  1. Being on a commercial and scruffy part of route 4, I didn't expect Taverna Mykonos would be so classy and modern.  It's a great place for a dinner date with a significant other or with friends.

The menu offers some traditional and some modern Greek dishes.  For starters my friend and I shared the keftedes (meatballs), Saganaki (FRIED CHEESE), Skordalia (garlic potato spread), and grilled octopus.  Everything was delectable.  The standout for me was definitely the Saganaki.  Thick blocks of cheese (like halloumi) pan fried then drizzled with olive oil and lemon.  It had a nice golden crust and slightly melted interior. Perfect for cheese lovers.  The grilled octopus was fresh and tender, served simply with capers, olive oil, vinegar.

For entree we shared the whole Branzini which they deboned for us.  The fish was grilled and prepared with lemon, olive oil, and some seasoning.  It was simple, maybe a bit too simple for me.  Perhaps if we kept the fish whole, instead of deboned, it would have had more sauce/flavor.

The service was excellent.  Our server was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu.  The restaurant has a modern, Mediterranean, artistic design providing a nice ambiance.  The pricing is a bit high, so it's a place I would go for a special night out.  Overall, I would say one of the best Greek restaurants in the area.

  2. Taverna Mykonos is an upscale Greek restaurant with good food located right in Elmwood Park. They have loads of fish dishes along with some meat (lamb & steak) as well as traditional Mousaka, gyro (yes they have that) and souvlaki.
Starter – Greek Salad shared by the 4 of us but really enough for 2 of us. It was nice for them to offer a sharing portion and I should have ordered 2. Traditional salad with their Mykonos vinaigrette.
Entrees – I wasn't feeling fish so I decided on the chicken souvlaki. The chicken was tender and seasoned with Greek spices (Thumbs up). The rice on the side was a little to be desired. My wife had the lamb shank which she was pleased with. Other dishes were the sea bass special which they loved and the filet mignon which received an "meh" response.
Dessert – Trio of gelato's…were a hit. Bailey's, Dulce de leche and cookies/cream. Their were others which we skipped.
Drinks – I tried their Greek lager which tasted like coors and their 25oz donkey something or other which comes out in a champagne looking bottle. It was ok and apparently I was the first to have one for myself.
Service – Was very good. The assistants were great as well. Cups were filled timely.
Overall I would give this place 3.5 stars.

  3. Very good establishment. All staff were friendly and professional. The Shrimp Mykonos was very good. Stuffed Salmon was amazing. Swordfish Steak was solid. The atmosphere was very relaxed and we loved it. My only knock is the price. Over $20 for 4 pieces of shrimp was a little much, but I don't regret the order. I would definitely return.

  4. Delicious and authentic Greek food.  Lovely bright and comfortable.  We met friends here for lunch and everyone loved what they ordered.  We started off with some very good hummus and warm fresh pita bread.  Our other appetizer was a delicious saganaki with honey that was fantastic.   I got the pastichio and it was outstanding and such a huge portion I barely made it through half of it.   Hubby got the Horyatiki salad with chicken and said it was great.   Friends each got different Gyro dishes that they also enjoyed very much.  We had no room for dessert but the table was given delicious Greek cookies with powdered sugar.   Nice finish to a good meal.   Thank you Ashley for your excellent service and patience.  We were meeting friends we hadn't seen for a while and stayed to chat fora while yet at no time did we feel rushed.  Nice place, nice people and great food.

  5. The interior is elegant to say the least. White walls. High end decor. Perfectly dim lighting. Immaculate.

The food is also outstanding. Had the octopus, meatballs with tomato sauce, and Greek fries. The octopus was light, simple and fresh, served with onions and capers. The meatballs were nicely seasoned, but the tomato sauce was out of this world. Ask for some extra marble bread to soak it up if you don't have any left after the first complimentary round.

The Greek fries weren't so Greek, if you ask me. They lacked serious lemon and oregano and they were served like normal fries whereas I'm accustomed to seeing them in rounds in most other Greek places. The shape wasn't so much the issue though as was the lack of seasoning. Also, they were served with ketchup versus tzatziki sauce. But hey, at least they tasted good and fresh.

Their take on a mojito was also delicious. I like the addition of the raspberries.

The baklava here is amazing. A must try, and frankly, only one of 2 or 3 authentic Greek desserts on the menu anyway.

Overall, the bar service was as outstanding as the food and ambiance. My only knock is this: I couldn't help but to notice the carelessness of the valet leaving customers' car keys out in the open while he was nowhere in sight. Word of advice: don't fall for it and just park on the road. It's one hour parking only until 6:00 so you're good.

  6. Always good . Always fresh. Great staff . Never disappointing . We had 3 dips
and octopus as apps . Entrees was Chilean sea bass special with champagne risotto and the soft shell crabs ! Highly recommend all our choices.

  7. I might have given this restaurant 5 stars but the service was slow as hell, the waiter was nice about it but it should have never taken that long at lunch with less than 10 people in the place.

Lets start with the bread, amazing. It was hot, soft on the inside with a nice crunchy crust. It was a white bread with a pumpernickel center circle. The olive oil was great as well, earthy, not overpowering, but still a nice olive finish.

I ordered the moussaka and it was unbelievable, the zucchini cooked to perfection, potatoes were soft, and the ground beef was seasoned to perfection. The bechamel sauce was incredible too. My friend got the gyro,…how american lol. The meat tender not salty and the fries were fried to perfection, golden, but extremely light.

  8. Best Greek cuisine I've ever had! And better yet, it's located right in my town.
Came here for a weekday lunch for the lunch specials. We had the greek meatballs and souvlaki. Both were really good. I loved how they give greek bread with olive oil for starter.
