  1. Okay, Tastee Pattee's name is a lie. It was never that tasty to begin with and now it's just crap. Recently bought a chicken patty -which I once raved about and I had to toss it into a sidewalk trashcan. Bit into my patty and the "substance" that shot out was mustard yellow and similar in taste and texture to pureed squash. There's no forgiving that. I have ZERO knowledge of Caribbean cooking but I'm convinced I could make a better chicken patty at home. Also as I mentioned in my first review, the staff here has really STANK attitudes. They all talk to you and hand you your order as if they were dishing out food to prisoners from cellblock 6. Sneers, eye rolls and nasty tasting food are three reasons why Tastee Pattee has lost me as a customer for good!

  2. I actually come here often , but have never tried the patties. It's a solid spot for a quick meal under $10. Go for any of the following :
     Curry chicken
     Goat stew
     BBQ chicken
     Jerk Chicken

The smallest box portion is more than enough and cheaper than the next size up and I would argue it's the same portion size. Very filling. The larger plate just has more rice and peas. A plate comes with rice and peas (mixed together: peas are kidney red beans ) and cabbage with your choice of "gravy" over the rice. Oh and plantain if you're lucky. It's touch and go whether they have any sometimes. I normally get the goat broth over my rice. I can't compare this to other Carribbean spots in terms of flavor but it certainly tastes good enough and hits the spot always. This is my normal weekday go to. I would avoid the Mac n cheese though as it's not the typical American kind that I would expect and it's always on the drier non cheesy side and lacks in flavor.

While the ppl who work there may seem rude , I've found them helpful enough. Though they're not that warm either. Granted when there is a long line I don't get too chatty but otherwise I ask any and ALL of the questions that I need answering about any of the hot foods on the menu that day, with no issue. Also I'm not looking for a best friend there either… So I don't have any complaints on the service, lol.

  3. The Beef Patties today was HORRIBLE. Purchased 6 for my family and I and no one was able to eat it. Horrible after taste. I called numerous times and no one answered the phone. The Tastees Restaurant on Rockaway is the best. This place ain't no damn Tastees. Also purchased a small Oxtail that had no seasoning. I hate to go out my way to purchase food and gave a horrible experience.

  4. My go to jamaican spot. I always get jerk pork.  The baked chicken and jerk chicken are really good .I have gotten the oxtails before and to me the sauce is sweet not something i care for. The plates are inexpensive. The food is not horrible its always enjoyable. But this past saturday i didnt really enjoy it like i normally do. Maybe it was a different cook. You know the smell the rice gets when some of the rice gets burnt… Thats exactly how my rice tasted. The customer service at one point sucked. There was always a guy there that would give people the nastiest attitudes for no reason. Correct me if im wrong but if you dont like your job do us a favor and quit.

  5. So I recently moved to this neighborhood and I've been looking for a decent Jamaican restaurant. Needless to say I was disappointed by what was to offer in the area until a friend of mine told me about Tastee. My go to meal at any Jamaican restaurant is Oxtail with Rice and Peas, because if you cant make that to perfection then I need not to come back. IT WAS AMAZING. I tore up that large plate, to the point that I was in a coma afterwards. I will be here very very frequently. The rice was perfect as well. they definitely have the best chef's in the kitchen. I highly recommend this spot.

I was so satisfied that the next day I purchased a Ackee and Saltfish breakfast for my mom who was in town visiting, and she was highly impressed.

  6. Nasty service . I was just here , don't go 🙂 save your money and go to golden krust down the block that takes credit cards and has an ac

  7. I used to go ocasionally first 2 years it opened.  Food is tasty but the rice is spotty.  Sometimes I have gotten hard pieces (undercooked) mixed with the cooked rice  I can't understand how they can't get how to cook rice correctly.

  8. I love this place. The Jerk chicken is well seasoned and so is the oxtail and Jerk pork. It may not be the best Jamaican spot in Brooklyn, but it certainly is the best in the neighborhood!
