  1. Tasty Dumpling holds a spot near and dear to my heart.

There are many weeknights that I have been in the area looking for a quick meal. From the fried dumplings, to boiled dumplings, to soup, and lo mein, you are guaranteed a fulfilling fix from Tasty Dumpling and at an affordable/cheap price ($4 for 6 big dumplings!?). My go-to is the Vegetable Boiled Dumplings.

The owners and servers are delightful. The clientele is random, from high schoolers to cops to couples. I usually stop in for pick up but if you stay in to sit you can get a pleasant view of Columbus Park and the residential neighborhood.

  2. I was looking for cheap but satisfying food after a workout when I remember that there was a dumpling restaurant near Columbus park.

I went in, ordered #1 pork and chives pan seared dumplings ($1.25 for 5 dumplings), paid and left in under 2mins.  Gotta love the quick efficient manner of the lady at the register.

I know I negated my workout by eating dumplings, but man were they delicious!  The meat was juicy and very flavorful while the outer wrapper layer was seared to crispness.

Vinegar and diluted Sriracha is on the tables, but the dumplings didn't really need those extra additions.

There's seating inside the restaurant or you can get it to go and eat outside in the park.

  3. Like the name implies, these dumplings are pretty tasty. If you order the fried dumplings, they have a heated batch already cooked and waiting for customers to buy. The chive and pork dumplings are delicious. They have a generous amount of filling and are quick to receive customers and get their order. All oily but hey, how often do you get a chance to eat this all for under $5? I would definitely come back. It makes for a great cheap and easy lunch. There's a few tables in case you want to sit down, eat and go.

  4. Who wants discount dumplings? Although I'm a Brooklyn kid and Kai Feng dumpling house on 48th st has a special place in my heart, whenever I'm in CT, I head to this joint. Their dumplings are 5 for $1 {the Chive/pork combo, the only one you should get}. I think these are better than that hipsterised Vanessa Dumpling bullshit, and it's right across the Columbus Park that I still frequent. Wonderful location, quick, and tasty if you need a fast bite. Enjoy!

  5. The hot and sour soup is one of the best value hot and sour soups in Chinatown. However, the chicken and corn soup is totally not worth it – mostly corn starch thicken broth with no ground chicken.

  6. Sorry not sorry. Unfortunately this place should remain as a high school sweetheart. This was the dumpling joint I would frequent back in high school and it was only $1.25($1.00) for 5 pieces of dumpling. What made this place so great? Personally, I believe it was the soy sauce with vinegar…

Confession: my dumplings would always be soaaaaked with soy sauce..

What happened? Guess I was just turned off by the pieces of fat that was in the dumpling. I just… couldn't..  *shivers*

Welp, after all these years, at least the price didn't increase like crazy. And they did renovate the place with more seating..

  7. Let me just start off by saying that my go-to dumpling place in Chinatown is Vanessa's Dumpling House. My boyfriend and I were walking around Chinatown and we were starving so we decided to try this place out. We looked at the menu and prices and everything was reasonably cheap. Place was kinda packed so we figured this might be a low key hot spot in the area.

We ordered 3 pork and chive fried dumplings, a vegetable pancake and a beef soup. Our dumplings came out first and they were pretty hard and super greasy. I had to grab a napkin just to soak up all the excess grease. My boyfriend made a comment and said something along the lines of "these don't look fresh, they've been sitting out for awhile." Bummer. The vegetable pancake was average, just like any other dumpling place. The beef soup however was delicious. The beef was sooooo soft and tasty. I do recommend ordering the soups here.

Not sure if I would come back here. If I do, it's for their $5 soup (that was worth it). My review is more like 2 stars but bumped it up to 3 because it was cheap and the soup was good.

  8. A meal that was pretty good, filling enough, very quick and under $5 including a Snapple! Only a shame that they burned my fried pork and chive dumpling order, but the flavor was still quite good.

The sauces that you choose from are a hot sauce and a sauce that initially appears to be soy (which is what I'd really have preferred), but is actually a vinegar-based sauce.

It's nice that they've got seating which frequently becomes communal because the place is rather small.
