  1. After a day of boozy brunching it up, I wanted something quick and filling for dinner. There are two Mexican spots on Halsey and I went with Tepache.

I usually go for a chicken burrito but decided to step outside the box and get the picante shrimp burrito. The burrito was filled with jumbo shrimp, rice, black beans, tomato & guacamole. It was very delicious & packed with flavor!

My friend ordered the steak quesadilla which she said was also delicious and the portion was very hefty.

Now on to service, my friend placed her order immediately upon entering. I wasn't quite sure and the phone was ringing so I told the cashier she could take the call. I didn't want to hold up their business. Once she was done, I preceded to place my order and I was met with a horrible attitude. As I waited for my order, my friends & I chatted. We heard "shh", from behind the counter as if our talking was a problem. From that point on, it went completely downhill. I wanted to say something but didn't want them to tamper with my food so I kept quiet. She then called Ashlee and I went to get what I thought was my order. Very rudely, she said "not you", as if I knew there was another Ashlee waiting. When she finally called my name, after calling all the other orders which were placed on the counter after mine, I got my food & promised to never return.

I wanted to give Tepache five stars because the food was delicious but the since service was awful, I could only give two!

  2. When a mean Mexican hunger comes along, you must simply satisfy it. And that is what I did.

After an early mediocre breakfast at Dunkin Donuts, I sought after something highly satisfying and filling. My burrito from Tepache was just that. I'm about an 8 minute walk from here so I placed an order for pickup through Eat 24. Even ended up calling the restaurant to add something to the order and did so with no issues. The place isn't very big, but nothing close to a hole in the wall. There are window seats as well as seating along the wall opposing the register and food prep area. My food pickup was quick and painless. The vibe here seemed pretty relaxed and I most certainly plan on returning. Really happy to see some solid, moderately priced mexican food so close to home.

Last but not least, the beast that is..er..was my chicken burrito. It's $8.50 and guac is included. Need I say more? I actually will… this burrito was heavy. Large and heavy. Like an "I got everything at Chipotle" banger with a smaller price tag 😉 It was flavourful and filling, the chicken was seasoned well and I'm impressed. My mother had two carne asada tacos and her one complaint was that the meat was too fatty. Regardless, she did enjoy them and had no complaints otherwise.

If you're in Bed Stuy and craving Mexican, this place is the way to go. I avoided delivery upon seeing some unhappy reviews and was satisfied with my decision. No one likes a cold burrito.

  3. Bomb food, excellent service and literal baby-sized burritos.  The Halsey with chipotle tofu + veggies, sour cream and no lettuce is my go-to order.  Super veggie taco is also delish.  I'll keep coming back.

  4. Tepache nachos with chicken are the sole reason I get my butt to spin class. They are so good it's well worth an hour of pain to eat them. We usually order TOGO from here, but it always arrives fresh, hot and not soggy. Nachos are easy to mess up with delivery because they get soggy so fast, especially when wrapped up, but they do a great job and they are always crispy all the way to the bottom. I've also had the ala cart tacos and burritos from here and have never had a bad meal. Delivery time is usually really quick as well. The one time we ordered takeout and actually went to the location I was surprised it was super cute inside and BYOB. If we didn't live on Halsey we would probably eat in more often than getting it delivered. Anyway this is for sure one of the top 3 Mexican spots in Bed Stuy.

  5. Good food but the service wins here. I appreciate kind and genuine people …like when their personality is so authentic and raw you just fall in love with them. I've been having a bad week and I'm starting to drool over people with good hearts and I think that's the type of staff Tepache has.

Enough of the soft stuff. I ordered fish quesadillas which came with the works. It was good and the fish was deeply seasoned to perfection, but I prefer my tortilla a bit more crispier. The beans need work because they were way too flavorless. I think I used a whole bottle of hot sauce on those bad boys. The rice was fantastic though. They give you these complimentary chips. Compliment is in complimentary right? Don't give me any chips that won't compliment the meal. Onion rings without the onion flavor (you guys hear the frustration in my tone or nah?). ANYWAY! The place is cute, the food is good for the price, and the service is amazing.

OH, OH OH…..I had the churros for dessert which I LOVED. That sauce that they provide you with to pour over your stick? Now thats COMPLIMENTARY!

  6. Tepache melds modern Mexican fare with friendly service for an experience that is as tasty as it is pleasant. I love how affordable and extensive the menu is, and the BYOB standing makes it a perfect spot for a cheap night out. The cactus tacos and chile relleno were enough to merit a second visit. I'm new to Bedstuy, but this place seems to consistently draw a crowd. It seems to be a welcome addition, and now that I'm moving here more permanently, I'm sure I'll be popping into Tepache a lot more often.

  7. I don't know what it is with me and Mexican food, but I just can't get enough of it. I've seen the Tepache burrito's and was blown away by how massive and heavy they are. Burritos like mini food weights!

Now, imagine my surprise when I find out the place isn't too far from my job and at $8.50 this was a no brainer!
The following day I made sure to order exactly what my friend had the night before, a Halsey Burrito with barbacoa. I also happened to talk my coworker into ordering with me and we were both pleased with the delivery of the food as well as how it tasted. Massive pillow size portion of burrito stuffed with flavorful and juicy meat, rice, guacamole, beans, lettuce/tomato and queso!! At first I said to myself this is enough food for lunch and dinner, but haha, nope. Both my coworker and I polished the burrito in one sitting, that's how good it was. I was sad to finish my food, but I'm currently dreaming of when I will eat it again.

Next time I might venture to try their tacos or nachos.

  8. A great restaurant that gives you plenty of bang for the buck. Their Halsey burrito is HUUGE and very delicious. The sauce that comes with it is spicy and I love spicy. Their grande quesadilla is truly grande as it includes yellow rice, refried beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream. They have a variety of meat fillings you can choose from. I'm so grateful for a place to exist like this in the neighborhood.
