  1. I've tried multiple things from this menu so I feel pretty comfortable rating the establishment now. I thought the food was okay, certainly not at the same level as Orale. I've had the Chicken Milanese Torta, Carnitas Torta and Chicken Enchiladas.

The chicken Milanese torta was pretty good, it had a lot of flavors and the meat was cooked perfectly. I took out the jalapeños because it was getting too hot for me. The carnitas torta is a little less impressive. The meat wasn't really seasoned, it was kind of bland. As for the chicken enchiladas, they give you a lot of food for the price. You get a good size portion of rice and refried beans in addition to the enchiladas. The chicken was cooked well (dark meat) and there were a lot of flavors in the dish. The salsa Verde sauce was sweet with a bit of tang. It paired well with the dish. I got a side of Mexican guacamole with it, which was extremely spicy. The guac was good, bit for $3, it really wasn't worth it.

Overall, it's a solid experience. Food is good, some dishes are better than others. I will say their delivery is on point. They came within the time they stated.

  2. I used to live on Morris St., so I would end up here a lot to grab something when I didn't know what else to get. Mexican isn't my favorite type of food, but I would go out of my way to get the Chicken Flautas from here. They describe them on their menu as "five rolled crispy taquitos topped with Mexican cream, lettuce, white cheese, onion, hot sauce, and avocado." I can honestly just describe them as amazing. Staff have always been friendly. I place my orders online and they're ready quickly. Nothing bad to say about this place!

  3. One visit is all it took for this place to become my new favorite Mexican place in jersey city.  Thinking we'd grab some tacos at Taqueria on Grand Street, we arrived to see a massive line and immediately started to think about option B.  I have wanted to try Taqueria Viva Mexico Kitchen Cafe for sometime so we decided the extra walk was worth it.  The restaurant is on the small size and there are not many tables, but we were able to snag the last empty table without a wait.  Service was very warm and attentive, to the point where for perhaps the first time in my life my waitresses asked if I wanted more green sauce when she saw I was running low.  THANK YOU! I ALWAYS WANT MORE GREEN SAUCE!!!!!!   I ordered exactly what I was planning to order at the other Taqueria, Potato Flauta plate (with rice and beans) and a taco.  The shrimp taco was delicious as were the flautas.  Although we arrived empty handed, it looked like this place is BYOB, so that's another plus.  Throughly impressed with the food and service of Taqueria Viva Mexico Kitchen Cafe, it may be a while before I darken the other Taquria's door again.  Extra points for their cool retro NJ State Map place mats that me and my fella were captivated with until our food arrived.

  4. I LOVE this place. Anytime I'm craving Mexican food I eat here. Everything I've ordered had been spot-on. Can't ever go wrong with their chips and guacamole made with fresh avocados and everything else that goes with it. Must order: chicken chilaquiles with green sauce. The chicken is grilled to perfection, and together with the green sauce, avocados, and cheese- YUM. The barbacoa huarache is also delicious if you like lamb. If you haven't already been here, go. Now.

  5. Will the real Taqueria please stand up?

If you live in Downtown Jersey City or just like to pretend you live in our amazing neighborhood then you might be surprised to learn that there is another and totally different Taqueria from the one you're probably thinking of!

Taqueria Viva Mexico Kitchen Cafe (say that ten times fast) is super casual and almost has the appearance of a fast food joint. But don't let appearances dissuade you from stopping – they serve authentic Mexican food… with a major kick!

Started with chips, salsa, and guacamole – all really good. We asked for some hot sauce as well and they gave us two hot sauces – the one was equivalent to consuming a fire.

We ordered the fish tacos (grilled tilapia) to split, they were really good! I wish they had a little more radish on them, but nevertheless they were tasty. We also went a little wild and ordered something I've never even heard of… Chilaquiles! We ordered the Grilled Cajun Shrimp Chilaquiles with the green sauce. They're like a delicious cross between nachos and an enchilada (two amazing things). It didn't look too amazing but was absolutely delicious and SUPER SUPER SPICY – my mouth was ready to fall off but it hurt sooooo good.

We'll definitely be back when we want cheap Mexican food!
    They're also BYOB!

  6. Humble and casual spot, friendly service, and good food at fair prices. Quick and thoughtful service. Very good jalapeño and cheese tamales, tasty shrimp tacos, and flavorful tacos al pastor. Chips with guacamole were okay, guac was a bit on the bland side. Overall, a great local option for Mexican food.

  7. So glad we ate here tonight. The soft tacos (must be homemade) are incredible especially the skirt steak. I also enjoyed the lamb, beef tongue and carnitas but the steak stole the show. It comes with homemade chili sauces.  The salsa (with chips) is the best I have ever had anywhere!!  The tamarind drink is delicious. I cannot wait to return to try a burrito and for breakfast (which by way is served in the morning…not all day). The key is that everything is fresh and homemade and you can taste that freshness! It was a beautiful summer evening and we ate outside on a quiet peaceful street.

  8. One taco, two tacos, three tacos FULL… oof full and satisfied is how I left Taqueria Viva Mexico.

What an adorable Taqueria located in the middle of the Paulus Hook area. They have such a great variations of tacos to choose from cactus tacos to lengua tacos (yes, tongue tacos.. say that 3 times fast, I dare you.) You can really go crazy and pick from 12 various tacos for your Taco Tuesday pleasure. I'm not bold so I just ordered the pollo enchilada taco and the chorizo taco. Topped with cilantro and onion and accompanied with lemon and sliced radish it really made for the perfect combination. They also have two different hot sauces depending on how spicy you enjoy your meal.

I was told to come back and try the enchiladas and will definitely do so! The staff was really friendly and happy to suggest which tacos to order. It's also BYOB which is such a bonus.
