Came during low tide and found the food to actually be pretty good.  The burger was nice and juicy and fries were very tasty.  Would come back.  Borderline ***/**** for me.

  2. Relatively new restaurant in Chelsea along the 8th avenue strip of restaurants. The place is okay. Not amazing, but not awful. The place tries to be a hip Mexican place, but can't seem to get the ambience right.

The acoustics in the restaurant are horrible. Music is too loud and the room echoes people's voices. So you are hearing people scream through out the restaurant. Definitely not cute for date night. Your seating options are typical New York. Small tables along a bench although the place is relatively big. They could've done better.

Food and service wise was also just okay. The menu lacks classic Mexican items and then throws in random items like a burger. The guacamole was way to lemon flavored and the chips were stale. I would recommend the quesadillas and add chicken to them. We also ordered the fish tacos which were overly fried and the cabbage slaw was just too heavy. Overall the food was okay, but nothing I would go back for. We skipped dessert.

  3. Temerario is a fine Mexican establishment in Chelsea but the food didn't particularly stand out when I went for dinner. This is more a 3.5 stars.

I don't eat Mexican food that often and Temerario popped up in my radar due to their signature burger with black brioche buns. It's what I ordered because I love a good burger. The brioche buns get the dark color from a Chile ash and in between those buns is a short rib patty, Negro Modelo morita, manzano cream. On the side you get crispy fries which were good. I enjoyed the burger because it was cooked well and juicy. However, the buns were disappointing. They were dry and had a chewier texture than expected. Also the whole thing is a little difficult to eat. When it comes to burger construction, I don't like biting into a burger and the stuff between the buns just plop out of the sides. I'm sure I'm not the only one that doesn't like that.

Aside from the burger, my friend and I ordered the Lupillas to share. The Lupillas are croquette balls (you get 5) with longaniza sausage and manchego cheese. They were crunchy, delicious, and had an awesome kick to them especially with the manzano cream. I would come back for those for sure.

The place itself is lively and the walls are fun with colorful grafitti featuring luchadors. It sure stands out and it isn't obtrusive either. The service did a fine job as well. Now that I've tried the burger, I probably wouldn't get it again but I'd be back to try the other stuff on the menu especially those croquettes. Happy eating and remember: Don't deny, satisfy!

  4. Came here on a whim, looking for some place that was open late at night serving food. Loved the food and drinks here. Ordered fish tacos, one of the best! The service was great, we were seated immediately and the atmosphere enabled us to carry on conversation without interruption from loud music or crowds. Highly recommend!

  5. While I enjoyed my meal at Temerario, the service wasn't that great and the meal wasn't absolutely amazing. From the beginning, the service was lacking. The hostess sat us in this corner booth where two people at other tables had to get up from their seats to let us in. Mind you there were other empty spaces.

Then as for my server was the only server on staff during the brunch so it took her forever to take our order and never came back to check on us. I had to go to the bar to order my own drink and ask the hostess for hot sauce.

I had the huevos rancheros as my entree and a side of fried sweet plantains. The huevos rancheros was good but nothing amazing, just like others I've tried. The sweet fried plantains were flavorless and fried a little too hard.

Thankfully, I purchased a $30 Pulsd deal so I got my monies worth. However, if I were paying the menu value, I would have been completely unsatisfied. I didn't have the worst time or the best time so I probably won't be visiting again!

  6. Came here with a few coworkers for dinner, walked in around 6pm and got a table right away.  The inside is awesome it is like banksy meets Tijuana?! The seat I was in was extremely close to another table so I found it a bit annoying that every time the waiter needed to reach to serve the customers, my bag got hit or my shoulder got brushed.  I was very excited to try this place and probably annoying to our waitress because I kept asking her what was the best drink, what was the best entree etc.

It was a hard choice as all the dishes sounded amazing but I really was intrigued by the black burger.

We started with a round of micheladas, get these…highly recommend!  Guacamole was good, nothing extraordinary but definitely hit the spot in terms of snacking while waiting.

Everyone at our table ordered different dishes, chile rellano, fish tacos, the burger and a bunch of appetizers.

The burger was good and surprisingly the portion was decent…even came with a cup of fries!

I'm really happy this place opened as I'm a black ant fan.  I'm definitely going back for brunch and to try more dishes!

  7. Because I didn't love my experience at Black Ant a year ago, I had low expectations for its sister restaurant.  My two girlfriends and I had dinner at Temerario on a Saturday night.  I ordered the Paloma to drink (grapefruit tequila cocktail) which was fine, but I recommend you get the jalapeno Margarita (my friend had it and it was delicious).

We chose a few dishes to share: Chamoy Salad (so sour/salty we couldn't even eat it), Chicharrones de Carrito, Cevichin (tomato base overpowers the snapper), Aguachile de Callos (bay scallops / best choice), and the Bolillo (mexican bread).

In all honesty, I was not impressed by anything we ate that night.  Not recommended.

  8. We were on a burger quest last night due to a recent spate of "best burgers in NYC" articles, I'm looking at you Eater, and the picture of the burger at Temerario looked pretty darn tasty. We walked in around 8:00 with no rese and were seated right away. The place is super casual with a friendly Chelsea vibe. They had a great soundtrack on and everyone was super chill. We started with margaritas, I had the smoky jalapeno which was good, nothing out of this world but definitely drinkable. We shared some guacamole which again was good, a bit on the small size with only a few chips, but not spicy enough for me. If you like spicy ask for the hot stuff on the side, very good. My peeps all ordered the burger and I got the fish tacos, I'm 3 months into the annoying vegetarian thing. I'm not a huge breaded fish taco fan but I'll give these some props, they weren't greasy, the batter had a nice crunch and there was some sort of spicy sauce that tied the simple taco all together. The garlic fries that come with the burger were fantastic, I was stealing them off my mans plate and he was shooting me a death stare because of it. The burgers were all ordered medium rare and I noticed my bf's was a little too well for me, had I ordered it, and although he agreed he still thought it was one of the best burgers in the city, the front runner still being the Clocktower. Hat's off to a Mexican restaurant for having one of the best burgers in NYC!
