Not impressed at all. Ordered chicken gumbo and chicken soup – total wait time was about 30 minutes- for soups! When they arrived it felt like that had been sitting in a microwave for the entire 30 minutes and tasted like SYSCO brands – definitely not homemade. They did come with cornbread, which was good. On the positive side, their portions are huge and the prices are cheap.
The broasted chicken is really good, crispy but not greasy and they give you nice big pieces of chicken. It will certainly satisfy your craving for fried chicken! The sides are meh.. especially the mac n cheese, it has no flavor, avoid it. (Bbq baked beans are not bad, as are the baked potatoes or mashed). They give you a ton of food and prices are pretty cheap for what you get. The 3 piece broasted chicken meal is $11.95 (Cheaper if you don't opt for white meat).. I get 2 meals out of it. Great bang for your buck and pretty darn yummy.
This review is for delivery.
I really like this place – its becoming my seamless staple takeout when I don't want Asian, Mexican, or Italian Food.
I like Texas because:
1) Its pretty solid "BBQ" – although I rarely get anything from there that would be considered BBQ.
2) The prices are fairly low comparatively. I get the blackened salmon for $14.95. It comes with 2 salmon filets and 2 sides. I never eat both pieces of fish, and I barely make it through half of each side. The diners surrounding my apartment sell salmon entrees for $20+
3) There is a HUGE variety of healthy, but good meat: Grilled, steamed, blackened, baked, broasted (fried pressure cooked) and about 40 different sides to choose from; ranging from healthy (steamed veggies) to endulging (mac&cheese)
Are you kidding me?
This place was absolutely horrible. They have giant Texas sized margaritas, I'll give you that, but the service is terrible and the food is… not good.
Waiter- How is everything?
The person sitting next at the table next to me- …Not good
Lol this guy had balls. But I mean, It wasn't good. The chicken was dry, it was expensive, I thought that the waiter forgot about us a few times. and then… SOMEONE ON THE BALCONY ABOVE US STARTED THROWING CHICKEN. WTF WAS THAT. Chicken came flying down near us and hit people at adjacent tables.
This place was packed, there was a line for the bathroom and I really couldn't hear anything.
Don't come here. I came here out of novelty (OOH A TEXAS BBQ PLACE IN NYC) but made a huge mistake. I should have just stuck with eating BBQ in Texas 🙁
I ordered some food here via seamless and the food came pretty quickly.
Mac n cheese – not too cheesy which is what I was looking for, but it hit the spot.
Creamed spinach – it was a little bland to be honest. I was looking for more taste and it could have used some salt.
Corn bread – okay
Mashed potatoes – this did not come with enough gravy. This was a small side dish and they put the gravy in the same container as the mash. They gravy was barely enough for a few bites.
Veggie Soup – the soup was extremely salty, but it was still tasty.
Fried chicken – the chicken hit the spot, but it wasn't anything special to make the trip here.
This place overall is just okay.
This meal exactly met my expectations. I was looking for a quick delivery with just enough chicken for one and a few sides to have a balanced meal after a workout. Texas Rotisserie was at my doorstep in 20 minutes with a quarter chicken (dark meat), potatoes with garlic and parsley and steamed vegetables (and a surprise cornbread muffin!). The chicken was nothing special. Slightly on the dry side and little to no seasoning on the skin. The potatoes were unreliable: an undercooked one here, an overcooked one there. The steamed vegetables tasted metallic and as though they came straight from the ground (well, the broccoli wasn't looking as fresh). Despite my gripes, the meal filled me up and has a lot of potential. When you put the price in perspective: $10 (tip included) for chicken/cornbread + 2 sides, it's a really good deal. Sure, the food didn't blow me away, but it filled me up (and so far, despite other reviewer's comments, I am feeling fine).
How you should make macaroni and cheese:
-Option #1: Make a cream sauce that consists of equal parts Colby Jack and Extra Sharp Cheddar. Mix the cream sauce with sauteed onions and garlic. Mix with whole grain fusilli or small shells. Top with buttered panko bread crumbs and bake in a buttered casserole in a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes.
-Option #2: Grab a box of Annie's, preferably in the green box, and go nuts!
-Option 3#: Any way EXCEPT for the way Texas Rotisserie & Grill makes it!
Why did I get the macaroni and cheese from there? Because all I had was a debit card and they have an $8 minimum. I needed to get SOMETHING. I figured it was a benign purchase.
*rawr*
Stupid minimums.
Even those who enjoy quote unquote "bad" mac & cheese (mushy noodles covered with Velveeta) would cry if they ate this. I ate it like a four year old being forced to eat lima beans against their will: mouth agape, chewing slowly with a truly pained expression on my face. It was so bad that I went to a meeting at work directly afterwards and whined about how bad it was. No shame. (Amazingly, I actually garnered some sympathy. Just what I was looking for…!)
Their turkey burger? Passable. My friend's pulled pork sandwich? Perhaps the option I SHOULD have gone with, in hindsight. She enjoyed it…well, until she got sick later that evening, but, I digress. If I ever have the stomach to go there again, perhaps I'll purchase that…MAYBE.
And no discount for NY-Pres. employees, despite the fact that every patron I saw in there was wearing an NY-Pres. ID Badge?
Dude.
DUDE.
My word, this place has traumatized me. If the service was slow (it wasn't), this place would have received one star. I can't believe how generous I'm being! *phew*
