  1. As Thai food food and sushi have surpassed Chinese food in popularity, many Chinese restaurants have reinvented themselves as "Asian fusion", Thai or Chinese + sushi. On my only visit here, I thought the cooks were unlikely to be Thai, as my dishes–Thai chicken in lettuce and yellow curry did not taste like Thai food, but like Chinese food.  They were not bad, but bland–although the veggies were nice and crisp.

The menu's inclusion of Vietnamese summer rolls, Indonesian sambal and General Tso's chicken and sesame chicken is not something I have seen Thai restaurants run by Thais do.

In fairness, everyone else liked their dishes more; portions were generous; prices are reasonable; brown rice is very good; menu is lengthy; staff is nice; and it is BYO.

Perhaps I was just unlucky in my choices, but in this area that never happened at Thai Passion in Chatham; Siam Inn in Cranford or Splash of Thai in Westfield.

  2. Terrific local Thai place in a sort of hard-to-find location behind Tinga. The food is always delicious and attractively presented. My go-to starter is the crispy duck salad with mango and pineapple on lightly dressed mixed greens. Off the chain good. That duck is addictive stuff. The chicken satay is good if not great.

I love the spicy basil chicken. It's not overly spicy but has a nice warmth. The vegetables are all super fresh and not overcooked. The brown rice here is superb, perfectly cooked and nutty. The massaman curry is also good here, as are the other yellow curries. Pad Thai was merely acceptable.

Service is polite and it is BYO. A bold red is always nice with this food. Try it!

  3. Green Curry was not bad here. not many good asian restaurants in Millburn so I would say this is pretty good

  4. Not too bad. Summer rolls came with an oily dipping sauce, that reformed when refrigerated and tasted good, but not when the whole first layer was oil. Pad see ew was pretty good. Not the most saucy and flavorful ever, but not oily–which is a blessing for Asian noodles in Millburn! I don't think bf liked his chicken pad thai too much as he made a snarky comment about ordering here again, but he agreed that at least it wasn't oily.

  5. This town has two Thai restaurants and both are so-so.  Sure, you'll get your pad thai fix on but why can't they up their games a bit?  One would think in a small town like Millburn with two Thai places, at least one of them would be like "this town ain't big enough for the two of us" and starting producing better food.  They should be dueling in the kitchens and whipping out authentic Thai food, like the Wondee Siam restaurants in Hell's Kitchen (Manhattan).

I've had then twice now and nothing horrible but nothing that gets me excited to come back.  If you're gonna go, stay with the basics and go during lunch.  The lunch specials, given the price point, is a good way to get your Thai on.

  6. I had a delicious meal here on a Wednesday night. When I arrived around 6:30 the place was empty so I was able to get the attention of the staff easily. They were friendly and I had no complaints with service. The decor is pretty standard as well of what you expect on a thai restaurants.

I was bit surprised when I found out the staff weren't actually Thai as they spoke Mandarin but the food I had was still pretty good. So while they're not really authentic thai food at least they make what they make well 🙂

The Tamarind Duck I had was really good as far as the duck goes. It was really juicy and fat and roasted really well. The veggies sort of complements the meat well but honestly it was the duck that was the star of the meal. The side of brown rice I had was pretty standard. Portion wise was also good no complaints there.

Price was bit higher than what I would expect but I suppose that was the reason for the nice decor since its a more upscale restaurant. I most likely won't have a chance to come here again unless have a reason to visit the area but the meal was definitely a good one and its worth a try

  7. Popped in after a movie this weekend and my love affair with Thai House was renewed.  Pleasant staff and a nicely decorated restaurant located close to Millburn Train Station and the center of town.  Ample parking located close by.  The food is really great.  Every time I come in the food is just right.  They will make it Thai spicy if you ask.  We started with a Roti Canai.  The roti was hot crisp and soft all at the same time and the curry dipping sauce is so good I could drink it.  I had the drunken noodles with shrimp which is akin to a chow fun dish in Chinese food only better.  The vegetables and sauce make the dish.  Asparagus and mushrooms were uber fresh and the sauce was spot on.  My wife had the chicken in green curry and loved that as well.  Prices are fair as well. We had an appetizer and two entrees for $38 with tax and tip.  Please patronize this local gem.  You won't be sad that you did.
