Tatiana Grill
“Awesome place to eat on the boardwalk and watch the very eclectic crowd walk by.”
“to the green borscht (think vichysoisse with spinach and herbs) to the mysterious dish my sweetheart ordered.”
“Russians do tend to use butter and dill, and leave bones in, which can turn some people off but that's just part of the cuisine.”

3.5 stars. The food is actually pretty good, and I liked that I was dining in an authentic Russian/Brighton Beach setting and all. But, the service sort of failed. I came with my bestie (who is Russian). Be prepared to seated right away (they are aggressive about getting you to sit down) and in fairness- they do have really nice al fresco tables facing the boardwalk. But, the meal will be loooong because they sort of just..going away and the meal drags on. I had to get the attention of the waitress a few times.
Their menu is really extensive, from Russian specialties (which I recommend) to burgers, to salads, to even sushi (very diner-y). The clientele seems mostly Russian though, or tourists that venture to get their Russian fix on. I had the cold borsct which was actually probably the best borsct I've ever had- it was really clean tasting and perfect with sour cream. Lots of dill, perfectly raw beets- simple and good with a nice, herby broth.
I followed up with the pelmini which is basically meat pierogis (but shaped more like tortellini- also had a side of sour cream). These were good- a little too soaked in water but cooked well and flavorful. It's hard to have big pierogis. They had a bunch of veg options, called varekski (totally messing the spelling), with cheese, potato, cherry. (Speaking of cherry- I had compote, which was a non alcoholic cherry juice, very good and not too sweet). I was kind of mad the server did not ask if I wanted these together since my friend only ordered a cheeseburger.
Which brings me to the bad service. She asked for a cheeseburger (which they call, cheese stuffed burger) and the problem with this is the cheese is stuffed insider the burger which is a) weird and b) I guess, hard to do medium well or well done. That's how my friend asked for it but it came out really rare, and almost bloody which turned her off. When we brought this up, the waitress sort of looked at us like "I told them medium well, too bad." Hm. Clearly not the hospitable response one would expect when their order is messed up.
Finally, we then asked for it again- this time, the double burger (two patties) and they made it extremely well done since we were displeased.
Perhaps the best part of the meal was the complimentary bread (which I had to ask for)- it's some kind of grilled (well the crust was grilled) spelt/rye bread. They have something similar at Le Pain (but their isn't grilled). Delish.
Came to $25 per person all in. The entrees are really pricey so if you get those expect more. I would come here to enjoy the view and the Russian food is good but expect this to be on the touristy side and/or catering to Russian clientele.
Need place. Very cool ambiance, considering you are sitting on the boardwalk. Staff was super rude and awkward though and the food, although it was pretty good, didn't make up for it.
Tatiana Grill a great outdoor venue. Menu has something for everyone! Buratta on point, creamy and delicious!
Caviar perfect on a summer evening!
Wait staff, particularly, Illia, was wonderful! He helped with the menu, always there when we needed him with a smile!
Overall experience to be repeated!
BLUF: Relatively pricey for the type of dishes but offset by an amazing view and atmosphere.
A few friends and I were in Brighton Beach to practice a little " " and enjoy the cultural experience. As we were walking down the beach front, we decided to stop and eat lunch. I was a bit apprehensive of Tatiana's Grill as the reviews were not the best but it was not very crowded and my friends insisted, so we went in.
There is sheltered patio seating as well as indoor seating with the prior having a great view out to the ocean where we sat.
I ordered the Pozharksy Chicken Cutlets as my main course. It was my first experience with this Russian cuisine and I well pleasantly pleased. The dish came out with two cutlets, a side salad, and mashed potatoes. The cutlets were fried with crispy breading and the chicken was hot and moist. There was a mushroom cream sauce on top which was savory and the left overs worked well as a gravy substitute. The salad was ordinary greens with balsamic vinegar and the potatoes were as expected as well.
For dessert, I had the strawberry rhubarb pie. The crust was delicious and the strawberries quite fresh. The serving size was easily 1.5-2. Made quite an ending for a filling breakfast on the boardwalk.
Overall, will return, granted my pockets are feeling full.
ive always wanted to go to brighton beach during the winter and in the early part of this year i finally made it happen. the beach was beautiful, not too busy at all, and definitely not overcrowded with tourists. with that said, i still figured tatiana would be a bit americanized.
as we sat down, our waitress asked "vodka or tea?" seemed pretty authentic to me. furthermore, we were the only table seated that was not part of the private family party (there would be live music and a keyboard player later).
we tried the $15 lunch special which came with: tomato house salad (lots of olive oil), red borscht (warm and perfect) with sour cream, and the meat crepes. i loved the meat crepes. while some things i found to be oily, the meat crepes were the lightest alternative on the menu.
in the winter, brighton beach and the super conveniently located tatiana grill was the perfect escape for us to leave the city and travel to a world very much like russia.
Wish there was negative stars! Stay away from here if you're in New York. Even if they have good food they don't deserve your money! Went in while in nyc for girls weekend. The nice guy at the front invited us in and say us in back. There was apparently a funeral reception going on. The waitress was extremely rude and inpatient. They have pictures of things that they don't wven serve. We were asking her questions about the menu and she responded with "look ladies I'm really busy right now so either you order or im leaving and ill come back when youve made up your mind!" We were the only customers in there besides the maybe 12 people for the funeral engagement. We got our stuff and walked out told her if she was too busy for customers we would go else where! Went to Skovorodka down the street and were so happy for the decision.
This place is so cute and colorful and it's right on the boardwalk on Brighton Beach. My brother, his gf and I came for some quick lunch after a long afternoon on the beach. The service was OK, our waiter was nice but he barely smiled and never came back to check on us which was weird. I got a simple salad which was OK, the chicken was a little dry… My brother got shrimp cocktail and some other weird appetizer that looked good. Overall everything was good, it's very convenient because it's literally a few steps off the beach and they serve alcohol! I would go back but I would order something different
Love this place. Right on the boardwalk. Food is amazing, pretty much everything I tried was awesome and delicious. The prices are a little more expensive, but hey, for me, the food was worth the price.
Great place to sit, relax, unwind, and people watch on the boardwalk. Only issue was it took forever to get the check, but the experience was so good I am still giving it 5 stars, especially for an outdoors sitting.
