Cute place. Friendly staff. Everything was fresh and the wait wasn't very long. The jerk chicken was excellent. Rice and peas didn't really have much flavor. The cabbage had a more modern twist? There were mixed vegetables in with the cabbage which was very lightly sauteed. It was seasoned better than the rice but wasn't to my liking. I prefer the traditional way cabbage is prepared. This is a nice place but aside from the chicken and plantains, I left a lot of food on the plate.
GREAT DRINK! – HOMEMADE SORREL!
I never had Jamaican food before and after reading about some traditional dishes, we decided to order jerk chicken and jerk pork- doesn't sound too adventurous, right?
Anyways , we both enjoyed the dishes but my initial " jerk" reaction was, " where is the hardwood charcoal taste" ?
I had the dark meat part of the chicken and the seasoning was good but there wasn't a strong spicy kick with a hint of sweetness to it.
The red beans and rice dish was ok- I would say it's similar to the rest of the Caribbean countries surrounding Jamaica but not my personal favorite rice and beans.
Coleslaw was also ok- I am not a big fan on coleslaw but I think it was reasonable enough to pair with this tradition dish.
My favorite part of the experience was the drink we ordered to try, Homemade Sorrel.
It is a refreshing drink and I would definitely want to try to replicate this at home for summer drinks.
At the end of the night, I left satisfied. Service was friendly and charming. Place was small but clean and tidy. The Music was interesting but acceptable. =)
I did leave thinking …..
"Perhaps a dry rub would have been better for a bit more extreme spicy experience and perhaps there are many versions of jerk chicken in Jamaica , Maybe I will be back….." =)
Service was slow , rude and horrible …. wanted Jamaican food- got a Groupon and maybe that's why they treat customers bad!!!
Took forever and they act like they're busy knowing damn well they're slow because they've been on Groupon since they opened.
Got some oxtails ,cabbage, rice and peas …
Oxtails were hard as a rock I thought for sure I lost a couple of teeth- and had no flavor,
The cabbage was oily, tasteless and had cheap frozen vegetables in it.. rice and peas I don't even know where to start!
Hubby got jerk chicken which was just burnt and inedible , rice and peas…
Both meals were just plain disgusting even the sweet plantains were bad – they were just hard! And not sweet like how do u mess up sweet plantains??? This restaurant almost made me cry because all of the food went straight to the garbage and not even a starved dog would eat the food they would just run away which- I should of done and (which should be the name of the restaurant) RUN AWAY instead of Tasting IT…
Taste it again? No thanks!!! How about you try the food before SELLING IT!
No don't do it please don't do it!!! Don't taste it not even once you will be extremely disappointed!!!
Tasted Taste It Again for the first time this past weekend. What's with the name anyway? The sign at the restaurant reads "Tasteit," not "Taste it." So are we spelling it wrong or are they spelling it wrong? Pretty bad business for them if they are. Pretty dumb of us if we are.
Anyway …
We went here with a $21 Groupon for two drinks (non-alcoholic), an appetizer and two entrees. Silly Nathaly V. opted for a soda while I drank what she wished she had ordered: the homemade sorrel. If you've never had it, do yourself a favor and just go here and get one for the road. It's made with hibiscus and ginger, and Nathaly V. doesn't even like ginger. This concoction was by far the best part of the experience. Ya mon.
As for the jerk chicken and jerk pork, I'm glad I went with the pork. It was just a little spicier than the chicken, but even though we both ordered our dishes spicy, neither was really spicy. The rice and beans were cooked just fine, but didn't leave me with a 'wow' factor. The fried plantains made for a nice combo, but weren't anything special. As for the cole slaw, it was interesting and rather distinct.
We figure we saved about $13 on the total with the Groupon, but we were thrown for a loop when our server told us she included the gratuity for just the two of us. I can understand if she didn't want to get hosed on the tip considering we went with a Groupon, but that left me with somewhat of a bad impression. Between that and the food not blowing me away, I probably won't be tasting it again.
