2.5 stars. Lisa R., our significant others and I stopped by this TGIFridays on our way back to Queens. As her review states, the hostess was very strange. He greeted us in an odd way…I almost want to describe it as being spaced out? maybe high? who knows. He made an extremely rude comment to a boy maybe 11 walking out of the restaurant with his family who had leg braces. "Your too young to be walking with those sticks! What are you doing with them? That's so funny" and the kid just looked at him. What kind of people are you hiring that they can't comprehend that situation? Idk. Moving on. The negative reviews almost made us just go to the diner- but surprisingly we did enjoy our food. Everything was on point and on par with what Friday's is besides one forgotten appetizer (that was quickly fixed) the temperature was off…a blast of freezing cold air followed by heat and back to cold again made for an unpleasant experience. The place was pretty empty, so maybe the rest of the reviews are more accurate for busy times- wasn't necessarily true for our visit.
"Just know what to expect"
Came here more as a joke than serious dining/drinking. Who likes going to chain restaurants in NYC?The place was somewhat empty on a friday night but for some reason the service was kind of a struggle. The main bartender kind of gave a bit of an attitude when I asked for a modification to one of my beverages. I will say that the bbq chicken flatbread was pretty tasty and low on calories… Compared to the rest of the things on the menu.
Come here for a a quick drink and keep it moving.
Friday's was always favorite chain restaurant when I lived in other States. Since I've lived here a long time I have to agree it is now two stars at most.
The first real turning point for me was the time I ordered an ice cream dish for desert and was given a fork. I couldn't get the waiters attention to get a spoon. It was hard eating it with a fork. When I told him finally, he responded so ignorant I was amazed.
The next visit I got the same desert and by the time I got it it was melted. Very disappointing.
I tried to go at lunchtime one day because it was more in line with my out of work budget. They charged extra for everything. It's almost like they were asking "would you like a place setting with that or eat off the table." Only kidding.
To sum up my last few visits to this Friday's or any other one in the city, I don't go any more. I do still crave the Oreo cookie desert. I may just go in for desert only and see if it comes frozen and with a spoon!
I think one has to manage expectations when they go to a chain restaurant. There are pros and cons for sure. I actually ended up here on a weeknight after I got out of work on my birthday. My best friend and I came here, partly for old time's sake (long story) and partly because we wanted hearty food in a very casual setting.
You go upstairs to reach the level of the restaurant. It's really huge and has a bar at one end. There were balloons floating around when I was there. It was pretty empty, but we didn't care. We sat down and perused the extensive menu. We got the appetizer platter.
1. Mango peach and Strawberry lemonade slushy: These were really good and come with free refills, but I could not have any more after 2 glasses because of the sugar.
2. Three combo sampler: Loaded potato skins (fine), buffalo sriracha boneless wings (quite good), fried green beans (THE BOMB!!). Seriously, the green beans are probably one of the best items here.
3. Smoked house burger with fries: This was really good. Sometimes the simplest things, even if not the most creative, are what you need. It was really well done.
4. Rib-eye steak with half rack of ribs with sweet potato fries and mashed potatoes: My god this was so good. It was hearty, well cooked, and relatively cheap.
5. Oreo ice cream cake: How could this be bad? Well, it wasn't. It was pretty darn good.
Everything was well-priced and decently portioned. We actually had amazing service. We loved our servers, and they sang for me and took photos with us. HIlarious. A good time for all.
Came here with a friend for an impromptu lunch. It's a chain, and it's easily accessible. I've had better, I've had worse. Nothing to write home about. Just your basics.
you are in the greatest city ever, and you are choosing to dine at Fridays???
stay there, eat their overpriced disgusting excuse of a menu, and get it all with your awful service and extremely loud cramped atmosphere, that's where you belong.
I came here over the summer out of desperation. I kept saying I'd write a review, I'll write a review (mentally) and of course never got around to it. It's TGI Friday's. But this needs a review. I stepped inside because I was working in the day at the Brew Zoo Beer event in Central Park and had a two hour break before attending the actual event. Food and libations were needed after sweating and lifting heavy tables all day.
TGI Friday's is mad crowded on a friday. It doesn't matter what time of day. I think it was like 3-4pm. Anywho, I wanted to get my drink on and started with a cheap glass of wine. It's the way to go because after I switched to a cocktail I regretted it for the rest of the day. They advertised discounted martinis – which is straight well cheap vodka or gin in a martini glass with a lemon twist. Or in this particular case dish soap. We actually asked the waiters if they could pour grenadine into it it tasted so bad. Getting the attention of the bartenders was also a huge hassle. Even when it quieted down and emptied out within the hour we spent here, no one would pay any attention to us.
The redeeming qualities however in which this turns this from a one star review to a two star review are those mozzarella sticks and boneless buffalo wings. Those are banging. Cheap and probably pre-frozen. But still delicious as hell cheap horrible for you bar food.
