aw, man… y'all are dropping the ball…
I order from here constantly and I've come to realize the appetizers are honestly just slacking in a really big way. I'm left disappointed every time. I've order the pork buns roughly five times. The first time was absolutely slamming and I fell in love but they've gotten consistently less good as I've ordered them. The pork is too dry or the buns are completely stale… It's always something…
I ordered the garden rolls today and that's what inspired this review. It was literally a wad of lettuce wrapped in rice paper with a tiiiiiiiiny bit of carrot and an undetectable amount of what I assume to be cucumbers. There was so little I literally couldn't figure out what it was, aside from being deep green in color. I'm not over-exaggerating.
I'm really disappointed. This place was my jam and the more I explore the menu, the more I'm let down. Pooouuutttttt…
If you know my profile, Thai food is one of my favorite foods to eat. Ive passed by this place many times. This opened just the past year. Place isnt the biggest, but big enough to fill the emptiest stomach! The place is nice and homey! Very clean and organized!
Had my usual thai chicken sticks with peanut sauce. Then I ordered my usual chicken pad thai dish (mild spice). Just the way a pad thai should taste. Had our usual thai iced tea. Im definitely a fan, and would swing by the place again next time I visit my parents!
I'm on the fence about this being a 3 star review. It's so close to 4 stars, but I rather round down than build expectations.
There was 3 of us and we walked in around 9:30. Realizing the front door says they close at 10 we felt bad. They had no problem with seating us so we took it.
We had reviewed the menu before coming so we were pretty much ready to order immediately. My buddy got the Shangri La crab appetizer….. For 8 bucks I think it was a little small. The bigger problem was that the fried crab bites were inconsistent. Some bites had a huge piece of crab some just seemed to have cream cheese no crab. My buddy got this for himself so he didn't really complain. If we were sharing it that would be lame to miss all the crab pieces. He also ordered the Pad Thai.
I ordered the Drunken Noodles with pork and my girlfriend got the Pad-Z-U with veg.
My buddy and I both ordered our plates extra spicy, but they were just spicy. I'm really having trouble recently finding a place that will balance good FLAVOR AND PLENTY OF SPICE. The flavor on the noodles was really good BUT we all agreed we needed more. Each noodle dish was $11 and none of us were really full.
I'm gonna have to look in to maybe lunch specials here. The amount of food was definitely more along the lines of what I have for lunch but the prices is more dinner.
Delicious Thai food located in an unassuming little strip mall. The restaurant is pretty spacious. Service is always very good. They have great lunch specials too!!
Shangri-La is the first Thai place in the area that has sated my desire for good chicken ka prow. It's not the best I've ever had, but it was definitely good, & worth coming back for. Though the place looks unassuming & even a little crappy – it's located in a tiny strip mall – it's very nice inside, bordering on fancy, & the menu selection is broad & varied. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend checking out Shangri-La over, say, Bangkok House or Siam Garden over in Red Bank, where I live. It's worth the drive!
When it comes to flavor, nothing beats Thai food. That's why I googled & yelped for hours looking for a local Thai restaurant and lo & behold- Thai Shangri La! You'll find it in a small shopping complex with a huge sign saying Thai Restaurant at the top.
The place is VERY decorative, with lots of traditional Thai decor and photos of royalty. Cozy and small, but smells like heaven. The first time I came here, I had the pineapple fried rice & my boyfriend had the Drunken Noodles. It was absolfreakinglutely delicious! So spicy (we got the very spicy option) but it was soo good. We were too stuffed to get dessert but eh. I went again with my dad and brother and I got the Pad Z U, which was also good. This place has the cheapest Pad Z U (pad ce/see ew) too, at $8.95, and with a good portion. My dad got the massaman curry and my brother got the pineapple fried rice with shrimp. They loved their dish! The third time I went, I got the chicken satay (YUM) and the Panang curry with chicken (OMG YUM). I'm still craving some now!
One thing I love is the desserts! Portions are big. I got the mango with sticky rice & then the fried ice cream (vanilla) and I have got to say that they were the biggest dessert portions ever. Soo satisfying!
In addition to all this, service was great! The waitresses are all nice & sociable and the one host I saw was nice too! Love this place, and seeing how I've been here 3 times in 3 weeks, there will be lots more Thai Shangri La lovin.
