Thai Palace

“The rolls are chock full of real crabmeat and the curry puffs are light and tasty especially when dipped in the vinegar of the cucumber salad.”

“We ordered a nice variety to get a good feel: Wife had the Papaya salad and the sticky rice–it has since become her newest obsession!”

“As an appetizer I ordered the Sea Rolls which are essentially egg rolls stuffed with shrimp and crab meat.”

  1. I came here for lunch with some colleagues. The decor isn't great. The restaurant was really cold inside actually and a bit dark.

I had the vegetarian green curry lunch special with brown rice and tofu soup (they let me replace the salad with the soup instead for $2 extra on top of the $8.95 about for the green curry).

The tofu soup was good. It was a nice big size and very warm, which I needed on a cold winter's day. It had huge chunks of tofu, carrots, celery, and some other vegetables as well as clear noodles in it.

I got the green curry in hot (they have mild, medium, or hot) and usually I can withstand the heat. Nope. Not this time. I lost. The heat was so much. I must've drank over 5 glasses of water. It was good until I got like a ball of pepper in my mouth.

I may have to stick to medium next time if I get to come back.

All in all, it was a decent spot. The wait staff is super friendly and on top of the water, which is nice. That's always appreciated.

  2. My family went here for a birthday dinner upon the Record newspaper's favorable review. Thai Palace has great Thai food for moderate prices in a low key dining room, yet the restaurant has one significant problem: service.

All of our servers were perfectly delightful and polite, yet the manner in which we received our meal was a mess. The entrees came out in waves and my sister's dish didn't come out until the rest of the table was already done eating our meals!  I do not know whether the dining room was under staffed or if the kitchen could not produce quick enough for a Saturday night, but this was a problem.

Otherwise, we really enjoyed the restaurant and hope it improves. This restaurant has a lot of potential if the kinks can be worked out.

  3. Pretty good Thai Spot. The restaurant is in a strange location, but they are the only Thai spot in the that stretch. The restaurant is dimly lit and a little dingy looking, but the food is good and the prices are reasonable. Service was friendly.

I had the drunken noodles, extra spicy. They were spicy, but nothing I couldn't handle. When the waitress asked if it was too spicy, I said it wasn't spicy enough! She said she didn't know about my level of spicy and she got me next time.

  4. Thai Palace is a very unassuming restaurant and you can tell the locals have a lot of love for it because of this. I stopped by with coworkers on a Friday night and the place slowly filled up around us. The waiters were all pretty busy bouncing around the tables and dealing with to-go orders, but through it all, they maintained a great cheerful attitude.

The place itself is fairly small and decorated with sculptures, wall hangings, and garlands everywhere. I'm not sure if they've just forgotten to take their Christmas decorations down or if it's normally like this, but it was definitely interesting to look at!

I got the chicken kra tiem (garlic) which I thought was great, but was confused by the copious amounts of broccoli. I also tried the pineapple fried rice, pad thai, and some tofu drunken noodles. The tofu was really delicious and crispy on the edges for a great texture. The fried rice and pad thai were both good, but not mind-blowingly so. The serving sizes for the fried rice and the pad thai were humongous, and both of my coworkers had to box at least half of the dish to go.

    BYOB if you want!

  5. The drunken noodle…lawd!

Let me tell you, I've been loyal to another Thai restaurant in the area for many years. And I still am (sorta-kinda), But I find myself 'cheating' on the regular for Thai Palace.

This is a mom and pop shop. There's only one waitress — the same waitress you'll see every time you go there. This can affect your service. She's the best, but if it's busy, be prepared to wait a while. But the wait is worth it. Nana and pops are in the kitchen chef-ing up life everlasting. I can vouch for the tofu drunken noodle and eggplant basil entrees. AMAZING.

Spice levels: it's real here folks. I have very high tolerance for spice, but here, I have to downgrade to a medium.

Parking:  limited street parking on Degraw. Better options on side streets.

  6. NEW LOCATION: RIDGEFIELD PARK

Its just as good as it was. I like the location..parking in a lot across the street. Drunken noodles and basil a must try. They never disappoint. BYOB!

  7. Had a days old drunken noodles. Still good. Decent Thai place in this small town.

Would go again if craving Thai.

  8. This place was a tad disappointing. Got the entree Beef Massaman curry which felt like I was eating beef jerky cause it was that tough to chew!

The mango sticky rice was sad also with the tiny portion. It doesn't live up to the price.

The chicken puff was ok. Nothing else to do about this place besides I wouldn't come back again.
