Came her later on a Saturday night with my GF and her grandmother. The grandmother is a regular and very much treated like royalty, the waiters were so sweet to her. We had a lovely meal, started with the chicken meatballs and then rolling into our main courses. I got the papparadelle bolognese. It's kind of my go to when I come here and it didn't disappoint. We ended the evening with some caramel flan … it was delectable. I've had some pretty amazing flan from Cuba, and I think this was just a notch or two below that. I was very pleased with the evening.
I think the only complaint was that it was a bit chilly in the restaurant due to the fact that it was in the mid-80s that day so they probably had the AC jacked up.
I'm sure we'll be coming back again next trip up!
I'm a total sucker for restaurants adorning their door fronts with 'Christmas' lights- even after Christmas. In my opinion, there's a sense of flair that whispers to me. Additionally, the 'Christmas' white lights, added an extra touch of sophistication. This tiny, quasi-chic, dimly lit, bistro with metal ceilings, is appealing.
808 Bistro is totally charming with great ambience and service. Vibe here, is upbeat, nowhere near uptight. The setting can be anything you want it to be. It could be a girl's night out, a small family get-together or a romantic dinner. So, the restaurant's theme interior design, is not creative, but, 808 highly makes up for it in their dishes. Restaurant Week menu, surely did not skimp. There were lots to choose from in all 3 components(Appetizers, Entrées & Dessert). And not your typical, limited choices some restaurants offer.
From the hostess, to our server (Annemarie), to the chef, all contributed a positive atmosphere and energy. Chef/Owner, Sal, takes the lead in 808 Bistro and brings a really nice, extensive menu. Perhaps I'm too quick to decide, but because my Lamb Chops were seasoned and cooked to perfection, right then and there, I just imagined what their other lamb or fish dishes would taste like. I was immediately hooked!
My overall impression was that 808 made my evening memorable. And my only regret is, that I have not been here sooner.
The service at this restaurant was outstanding! We arrived at a not-so-busy time (2:30 PM on a Sunday) so were seated immediately. The waiter was devoted exclusively to serving us, and he did an amazing job. He took our orders at a proper time, and even dealt with one of the picky eaters in our group by creating a custom salad for her. Since the new salad had no assigned dressing, he brought out a small sample of each house-made dressing so she could pick which to go with her salad.
The food was good too, though a tad expensive in my opinion (about $15-20 a dish). Out of all the dishes I tried, my favorite was the grilled calamari appetizer that came on top of a small bed of greens and tomatoes. The slice of steak I tried was flavorful – a bit heavy on the vinegar side but I actually liked that better than the raw meat taste of normal steaks. 808's vegetables could use a remake – they were a bit overcooked and soggy. The grilled chicken was decent, though nothing to boast about and a bit burnt. It was a decent sized portion though, and kept me full the rest of the afternoon/evening. If you're not too hungry, the scallops I heard are good as well, but served with only three, I would rather pick something a bit more filling.
Finally, the ambiance of the restaurant is nice as well. We were seated near the window so it was a little crowded for a party of 8 to squeeze into the seats on the side of the wall but other than that, I liked the overall feel of the restaurant. A positive experience, in my opinion!
