If you're not a Greek fan, give this place a try. Really, I'm pretty sure there's a high probability you would will change your distaste for the cuisine. I had the stuffed grape leaves which is something I never really order at any mediterranean restaurants but TK's I can't stop popping them into my mouth. Bite sized pieces of yumminess. Salad is also something I rarely order, they're just take up space in my stomach but the huge blocks of feta cheese is what makes the salad worth it. For our main course, we had the sea bass grilled and served with olive oil and lemon potatoes.
WARNING: Don't load up on the bread! I know it's good, you'll run out of room in your belly.
Outstanding Greek food. Unbelievably fresh and authentic.
Came Saturday mid afternoon with my mom for an early Mother's Day lunch. When I asked what restaurant she wanted to go to she said "somewhere in Queens." So we ventured 40 minutes away and waited another 40 minutes or so for a table. My mom said afterward that it was the best lunch she had in a while.
You must start with the peasant salad. It was the most incredible salad. Simple but huge (we ordered the small – $10.50). The block of fresh feta on top was perfect. I was never a fan of the crumbly feta served on "Greek salad" at regular places. This feta was life changing.
Also, I got a lunch special ($12.85) – grilled chicken with a side of lemon potatoes. First of all, WHAT are these portions?! My meal was giant, especially given the fact that it was a lunch special. I expected the grilled chicken and potatoes to be basic. It was anything but basic….. so ridiculously flavorful.
Now for the highlight:
My mom ordered the "Kyclades Special" – included a lobster tail, stuffed clams, stuffed shrimp, scallops, and another kind of fish. And a side (she got lemon potatoes as well) For $39.95… what… She would not stop raving about this and ended up bringing half of it home for dinner. I am allergic to seafood of all type so obviously I only got to look/take photos.
Another thing, everyone in the restaurant seemed to be ordering the grilled octopus. We didn't get it (my allergies) but it seems like a specialty here.
AND the service was just as great as the food! Both the hostess and our server were so gracious and attentive. I really don't have a single complaint.
Truthfully, this was my first *real* Greek meal and Taverna Kyclades set the standard high. Will be returning for sure.
Great bustling authentic Greek – whole de-boner branzino was the highlight. And the free yogurt for dessert. I make better gigantes at home. Prices were amazing. $63 for two – no alcohol, and we were stuffed. Note: cash tips only. Service was inattentive, though the host was nice.
King of seafood if you are in the mood for Greek seafood! All the fish octopus calamari are so fresh. It feels like they just caught the seafood and cooked it on the spot. This is a very popular restaurant so I suggest you don't try to walk in without reservations on a Friday and/or weekend. They offer both indoors and outdoors seating since they have a garden. Street parking on a busy street so spare extra time to look for parking if you have a reservation and driving in. Excellent place, ENJOY!
This is the place to go for seafood. My boyfriend and I got the massive sampler platter and it was wayy too much food for two people. Authentic Mediterranean food. There are waits of 1-2 hours on weekend nights, even at 9pm, so make a reservation… and definitely mention if you're Mediterranean 😉 We sat out on the heated patio during the winter and it was pretty warm!
Food is worth the wait. And trust me – there will be a long wait. Especially if you do what we did, which was to go there with a big group of people on a warm Saturday night. Once we got seated, we got the party started with some of the BEST grilled octopus I've ever had in my life and equally fresh and delicious Greek salad. All the apps we got to share were great, including the stuffed grape leaves, the yogurt cucumber garlic dip (aka tzatziki), taramosalata and skordalia.
My lamb chops were great, just a tad bit salty. Very reasonably priced. A very authentic taste of Greek food. If you get one thing here, get the grilled octopus, it really is moist and tender, you'll want a whole plate of it to yourself. They also bring you a yogurt/sour cherry dessert on the house.
I simply had an appetizer, as a dinner option. I ordered grilled clams. What!!!!!!!! Off the radar. So good, so fresh, seasoned to perfection. The flavors of the Mediterranean come alive as soon as you slurp these delish clamsies, olive oil, garlic. The service gets another nod, if I told you that I went on a busy, packed Saturday night and the waiter and staff always attentive to our needs, filled our glass with water, cleared the table of obstructive dinner ware. Simply, amazing, experience *baklava and all.
*It was a friend's bday, and they brought out these morsels, you guys rock.
10/10: So, I recently yelped about my favorite NYC Thai restaurant and shortly after I can safely say this is the most legit Greek restaurant I have come across in NYC! I know that the lines can be long (as they should be!) but this place is worth it. We somehow didn't have to wait on my first visit and everything thereafter from the service, food and atmosphere were awesome. This go around I had the beans with tomato sauce app, peasant salad, quail and sole stuffed with crab meat and had not a single complaint. Just as a heads up they only accept cash tips.
