down to eat at this location so I assume if you do you'll get free nachos too.
Personally I love spicy food and I love this place! But if you don't then this place isn't for you because everything is seasoned at least to be somewhat spicy. I have one friend who lives close by and I told him about this place. He already knew and told me the place is just to damn spicy for him. Oh well to each their own on that account.
I like to get horchata's as a side drink to even out the spiciness. Last Horchata I got from them was a little chunky with cinamon sediment though. Wasn't a bad thing to me, just an initial confusion as to why my horchata had a milk shake like consistency. It's nothing that a little mixing didn't solve.
So needless to say the place is hot in more ways than one! I'm never disapointed!
Ambiance/Decor/Atmosphere: Yellow, white, and black colors shaped strangely for this type of establishment. Yes, it was a Mexican fast casual restaurant before, but I was expecting a waitress on roller skates to greet me in the lot. Definitely a classic disco 70s feel from this design.
Noise/sound level: Pretty large room with tall ceilings which could lead to some echoing conversation. But, not really a distracting volume of sound from the music overhead or the patrons in the place.
Menu: Split up into a few sections of tacos, burritos, alambres, and tortas. Pretty small and poignant capturing items not seen around these parts and typical fare you'd expect from a fast casual Mexican restaurant.
Service: You walk up to the counter and order, then wait for the food, and take the tray when it's ready. No real service other than smiles and greetings, but the staff was very nice and friendly. There was a decent crowd, but we didn't have to wait long.
Food: I had the toluqueno alambre, and my buddies had burritos. The toluqueno qas basically ground chorizo, cheese, and onions served with pico de gallo and corn tortillas. I found my meal to be overly greasy as chorizo usually is, and with the cheese the meal was super rich. Salt levels were ok, but some more was necessary to further enhance flavor. My buddies really liked their burritos. The guacamole was the star of the show, albeit a bit bland the level of heat and flavor was definitely satisfying. The chips were pretty good, but also needed salt.
Bar: None
Price: For what you get on a standard business day I'd say this kind of food is a little expensive. I spent $40 for two burritos, an alambre, three sodas, and a side. I'm sure when you visit during one of the specials there is more value to be had. However, for some odd reason it felt like we were eating, and eating, and eating, but never made any head way with the food, so I could be wrong.
Overall: Great to see a different take on the run of the mill Mexican food considering Chipotle is everywhere, but still not great enough to make me gooooooo waaaaaayyyy out of my way to eat here. If I'm in the area, sure no problem, but I can make equal quality and tasty food at home.
Oh, and I think the address is wrong too, this place is in the strip mall next to the big hotel in the Flaming Grill shopping center.
First review of 2015. Here we go…
This used to be the site of Baja Fresh, another Mexican establishment. It was changed over to this place, maybe about a year or two ago. The inside still looks almost the same. The color scheme inside of the restaurant is identical. White, yellow, and black. Sort of looks like a beehive.
Their claim to fame is authentic Mexican food.
I came here for takeout on taco Tuesdays – 5 tacos for $4.99, and I was allowed to choose up to two meats to mix and match. My choices included pastor (roasted pork), carnitas (pulled pork), or pollo (chicken). I chose the carnitas and pollo.
The food was OK, it was nothing special. The meat was a bit dry and didn't have much flavor to it. There weren't many veggies included with my tacos, just onions and tomatoes, which I was disappointed about. The shells were good though. I saw the authenticity of the tacos, by the shells that they came in.
I was given nacho chips, in addition, to my meal. There is a salsa station there with cups for mild, medium, and hot salsa. I chose the medium and the hot. The medium has an avocado taste to it and the hot was very hot. The chips weren't bad, although the hot sauce didn't have much flavor to it.
Today was a special day for me cause I was goona watch Eminem's monster tour.
Happily we found this Mexican food restaurant. The decor was nice and clean. Friendly waiter and waitress. Besides, there was a salsa bar, which they got red hot, mild and salsa made of avocado. There was a salsa mixed with yellow peppers and onion, so spicy. Be careful when tasting it.
Burrito was of large quantity, mixed with rice, onion, Jack cheese, chicken and peppers. Taste yummy.
It was a Saturday late afternoon. Not so many people, kind of empty. On the other side of the mall, a flaming Chinese buffet was way too crowed.
So far ive had the chilango alambre, chilango burrito, and cubana torta a theyve all been excellent. Great flavor, packed with meat. Their hot sauce/salsa station is awesome. Spicy avocado sauce? (It's just green hot sauce but its really good) They toast the burritos just a tiny bit and it comes out slightly crunchy but still soft… its like magic. Burrito can be a bit bigger, but still tastes amazing. The torta was just FILLED with meat and avocado, i couldnt believe it. Free little side of chips for most entrees. Definitely have to check this place on Tuesdays for Taco Tuesdays!
I enjoyed this replacement of baja fresh (which, let me say, is pretty much still just baja fresh). I'm sure the menus differ a bit, but the interior is exactly the same and the food for the most part is the same. I liked baja fresh too though. That is, until it started going down hill and went out of business.
I had the soft corn tacos and they were delicious. I'm a huge fan of their salsa bar! Try a little of everything. The avocado salsa is a hit. Everything tasted fresh and they keep it clean. Great for some quick Mexican style food.
